All the illegal, corrupt and authoritarian things about trump are the same things most republicans like about him, so politically I don’t see how we get to impeachment or the 25th in any case. I do think if the tax bill goes down, mainstream Rs will have the knives out for him, but actual republican voters don’t like that bill much so I don’t see that having bite. Writing checks from the US gov to Trump incorporated is more popular than any mainstream R policy position. Rs got and hold power by gaming the system and playing up white racial resentment. Trump has taken control of those rails so they got nothing to take power back from him. They are imagining a world in which mainstream R voters demand trump step down due to not being fiscally conservative enough and that is a fantasy more removed from reality than my wildest dreams about Kristen Bell.

Fitz is pure negligence. They literally were just standing on the port bridgewing bullshitting all night instead of looking around. They had a sub 700 yard CPA (closest point of approach) with a vessel and didn't loving notice. For any non-nautical people, 700 yards from a large ship is uncomfortably close and something that should never happen. The JSM was all on the skipper, XO, and SWO for not manning a nav detail. This was oversight that came from a good place albeit misguided. Not having a nav detail up when you pull into the SoM is colossally stupid and probably against standard navy wide orders/practice. This is a case of captain hubris and inexperienced watchstanders being placed into a role they shouldn't have been in the first place.

I believe they typically refer to the person as “President” at the first mention, though.
