I think freedom of movement is about as theoretical as a growing middle class tbh. Yeah sure I agree with it, but its like saying its the right of every citizen to engage in politics. Like, yeah, its true on paper. But some people need the money from working on election day or w.e., and for example my DSA chapter is mostly urban professionals because they're the ones who can afford to have the free time to organize. Rights for everyone aren't actually for everyone if the use of it is restricted by available capital

Oh. Maybe it's just a bishopric then. Anyway the important part of the anecdote is that they owned a commonly used empty lot in my town, and eventually decided to fence it off and offer it for sale for $1 million. In an old lumber town.

But yeah the chinese debt fears really just prove that a lot of people have trouble understanding that despite huge amounts of foreign debt ownership, its still just a drop in the pacific ocean that is the federal treasury and the total economy

because unlike nerd poo poo like calenders or having a parliament with a lord protector versus a parliament with a king is lame and pointless, where as land lords are enemies of the people

Maybe it's brain damage from visiting friends ranches as a kid but tbh most livestock are about as smart as most cats and dogs. Except cows. They're loving stupid. And horses have personalities but are also very stupid. Anyway I guess I'm saying I wouldn't eat someone's pet but it wouldn't really bother me to eat a dog either. Probably not that tasty though. Now I might just be an ignorant city boy, but I've always thought that there's a slight ethical difference between slaughtering a bunny for food, which one would assume wouldn't take very long and hence not cause much unnecessary suffering (if done properly), and letting that bunny get torn apart by a dog, which one would assume would do that.

Rabbits are uh, flighty. They tend to die whenever they get chased enough. So usually they suffer cardiac arrest before the dog ever gets to them

With modern artificial intelligence I totally believe that computers can divide resources in a highly efficient way. The single objection I have is that socialist states are real, real bad at making consumer products. Tons of steel? Yes. Smartphones (the designs of which haven't been stolen from capitalist states)? No.

That's the big AI hurdle. We need to outsource all our consumer R&D to machine learning or some poo poo.

how many socialist states had their state research kickstarted by war criminals from nazi Germany though. iirc the Soviet union ended up with some but unlike the US they like, still sent them to trial

Larry Parrish

also yeah our consumer electronics are terrible cheap pieces of poo poo so i'd like to see what a real socialist state could put behind a smartphone they intend for you to use for 15 years instead of months

Literally every consumer 'innovation' that's not 'squeezed slightly more flash chips onto the same die' or other extremely incremental improvement was partially or fully funded by the government, dude. Cellphones, GUIs, the x86 and x64 chip processes, GPS, consumer satellite networks, fiber optics, microwave links, etc etc.

I don't think the current self-driving car stuff is publicly funded but it's also lovely and barely works and probably will never fully work

Ok. Well the historical fact was the vastly richer and more populated first world waged economic war and forced the less populated second world into an arms race, which meant excess production that in the West ended up as cheap PCs that let shitstains like Mitt Romney invent pirate takeovers due to ease of financial calculations, the East was forced to spend a lot more of its proportional industrial strength on military hardware and infrastructure expansion to support said military.
