Of course Apple phones and laptops are increasingly becoming seamless orbs in the pursuit of thin-n-light, and the iMac Pro is kind of a special case since it's using an existing enclosure and no one really expects to be upgrading all-in ones, but if the 2018 Mac Pro is significantly user-upgradeable is the real bellwether for if Apple's plan is just to squeeze every last drop of blood from every stone forever

so it’s pretty ironic I’m now the Apple fan here for some reason

I think they expect me to slash my wrists whenever Apple fucks up in security or whatever, they’re always telling me about the news with smug faces and like “are you gonna cry because the batteries are bad?”

What was so great about the previous one then? I remember it being pretty frustrating and clumsy, I mostly watch youtube on my iPad in the kitchen and even that app is terrible.
The framerate in the menus is kinda janky but it is much easier to actually browse your subscriptions in this one.
The new playback controls are perfectly fine and disappear after a couple of seconds, or you can force them to go away with the back button right away.

The only thing I can find that feels worse than before is seeking to a specific time in a video since you can only skip forward or backwards in 10 second intervals.

you can't even rest your finger on the touchpad to see how much time has elapsed in the video. it's absolutely not easier to browse your subscriptions when they only show three loving videos

the old video at least acted like it was running on an apple tv 4k instead of a $100 tcl

iTunes was the last Mac first party application to go 64-bit (not counting the Xcode iOS simulator which had a legitimate need for it). for a while it was the only 32 bit app shipping with macOS. this was because they were depending on some carbon code in there and it just could not be fixed. when carbon was killed, they had to find a solution. obviously that solution was to statically link in their own carbon mini library to keep that code running.

I think they eventually managed to kill it since it is 64 bit these days but lol, those guys are terrible at software engineering.
