this may have been asked befoere, but are there reasonable options for ergonomic kbs with mech switches? i got a new job that pays peanuts but theyre offering to order me supplies so i want to take advantage of that. i find that i like the ergos because my wrists stopped making popping noises after i started using them

so since i got a das keybaord at home ive become acutely aware that my keyboard at work is 1) disgusting and 2) so loving old there are marks gouged into the spacebar from the corner of my thumbnail (I think???) and all the key caps are worn smooth and horrid to type on. plus its a crap HP piece of poo poo in the first place.

but if i get a noisy mechanical keyboard my colleagues will kill me, im thinking some MX reds or something? when I tried them out I didn't think they were that much quieter than the browns in my one at home though

edit: all the ones i can find on amazon or whatever are idiot backlit gamer bullshit

get a dads keyboard instead

srs post had lots of rsi problems in my late 20s. figured it couldn't hurt to try the stuff hr kept recommending in email blasts about ergonomics and fixing my posture and arm positioning helped a lot. good enough for now anyway but i'm only mid 30s. we'll see in 10 years

after like 2 years my wasd doubleshot pbt mx clear baord is giving me a consistently smooth buttery fingerfeel with a satisfying but not too loud clickity clack and it still looks brand new when i clean the goop off

are any of the "quiet" mechanical switches actually quiet? I have a das keyboard with (iirc) the quiet red/brown switches and I am informed that it is still loud as gently caress and "I can hear you in the next room through a closed door oh god stop clacking please" so getting that at work is going to be a no no, but it's so much nicer to type on than the poo poo membrane one I had or the low travel scissor one I pinched off an unused desk.

the das keyboard has nice knob feel on the volume control fyi, I really like it. it's also more than heavy enough to be used as a weapon.

i would like to know this too

It's not a chording or steno layout, just uses two separate layer switch keys and a 'mod-tap' home row:

If a key has a front legend, then that's the shift/modifier it turns into if you hold it for more than 200ms. A tap shorter than 200ms outputs the top legend. The thumb keys two different layer switches when held (green and purple here); holding both on one side gives a third layer (yellow). The home row keys act as shift/ctrl/alt/cmd when held for 200ms.
