Today's email from Brad's Deals mentions a 14" Lenovo Chromebook for $179 with free shipping from Wal-Mart, 32GB of storage and 4GB of RAM, but I'm wondering about the MediaTek quad-core CPU. Any good? Any idea of what experience one could expect? https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lenovo-8...Black/206750547

Acer Chromebook 14 is on the Amazon Prime truck today for $199. Celeron N3160 Quad-Core & 4GB RAM. Jump on it? Or is that CPU underpowered? EDIT: I read your posts in this thread (Atomizer), seems like it'll be fine for my first CB. Just wish I could test it out for a day first. I get a text message, I click the link, and it brings me to an Amazon page with the locations the truck will be and times.

So far I mostly like it, though I wish it had a right-click so I could open in a new tab with one hand instead of Ctrl+click and the like. Is there a Windows emulator for Chrome OS? Something I can run a Windows desktop in for certain software. It just occurred to me that a Windows VM would be taxing on my storage...

If I want a ChromeBook that's either 13", or 14" with a narrow bezel, 1080p, and so far 4GB of RAM has been fine for me but 8 wouldn't hurt, what are some choices? Regardless of price points. I got an Acer CB14 a couple of months ago with an N3160, wouldn't mind a little more horsepower but it's been okay for $220 so far. Biggest thing I don't like is the wide bezel, it's like a 14" screen in a 15" chassis.

Don't mind me, I think I was conflating Pixelbook with Chromebook Pixel.

15" screen with a 768p resolution and a dual core CPU? No thanks.

Anyone able to mount a shared folder via Samba on their Chromebook? I keep getting "Error mounting share. Check the file share URL and try again." when entering the same path that works on my Windows laptop. It's a USB hard drive plugged into the USB port on the router, which is set to use SMB2.

Humerus posted:Best Buy has their Black Friday ad up and is actually selling a ton of stuff at BF prices* including the HP x360 Chromebook with 8GB RAM and i3 for $350 which seems like a hell of a deal. The white color is the only one advertised as BF price but the blueish one is also $350. I'm very tempted since something like the Asus C434 is still hundreds more. dbcooper posted:Best Buy's Black Friday Chromebook sales are up: Thank you both! Managed to order an open box one for a bit cheaper and picked it up yesterday. Haven't fired it up yet... asecondduck posted:[Edit: the following is only relevant if your Chromebook has a dual core processor that uses Hyperthreading to add two more virtual cores, such as the M3. Rhyno posted:The really nice ASUS C425 is down to $380 and has been as low as $320 this week. I bought one but it wouldn't retain a charge so I returned it and am pondering if I want to buy another. It's down to $330 right now, and even though I just spent about that much on an HP x360 I'm curious as to how the two compare.

Wish I could find one in a store to try out. It's almost a full pound lighter than this HP, and I'm guessing the m3 will keep things quieter than the i3.

I am so loving annoyed right now. All I want is to have YouTube playing in one tab while I browse in another. I start playing music from YouTube, then when I click over to the other tab, no more music. First tab reloads. I go back to the YouTube tab, it reloads. I've installed the extension "Disable automatic tab discarding 1.0.4" and tried with it enabled and disabled, no difference. Closed and reopened Chrome in between toggling this extension, nothing changes. This isn't a problem on my Windows laptops either, just on my Chromebook. What utter loving garbage. Edit: holy poo poo just tried the separate YouTube app, goes silent as soon as I minimize it. Trash. TITTIEKISSER69 fucked around with this message at 08:39 on Feb 9, 2020 |

My Chromebook died on me on the 1st (great start to the year), and I've had no luck with recovery. Seems like my old flash drive isn't cutting it. While dusting off old laptops to use in the interim, I got to wondering what's the appropriate method for converting them into Chromebooks?

Welp, spilled a cup of iced tea all over my Chromebook today. I did wipe it dry and tented it to dry out. It still turns on, but at the password screen typing the letter e pastes in a bunch of random characters, and typing the letter y reboots it. I'll take it to my office tomorrow and see if I can clean the insides with high % rubbing alcohol, but if it's beyond repair then so be it. What are some good choices with Black Friday sales this week? The dead one is a Lenovo Flex 5i 13 with an i3 (11th gen), 8GB RAM and 64GB storage, so something comparable with a 13 or 14 inch screen would be ideal. On Amazon I saw these two, open to feedback on either of them: Acer Asus

Honestly, I don't like touchscreens due to the glare, but I dealt with it on the Lenovo. As for graphics, I'm not a gamer so nothing more intensive than streaming Netflix or Prime.

It's just a daily driver web browser with occasional streaming or video chats. I do like having the horsepower and responsiveness of an i3 with 8GB, so I don't mind spending 300ish for it.

I pulled the trigger on the Asus. Just curious, are multi-core Celeron and Pentium options decent in the Chromebook world? Or is the maxim 'friends don't let friends buy Celerons' still in effect? Reason I ask is I saw this option and got curious about it: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Convertible-Touchscreen-Transparent-CX1400FKA-AS88F/dp/B0CRD2YLLC
