Babe net seems to have had horrible managing tho, and a male dominated hierarchy of a front facing female org, that invariably collapsed on sexual misdeeds by the male proprietors and Facebook collectively dunking smaller sites in favor of Dan Bongino and Tucker Carlson https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thecut.com/amp/2019/06/babe-net-aziz-ansari-date-rise-and-fall.html

Why should we believe Aziz? The victim whose coming out ultimately got her and her mother death threats said she said no repeatedly, Aziz would stop, then manhandle her repeatedly over the course of the night.

Your take strikes me as similar to ppl who wonder why women dont run from these encounters, when first hand accounts and science shows that women are too overwhelmed by fear and social obligations to do nothing but shut down.

This woman was barely out of college. Its loving sickening.

You know, reading about the Tsujihara scandal https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.la...ml%3f_amp=true, it strikes me how his fall was engineereed by the talent agencies like CAA instead of being shamed into doing it like the sexual assault cases like Weinstein, that took multiple women coming forward and alot of press.

Tsujihara hooked up with a young actress and tried to get her roles in the movies he oversaw. The relationship was consensual. But I think that paradigm threatened agencies much more than the horrors usually visited on actresses we've heard about, and thats why they were so on the ball to call it out

However, the ordeal has cast a long shadow. During her time making TV show Angel, on which she appeared from 1999 to 2004, Carpenter would set off for work under cover of darkness. ‘I’d go to work at 4am and would have to leave my house to get to my car in the middle of the night,’ she explains. ‘I’d have to talk myself down from the panic that would set in that came from thinking someone would attack me. ‘It would be impossible to have an experience like that and for it not to leave long-lasting impressions. It’s like if you’re a pedestrian and a car swerves off the road and hits you. It doesn’t mean you never walk along a street again but you’re more aware and alert.’

Even if you're just talking about Youtube People it generally isn't a career you do without a specific reason, be it a desire for personal fame or for the (ugh) 'perks' that fame brings you. Combine that with years and years of media basically pressing the idea that if you become famous you can do whatever you want (which was perfectly embodied by 'guy who is famous for being famous became president') and it's no surprise that you see a lot of these things happening among 'personalities.' It kind of ends up self-selecting for abusive people. And when it doesn't you have people whose livelihood and similar addictive fame is tied to downplaying those things so they get to thrive. Worth noting that Pornhub and its various sister sites (it is now a vast and largely unaccountable empire) is built on stolen material that destroyed the porn industry and with it whatever loose controls there were on content, and no one cares because it's porn. As Bust Rodd points out there's no actual money in doing porn at this point, because the cost of entry is $0 for all involved.

Meanwhile, everyone watches porn and doing even one video is a scarlet letter; if you attempt to get a "real" job someone will eventually recognize you and you will lose that job. I would recommend The Butterfly Effect for more about this phenomenon, which among many other things also gets into people doing special order porn-by-request as a stopgap for people with extremely specific fetishes, like filming women crushing a stamp collection. This was four years ago so I imagine the market even on that sort of thing has dropped out.

The cards in question are extremely cringey, and compounding it is that the artist was infamous for being an open, unguarded racist at conventions and so on.

There's also at least one far-right artist they've recently done away with:

The difference between saying you're covering up for racism versus saying you're suspicious for covering up for racism seems like a fine line to me.

People think that racism is a yes/no thing when its really a fluctuating thing based on structural pressures and influences. I think turning away from racist things from the past (that always inevitably seems to continue in the present) helps encourage racism in the present.

I am not calling that poster a racist. But turning away from racist history does support racism and helps strengthen it.
