the apple tv 4k on an lg oled is extremely good and I won't be going to movie theaters anymore.

Friendly reminder to connect STB->AVR->TV if you have a surround sound system and want true audio passthrough. Until eARC gains traction as part of the new HDMI version, the ARC connection is just two channels and the TV has to do a lossy re-encode. (This doesn't apply to the Netflix app on LG OLEDs so you can still do TV->AVR if you don't have any set-top boxes)

The press release mentions RMSI, an India-based, geospatial data firm that creates vegetation and 3D building datasets. And the office’s large headcount (now near 5,000) suggests some sort of manual / labor-intensive process.

Could this be the source of Apple’s buildings?

It’s not as far-fetched as it sounds. If RMSI is creating Apple’s buildings by manually tracing them from satellite imagery, it would explain how Apple’s building perimeters could be more precise than Google’s algorithmically-generated buildings.

I assumed the ridiculous cost of the homepod was to cover the ridiculous cost of its r&d. they built multiple anechoic chambers to test the automatic room correction in that thing, I'd get a stereo pair if it wasn't apple walled garden exclusive

there's much cooler stuff you can do with dsp-enabled devices with multiple drivers (that you know the location, directivity and internal delay down to a nanosecond for every single one) as opposed to regular one-off calibration. fwiw the newer lines harman smart speakers also incorporate some of the nextgen poo poo for less (and the newest genelec monitors for more), but apple, not being a dedicated audio company, had to expand

the bloomberg article it’s based on is a graceful backhand, kudos to the writer

* Bloomberg, of course, is the publication that published “The Big Hack” in October — a sensational story alleging that data centers of Apple, Amazon, and dozens of other companies were compromised by China’s intelligence services. The story presented no confirmable evidence at all, was vehemently denied by all companies involved, has not been confirmed by a single other publication (despite much effort to do so), and has been largely discredited by one of Bloomberg’s own sources. By all appearances “The Big Hack” was complete bullshit. Yet Bloomberg has issued no correction or retraction, and seemingly hopes we’ll all just forget about it. I say we do not just forget about it. Bloomberg’s institutional credibility is severely damaged, and everything they publish should be treated with skepticism until they retract the story or provide evidence that it was true.

Probably, but I can't wait to play some cool indie poo poo on my Apple TV and PS4 controller, then pick up playing on my MacBook at work, maybe playing on the bus ride over.

Whether Apple ever gets the respect of neckbeard gaming puritans, I don't care. I'm totally convinced it's going to be an ecosystem that trounces Stadia and xCloud/Xbox, if not entirely by quantity of AAA titles, at least by artistic indie lineup, convenience and value for people already in the Apple ecosystem.
Uh, maybe search Game Pass? This sounds like you're trying to make far-reaching predictions without having all the information about the market, like what Apple is even copying with this model

I do agree that Stadia is doomed to fail and it would be hilarious if Google killed the project right as founders were about to receive their now useless controllers

bad designers would say "the users are stupid and are using it wrong." good designers shrug and say "okay, let's design with that behavior in mind."

I don't think that's what happened at Apple. If they could make the camera flush, they would. Possibly they falled rear end-backwards into the superior design solution but it def wasn't intentional
