Soft modding (as far as I'm aware) means that all the modifications are done at a software level - there's no modification or addition to the hardware itself.

Wamdoodle posted:What was the whole thing about the Switch only having a limited number of updates? I swear that was discussed a while back. Was that already worked around? Nintendo selects when to burn a fuse and it probably has a shitload. The 360's Xenon had like, 192 or something. The Switch appears to be at 6 burned as of 5.0.0.

It's not quite as bad as Windows RT was in the W8 days where you were locked to only UWP apps: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/porting/apps-on-arm-x86-emulation I dunno how well it goes, but it's kinda neat anyway.

RandomFerret posted:Metal Gear Acid has never worked, unfortunately. I don't know what they did differently with that game but PPSSPP just cannot run it and probably never will since it's not popular enough to bother writing custom code for. Is this just a thing with Retroarch's fork of PPSSPP? Because I played Acid just fine through vanilla PC PPSSPP.

Is this an old requirement or do I need to go track down some used copy of a cheap card? It'd be for this bit I reckon: https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/user_guide/sysnand/launching_cfw/#launching-the-homebrew-menu

The funnier thing is that they never fixed it for the Wii U because lol They did push an update at some point but it didn't close the HB loophole, didn't fix the shop and all it did was add GDPR stuff

IIRC stuff gets saved to the HDD and all but you have to load the exploit each time (it can be cached though) you boot? Similar to older PSP exploits. You do need a Pro to get anything out of the Bloodborne mod though, yes.
