I once filed a bug against iTunes for some similar issue and an iTunes engineer told me to log out and log back in again, which fixed my problem. I asked him why, since iTunes knew there was a problem, couldn’t it just do wherever it was logging out and back in again accomplished without making the user have to do it. naturally the response was a blank stare as if logging out and back in is a perfectly valid and normal thing that users are supposed to do and he couldn’t comprehend the concept of doing anything other than throwing out a mysterious error and making them struggle to figure it out.

iTunes is staffed by morons and is a flaming piece of poo poo. most Apple employees learn pretty quickly that filing bugs against iTunes is pointless because they never get fixed. they disappear into a void where you can’t see them and assigned to a robot and no one ever looks at them.

there are two ways to make a chip fast: high clock speed and bigger chip area.

power usage increases with the square of the frequency, so high frequency burns much more power and gets much hotter. but it’s “free” for chip makers in that there isn’t a per-unit cost.
bigger chip area can do more things in parallel but it costs more to make. they stay cooler and therefore run longer at that same performance level.

apple went all in on big area with relatively low clocks. they made a chip that is very expensive to make, and at the same power consumption as competitors it murders them in performance. they are paying for it in chip price, but they thought it was worth it. because of this design it can’t clock up much higher. so even with active cooling you can’t push it too far, although it will be able to maintain performance.

fun fact, it doesn’t support 32-bit ARM at all. even if iOS didn’t drop support for ARMv7, this chip couldn’t run those old apps.

the non poor version Apple Watch uses a sapphire display. the sapphire phone screens were scrapped because their manufacturer couldn’t scale their production. apple wouldn’t have committed that much money if they didn’t already test prototypes and verify that it works for them.

the UI element that shows what's currently playing is just weird to me, it morphs from an info bar thingy into a scrolling panel thingy. when you pull down on it the top edge gets pulled along with it like it's physically connected to the content, but it also has scrollbars that scroll content without that top edge moving. it's a mess

i feel like it wouldn't annoy me so much if it didn't always take a second to load whenever i wanted to skip a track within the app. i also find it a bit weird that you have to go into an overflow menu to 'love' a track, which also takes a second or two to load. the older ui was kind of cluttered but it seems like the kind of thing that should really be front and centre. then again i listen to a fair bit of music on my mac, and have a widget that lets you easily favourite the current song on itunes and last.fm at the same time, and the itunes recommendations are 90% stuff that i've already listened to, or just very very generic. so i guess they're just not surfacing a feature that doesn't really work well, rather than actually fixing it. the artist specific curated playlists are quite good though, i'd love more of those.

talking of features that don't really work right, how is connect still so bad? i forgot it even existed until i went actively hunting for it just now. the spotify 'show me what my facebook friends are listening to in a sidebar' concept isn't exactly a difficult idea to understand
