This thread hasn’t honestly landed very far from that diagnosis, especially when it comes to talk of the Trump voter, here characterized as basically a defenseless, innocent kind of creature, genetically ill-equipped to inhabit an internet now fluoridated with fake news and “Russian propaganda”. Put side-by-side with the Democrat’s late-blooming admiration for Bush-era chauvinism patriotism and this thread’s moronic equivocation of American belligerence and “Russian imperialism”, it looks remarkably like the endpoint of this story is absolution for white Western society as a whole! After all, none of this is our fault.

Both the idea that Trump’s fascism is fundamentally distinct from the ordinary fascism of every prior U.S. politician, and the idea that Americans only mistakenly voted for him due to the siren song of foreign agitprop, hinge on the capacity for delusion, narcissism, and ultimately racism within #theresistance. We were told only last year that it would be progressive values and anointed technocrats, rather than intractable crisis and ecological apocalypse, that dominate the post-Obama American scene. Anyone who believes this today can go on doing so only for as long as Russia can be wholly blamed for the catastrophic trajectory upon which bourgeois democratic values have placed us. But, absent a real evidentiary smoking-gun--and with absolutely no hope of explaining how Russia was able to "influence" the American voting public in a way that's, say, incomparable to Canada's Banderite diaspora producing a garbage heap of ahistorical non-sense for mainstream liberal consumption--the case against Russia substitutes a volatile mix of white supremacist doctrine, its attendant pathologization of foreign politics, and the looming threat of invasion (digital now, but still bathed in the strikingly lurid natsec imagery of penetration, infiltration, intrusion, and--if we're being honest--miscegenation). No one who isn’t already pre-occupied with these ideas can possibly be convinced to give a poo poo about the equally incoherent and hypocritical accusation of “foreign meddling", and we should be extremely grateful that this category does not include most Americans.

During the campaign, I think it was someone in C-SPAM or maybe Twitter who joked that referring to Trump as an “orange Mussolini” was just a convenient way to avoid referring to Trump as a “white politician”. That’s maybe a little disingenuous but the basic idea is fundamentally correct: Trump is not to be mistaken as a reflection of authentic American society, but rather a reflection of mere foreign interests. He's not one of us. Those who express incredulity as to how Trump can position himself, despite the obvious reality, as an outsider candidate, need look no further than The Only Story That Matters, in which his supposed political opponents have quacked mightily and incessantly that Trump is the outsider—foreign, aberrant, deviant, urophilic, gay, Other. Not only is Trump not really white, the story goes, he’s not really rich, he’s not really a Republican, he’s not really an American, and above all he’s not really a Westerner! He’s a product of the East, an alien invader come to rebuild America in the image of our most hated enemies. American fascists are bumbling fat-asses cosplaying minutemen outside Milwaukee. Trumps' fascists are imported. They're dangerous Russian sleeper cells poised to take over the nation.

Since this whole thing began, I’ve seen #ameristan under Trump compared to places like Venezuela, North Korea, Cuba and Iran. Aside from just exemplifying the reactionary instincts of liberals to punch left in times of confusion and crisis, this is an extraordinarily dangerous playing field in which to score rhetorical points. Social democrats in America, for example, have cheerily embraced such deliberate conflations of right-wing populism and socialist critiques of inequality, even going so far on these boards as to suggest that Trump’s mustering of white resentment is something his opponents must adopt for themselves as a matter of principle! These pronouncements concern me far more than Trump’s campaign slogans or “Russian ties”. They contain all the basic ideological principles of Nazism, only wrapped in the Che Guevara t-shirt of left-wing radicalism. That today’s critics of Trump, especially in this thread, angrily reject any talk of imperialism and summon thunderous indignation at any systemic critique of American foreign policy is a particularly ominous addition to the discourse. To position Trump rhetorically as a champion of our most viciously antagonized global adversaries--Russians included—is objectively an act of extreme dishonesty, built on a bedrock foundation of a racially coded politics. It's endpoint is simply the assertion that non-white self-governance, Oriental despotism, and reactionary Trump-ism are different strains of the same anti-democratic virus that should in no way be recognized as indigenous to white Western society, but rather was merely contracted through prolonged contact with foreign nationals in the perilously unregulated arena of the internet.

This isn’t the even the only case where liberal critics of Russia and Trump have lazily paraphrased Nazi propaganda to warn us about dezinformatsiya (ooh, how foreign-sounding!). The claim that Russia is “destabilizing” American society, which must surely come as a shock to those who correctly saw that late capitalism was doing a commendable job on this front already, is textbook barbarians-at-the-gates hysteria. Russian infiltrators are simultaneously depicted as cool, capable, and exceedingly effective; poised to take over the country by co-opting the most powerful man in the world, and yet so staggeringly incompetent and amateur that every armchair dumbshit on reddit and the SomethingAwful forums can immediately see through their crass manipulations. I guess it’s a little suspicious that CounterPunch, AlterNet, The Intercept, Naked Capitalism, Black Agenda Report, Current Affairs, and the whole virgin territory of left-wing wordpress blogs never once appearing in any mainstream outlet turned out to be FSB psy-ops, but it just goes to show the lengths to which these body-snatchers will go to embarrass Democrats and discredit progressive heroes! If only these devious slavs showed more initiative in the 90s, when the Democrat-controlled empire was raping them senseless and stealing every ruble they could get their hands on. If only they'd developed such advanced dezinformatsiya when Nazis were slaughtering them by the millions, to cries of rapturous joy in the West, now refrained in the blogs and tweets of ghoulish liberals rehabilitating Barbarossa in between earnestly-stated commitments to "antifa" politics. Anyone with any understanding of Russian history who can refer to the Russian people as "scum" is way too much of a loving contemptible parasite to not eventually out themselves as a fascist, so don't tell me I'm out on a limb here. I'm not even the first person in this thread to point out that you people reek like fash and squawk like McCarthyites.

Re-branding liberal ideology as subversive anti-fascism in the Age of Trump might fool idiots who don’t actually understand where fascism comes from, but anyone who isn’t drunk on anti-communism can sense immediately that this new posture is less about the “rise” of the political right in America and more about a blood-gargling drone-happy progressive bloc coming face to face with their own smirking shadow. Why should we believe these people aren't racist hacks? Because they say they're woke radicals? Now they're accusing BLM of being Kremlin sock-puppets! If your goal was to provide a platform for every long-discredited Paperclip transplant and General Ripper in Western society, I can't imagine a better way of going about it than declaring this The Only Story That Matters.
