The next logical step would be removing that flag. I wouldn't advise anyone to count on a Chromebook having any kind of graphics performance in Linux. Is Chrostini the in built Linux access? I was think about manual install dual boot, that's how I did it with the old Chromebook.

Jack B Nimble posted:Can anyone give me a rough idea of what sort of games an Acer Chromebook Plus 514 (or similar?) could run in Linux? I'm not sure about installing Linux games directly, but even on a compatible CB with Steam, you're still ultimately limited by the modest hardware (which largely means integrated graphics.) So I'd suggest looking for benchmarks on similar hardware, on Windows if necessary. So it looks like that CB has the 7520c, which is more or less the same as the 7520U, so you'd be looking at performance something like this albeit in the best-case scenario, on Windows (and few of those games tested I'd consider to be playable.) Is there some sort of magnetic case or mount I can put on my fridge to give me easier access in the kitchen? I guess you could put it in a regular case and put magnets (with adhesive if necessary) between the case and the CB?

Saw this Acer Chromebook Plus 514 for $249 at Costco this morning. This might be the best price/performance for a Chromebook yet?

If that was a 2-in-1 I'd probably snag it, since I think my dad could use a Chromebook. For a back-to-school device, though, where the classic laptop form factor is less of a hindrance, that looks like a good deal.

I just spent 15 minutes looking around and without a doubt probably the best deal out there in the US in terms of price and value.

Wish that deal was in Canada, I'd buy a Costco membership for it!

I've had it for several months now and have no real complaints. Solid little couch laptop for average Chromebook type tasks.

Looks fine for the price, especially new, at the moment (I.e. there are often deals on Woot such as those that I've posted recently, but often those are used/refurbished and are usually temporary.) I'd prefer more RAM though.

Yo, the Lenovo CB Plus 14 is as good as advertised. The display, performance, and battery life are all great. Keep an eye on Best Buy's used/"Geek Squad Refurbished" listings; I got mine for a little over $600 before tax and it arrived in like new condition.

My mom dumped water on her Chromebook and needs a new one for Facebook/Youtube. Any suggestions in maybe the 200ish range?

Here's an OK deal on a cheap convertible CB. Specs are decent, it has a touchscreen (as a convertible would require,) as well as a number pad, but the keyboard isn't backlit.

![]() So at some point, they finally added the 80% charge limit to the stable channel, after a long wait. It still requires hardware support, but if your Chromebook is capable, you can now enable this; it'll be helpful if you're either trying to maintain the long-term health of your battery or if you often work with the device plugged in for long periods of time.

I put postmarketOS on an old Lenovo ARM chromebook that stopped getting updates this year. It's fabulous!
