I think all the different sizes would make that incredibly fiddly to try and do.

If there was any way I could assist in having the SA emotes tagged in a way that you can search for them via the keyboard you let me know immediately.

That's not a terrible idea from a security standpoint, if we anticipate that multiple SA users will be sharing a device.

I think that's a bad assumption in today's world though, so I think having a separate action to clear the cache makes sense from a UX perspective as well as security.

Doesn't this clear if you reinstall the app or something? I thought there was a fix but tbh I don't use it

I finally straight-up removed the smilie keyboard this week. It’s unusable. Wish it would be functional, but it’s been in this state for years for me so

The smiles are long, long overdue for a re-sorting anyway. I've been tempted to go full nerd, manually sort them, and pm a sheet to the mods for everything. Adding tags in a binding of Isaac style system where you can use general color/shape/object tags to search stuff down would be cool too.

For those that don't know, Binding of Isaac is a roguelike twin stick shooter with an incredibly huge list of unlockable items; the best website for cataloging them all is: https://platinumgod.co.uk/repentance.
The search field can use even basic terms like "red", "tooth", "face", etc. to help narrow down the one you're trying to get ability info on, as the game itself only gives you a sentence on pickup that may not explain much, and the pause menu doesn't tell you anything either.

That kind of thing would be cool. Metadata behind the smilies would help! I can never remember the SA smilie tag names. I want the red smilie shaking his fist :grr:? No. the high five one? :highfive: no

The actual forums should delete a lot of them. There’s still four vanity smilies based on the avatar of the dude who is now in prison for child porn

To add a smilie, goons have to pony up USD $30. If they started getting deleted, customers would (rightly) lose their poo poo.

The official SA Smilies page does actually include a number of tags/keywords for each emoticon, and the full list can be filtered by typing into the the helpfully-named Filter field. The tags are present in each smilie element's title attribute, so you can see those tags on a computer browser by mousing over a smilie and waiting for its tooltip to reveal them, or on an iPhone by pressing-and-holding the smilie and viewing the keywords above the contextual popup items. For example, here's :getin::

I've entirely given up on Awful app's emoticon keyboard and exclusively use my SA Smilies page bookmark for finding the emoticon I actually want -- but it would be fantastic if Awful app's picker just provided a cached skin of that page and its filtration functionality! ( maybe even without the smilie duplication bug??)

I'm seeing a bug lately that seems to be specific to the iPad version, in which certain threads (notably though possibly coincidentally all among the most recent threads I've bookmarked) seem to be getting stuck in the no-new-posts section of my bookmarks when sort unread bookmarks first is turned on, and also don't correctly show the unread post count (although they do correctly display the last poster). If I turn off sort unread bookmarks first, the threads will sort to the correct place in that order but still with the unread post count incorrect, so I guess somethings dodgy with the sort unread bookmarks code? Maybe?

E: If someone posts in such a thread and I refresh the iPad bookmarks list with sort unread bookmarks first turned off, the post count will update and if I then then sort unread bookmarks first back on the thread will be sorted correctly.

E:E: uh

This is a new one.

This is an old bug but it seems to still be around. Threads aren't consistently sorting by unread in Bookmarks (sometimes they do, sometimes they don't), and sometimes display with the wrong new post count. Only happens on iPad. Reinstalling fixes it but then it happens again. Is this still on the radar? It kinda defeats the point of sorting bookmarks by unread because I have to check every time if it's missed a thread... or cross check against the iPhone version. Must stress again that in three years I only see this happen on iPad.

This happens on MacOS as well (which is basically the iPad version on the desktop). I noticed it happens if I leave the app open for long periods of time. I’m betting there’s some counter or tracker that goes off the rails the longer the app is open. On iPhone it probably gets out-of-memoried pretty quickly, but iPads (and Macs) have more RAM and ergo it’s probably still resident in memory for a longer period of time.

My workaround has been to quit awful.app on the Mac, wait a minute, then relaunch it, then the counters and sorting are magically working again.

(I’ve also been quitting it when not using it because it lets animated avatars loop constantly when not in focus and it’s shockingly CPU hungry)

A couple of years ago there was a qcs thread where several volunteers went through the smilies and added those description tags in a bandaid solution. We were limited by the total length of tags we could use and so there are a lot of useful words that don't help in the current implementation. But it's better than what was there before summer 2020.

Having a problem getting forum specific themes to work. When I go into the tab for per-forum themes I can set it up however I want, but it doesn’t make any difference. The only setting that changes the themes is changing either the default light mode or default dark mode themes, which then apply to all forums. Does anyone know what the issue might be?

Not the end of the world but I’d like my byob threads to have the look that reminds me to be chill without every thread being that way

E: on further investigation, it appears to just be CCCC that doesn’t show in the BYOB theme, although it does when accessed on a PC.
