there's a lot of gratuitous differences between appkit and uikit like uicolor and nscolor being unrelated types that makes some cross-platform code needlessly annoying to write. while i don't think universal apps would be a very good idea, it would be nice if they unified the parts that aren't particularly platform-specific.

GenJoe posted:can you name an example that isn't UIColor/NSColor because everything else that I am trying to come up with is separated for a really good reason uiimage/nsimage and uifont/nsfont and the pile of associated classes the uiview/nsview family isn't a gratuitous difference per se, but the uikit version is basically appkit 2.0 rather than a platform difference textkit is basically just an improved api for existing appkit functionality

infernal machines posted:when it hits a certain point yes. that point is below the one where the throttling kicks in though the fact that the criteria for throttling and for displaying the notification that you should replace your battery are different is a bit of a problem, but it's basically just a bug resulting from two different teams working on mostly unrelated things not talking to each other enough and not some grand conspiracy to make you buy a new iphone

cis autodrag posted:The battery is only 79 bucks? So this whole thing was people who could afford a 1000 dollar phone whining that they didn't want to pay 80 dollars for a battery and therefore Apple should defy physics to extend their battery life without decreasing performance? Apple users are fuckin babies apparently. the problem is that people had to just magically know that the reason their phone was slow was because their battery was degraded. shorter battery life is an obvious symptom of a battery that needs to be replaced. slower performance even when plugged in is not, and there's nothing in the ui that indicates that it's happening

he compared ios 11.2 to 11.1 and for some reason concluded that any differences were due to the spectre mitigations. there were some much more significant changes between those versions, such as changes to the battery throttling on the device he was testing on. everyone else that compares 11.2.1 to 11.2.2 has seen no difference
