Eh, it varies. There are LE Park rangers and non-LE park rangers, both federally and at state level. States vary, obviously. Park Service Rangers and Law Enforcement Rangers are two different animals. I've known several state park rangers that decline the LEO track, despite higher pay, because they had no desire whatsoever to ticket somebody for harmlessly smoking a joint on the side of a mountain or to run around ticketing people with expired tags as a big gently caress-you welcome to bringing their kids out to experience nature and history.
