why did it take apple like 2 years to allow airtags to be shared

i understand these things involve a lot of clever cryptography but ffs for a 2 trillion dollar company apple sure moves slow sometimes

I think they just don’t understand the concept of shared property. it also took them a year to add multiple users for homepods. and the lack of multiple accounts for ipads. company full of narcissists

it's not that, it's that you can't turn them off for ones you've specifically ok'd but don't own

seems about the same to me, but i haven't noticed many problems with them recently. the whole thing feels more responsive though and maybe that's part of why, pardon the pun but i can't really put my finger on what's changed in that regard (i mean, maybe it's just faster)

e: i honestly have not been following os update news recently but maybe they're finally doing a snow leopard-esque cleanup release with this

there is only owner and admin. admins can't do everything owners can (removing/re-adding/adding devices).

they release security updates for older devices from time to time, usually when there's a major point revision for the os updates. the really bad vulnerabilities get fixes going back a few major full versions

whenever they leave a lot of devices behind with a new os, they’ll support the previous os with updates for a few years.

they were still patching iOS 12 (released in 2018) as late as January this year.

welp. i've installed ios 17, we'll see how it performs. they've done me a solid already by removing the app icons i have literally never used from above the keyboard in imessage.

touch targets and detection were so bad in ios 16 on my 12 mini that i was starting to wonder if i had lost significant manual dexterity in the last year. i don't seem to be having trouble anywhere else, so i'm going to blame my phone os for this

well i had similar problems with the earlier releases of 16, i'm not sure if i just got used to them or if it improved but i hope it's good. my mom has my old 12 mini so i'm sure if it's not i'll hear about it lol but she doesn't really use her phone much

I just mean it recognizes more than one voice ie it will add a reminder to the account of the person who asks for one. that functionality showed up a year late

If the button is the same size as the existing console, the new console isn't as girthy. It should be able to fit all sorts of places.
