Tim Storm seems really likable. Too bad he doesn't have a gas tank to go a long physical match like fans want to see.

i remember seeing tim storm and lance archer doing a goth gimmick at a dfw shindie when i was in high school

wrestling is weird ya'll.

35 is far too young to evaluate a wrestler's career. Not to echo Dylan Hales, but Dave should have raised the age threshold to 45 and 20 years after you started when he made the 50% rule.

5+ years in a shed by a pool in california? I wonder how many of those tapes are still salvageable.

vhs is pretty resilient in comparison to other formats. it’s in no way ideal, but from my experience (half a decade of being a moving image archivist with speciality in video cassette formats), it’ll be in a lot better shape than the colon archive wwe got, or the reported huge cmll arena archive that they had when Mexico banned Lucha on tv.

You can compare the Meltzer version to the Wreddit version for yourself. It wasn't independent research.

as someone who has had to sent corrections to dave many times over the years for dragon gate and owe things, this is one of his biggest failings. he doesn't personally verify everything in the newsletter and is willing to just print what he sees at face value.

Dave is going to address this on Sunday and he sounded like he realized he was wrong. But let's be straight here, he could say he's sorry and impose a suspension on himself of, I dunno, six months or whatever but really isn't the worst thing just that this is what everyone's going to say about him from now on? He's going to be Dave Meltzer the guy who beat up his wife printed unconfirmed rumors about DragonGate in his wrestling gossip newsletter. I mean think about it, isn't that the real punishment?

I said this in my thread, but I believe this raises enough doubt to question his coverage in Japan at least if not all the individual promotion sections.

Pretending that Dave publishes a gossip rag dismisses the entire field. Like or not, he publishes the paper of record in the industry. It has legitimate news and business figures.

I didn’t have any illusions about our reporting throughout this. But when you are covering explicitly one thing, however obscure or not, you are able to go deeper/know more people in that thing than a generalist like Dave or Wade Keller. Case and I are specialists and Dave stopped listening to the number one specialist (and probably two or three if you lump us in) in this segment of the field over a desire to do journalistic process here.

There is also probably something about basically getting a fashion of gaslit over the last seven months in that Dave’s influence and position completely overshadows any sort of contrary reporting. I don’t have all the answers for Dragongate stuff and I don’t pretend to, but it was incredibly frustrating being on the other end of this.

Bix was very fair in his article. The Voice Gate guys did a great write-up of what happened. They aren't clout chasers - Meltzer hosed up.

yeah from the start this whole story has been more trouble than point scoring could be lol I’m just a promotion-specific reporter that tends their little plot of earth telling the big farm that they shouldn’t trust that brand of hay and being ignored for seven months.

clearly some here people don’t get why band managers put peculiar and specific things on a tour rider.

Do podcasters get more money for ad reads they do in their own voice? I always assumed they would because it's harder to tell that it's a commercial and you might accidentally listen to 10 seconds of an ad before hitting the +30s button.

Yes the live read CPM rate is higher than automated for this reason.

Whatever system most podcast feeds use to automate ads is janky as gently caress in general. On most ad-supported shows I usually get ad breaks with 3-4 ads each except it’s usually 1 or both ads played twice, and every single ad break is the same ads anyway.

Once I got a Spanish language ad that sounded like it was recruitment for the military or the police or something. I am in the UK.

Some of this are the podcasters but a lot of it is the automated system. At least when Everything Elite was an ongoing concern, we told the system that we didn’t want any guns, politics or snake oil as the automation. Problem is that the system is also reliant on the advertisers to be honest and label the ads correctly. Then when you download the show the system tries to geolocate you with the IP of the download. We randomly once had western Canadian far right politicians in our show somehow and that pretty much led us to never use that system anymore and do away with those ads.
