I just realized that since Steve ditched his high school friends and got dumped by Nancy, the kids are his only friends now. I fully expect to see him playing Dungeons and Dragons next season.

I think in that conversation, they talked about him going off to college while she's still in Hawkins, strongly implying that he's older than her.
