West Ham feel a bit like that now. During my formative teenage years I was lured by a comely older woman shoeshop girl into choosing Velcro school shoes instead of lace ups. The resulting ridicule with other kids constantly noisily unvelcroing them at the quiet bits in assembly definitely impacted on my performance at GCSE and set me up as the inconvienient adult I am today.
