There's a place in Bowser's Kingdom (up a vine to a bonus area) where you can get 200/m pretty easily. Otherwise you can run the NDC Festival over and over again and get like 150/m while jamming out and actually playing the game.

Also the final post-game level unlocked at 500 moons apparently gives you a ton of coins.

The Nintengoons Discord has a channel for Super Mario Odyssey!

Don't have a Nintendo Switch? There's a bundle that'll be released with the Switch, Odyssey, and special red Joycons!

Of Course There's Amiibo:

Teenage Fansub posted:

Please put this in the OP.

-----

Super Mario Odyssey is the latest 3D platformer in the Super Mario series, launching on the Nintendo Switch. Odyssey is a return to the open-world platform format of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, where you explore large levels for key items until you get what you need to progress (or you get them all like a total boss). The collectibles this time are moons, and it sounds like there are a much higher amount of them than the Stars/Shines of Marios past.

The big new mechanic involves Mario throwing his sentient hat at enemies to possess them, opening up new methods of exploration and interacting with the environment, whether as a Goomba Tower, a Bullet Bill, or a freaking dinosaur. Of course, Mario still has his signature platforming moves like the wall jump and triple jump. In addition, you can finally dress Mario up in various outfits from his incredibly versatile career. There's also a Galaxy-style co-op mode where one player controls Mario's hat.

The plot involves Bowser kidnapping and attempting to marry Princess Peach, possibly for tax purposes. Mario chooses to resign as a plumber because he's making good money rescuing Princess Peach full-time thanks to Patreon, and this time he has the help of Cappy, a sentient cap with demonic mind-control powers. Mario manipulates these powers to conquer the minds of his opponents, and to take control of the titular Odyssey, a ship powered by collectible moons and possibly TF2 hats. Also Cappy has a sister who is a sentient tiara that Peach happens to be wearing. Also also Pauline from the original Donkey Kong is back as the mayor of New Donk City, so part of the plot might be Mario reconnecting with all his ex-girlfriends before finally tying the knot with Peach and/or Bowser. It'll still be only the second-most-ridiculous Mario plot to come out this year.

Other Tidbits:

* Apparently there are nearly as many moons to find in Super Mario Odyssey as there are Korok Seeds in Breath of the Wild. Keep in mind there are 900 Korok Seeds in BotW...
* No more lives system! Instead death merely costs you 10 coins, which means you have to wait a little longer to buy Mario's tribal tattoo. So dying actually means something.
* There's an in-depth picture mode where you can freeze time and do all sorts of manipulations so you can take the perfect picture of Mario sniffing a Goomba's butt.
* It's freaking Mario

I don't really see the point of motion controls when there's enough buttons to do the moves on the controller. They don't really add anything to the experience, unlike aiming in BotW/Splatoon. They're just additional input commands for moves that can be a hindrance to those playing on handheld or who have disabilities, and even outside that they're not really precise enough to be reliable. Galaxy's shake-to-spin was fine, but the motion controls in Odyssey really have no reason to exist.

No major issues with the camera, though. I mean it's a little wonky but honestly that's true for every other Mario game and pretty much every game with a camera. A couple minor annoyances at the start but otherwise it's a standard 3D platformer camera.

I kinda expect the biggest point of contention about Mario Odyssey in the long run being about how the game is barely focused on actual mechanical platforming execution and almost entirely about reading the level, knowing your tools and utilizing observation and problem solving. That's probably it. I prefer the mechanical platforming style myself, but Odyssey's still been enjoyable enough for me. Don't know if it'd be my favorite Mario game, but I definitely don't regret the time I spent playing it.
