I had completely written off getting a surface book until I realised literally every laptop other than that and macbooks are 16:9

don't get a surface book, that's the 2-in-1 which is very hard to find a sane use-case for. also don't get a surface laptop, as they hosed various things about it up, but if they get some future version right it will be a contender simply because they manage a good aspect ratio

ugh yeah, we have several of them in the company and they're the buggiest computers in the inventory. when they work people love them, but sometimes they just flake out and it's frustration all around.

the surface pro+dock is just a magical combination for random bullshit. every loving generation.

you'd think at some point they'd either figure out how to make it work without random ports failing or stop loving selling them, but nope, it's been same buggy rear end bullshit for five goddamn years

They should just make a normal gimmick free good laptop, as none of the oems have shown any capacity to do so reliably

I get why 16:9 1080p laptops initially became a thing in laptops and desktops, but I don't quite get why it has stubbornly stuck around despite nobody making televisions of in that size range anymore.

yes, that one. tbf i think apple was still selling imacs with 5400rpm drives at the time too, so in theory someone somewhere might have been dumb enough to buy one

I came across this error today. For some reason the new Windows 10 iso has large enough files it won't work on a Fat32 volume, which is still the general use volume for a boot device for installing. Naturally this is causing problems.

I'm not sure if I should blame Apple for not just making Bootcamp create an exfat partition to begin with, or Microsoft for doing this.

how is it that siri is still so bad, anyway

siri is bad because siri was a potentially super useful product that has no upsell or enforced upgrade cycle, so apple puts no money into it

i mean that's not just apple, the google assistant is almost as bad, except google at least does keep adding features because they can use it to sell ads. they just never fix any major user-facing bugs like random capitalization because those don't make money.
