Agreed completely. Couldn't imagine how anyone could defend it, but even in this thread it may not be top 3 even in terms of defended poorly timed films made during the era (Louis CK's I Love You Daddy, Polanski's next film, Woody Allen's next film)

G Willow Wilson commented on the Warren Ellis situation

https://twitter.com/GWillowWilson/status/1273267066829549568

TL;DR
1) She believes Ellis' accusers and witnessed predatory behavior herself

2) It was an open secret in the 90s-00s (she left the industry for a bit after, so she can't vouch for how things were then). Essentially every pro in the industry knew, which obviously comes with
a) everyone looked the other way, and it's heavily implied that
b) a number of them significantly greater than 0 did so because they were abusers themselves

3) Ellis was a gatekeeper. If you broke into the business during that period, it was entirely because of who you knew. You had to make a good impression/get in good graces with him and a handful of other artists/writers. There were no applications, hiring initiatives, talent searches. All of this goes back to 2b in that he almost certainly wasn't the only one taking advantage of people during this

Series finale of Allen v Farrow is already such a tough watch, even compared to the rest

Half done, and 90% of that half is just famous person after famous person working with or praising or standing by Allen well after everything/during these last 21 years

Did they ever interview Moses or go into his allegations of abuse from Mia?

He refused to be interviewed for the show, but the finale briefly went into his and Soon-Yi's allegations against Mia and also noted that the rest of Mia's kids have been consistent with "that never happened" and implication is Woody came up with it to try to take the heat off him for what actually did happen with Dylan. Also Moses definitely lied when he said he was with Dylan the whole time and Woody could have never been able to do that to her that day, in addition to lying about the trains never being mentioned in testimony

I think there is a conversation to be had around which of these monsters get slapped down immediately versus which don't. Like, Kevin Spacey was booted out of public life almost instantly and I can't help feeling like the only reason it happened so fast and so thoroughly (which, GOOD) is that he preyed on at least one little boy, so he's GAY which is extra disgusting to a certain sort of person. Whereas people who prey on girls - look at how Roman Polanski still gets defended. It's repulsive.

I immediately think of the queer band PWR BTTM and how even though they were rightfully deplatformed essentially immediately after what came out about them came out, their labels all bailed and their discography was pulled from every streaming service. Definitely not saying that shouldn't have happened with PWR BTTM, but they're things/consequences that definitely haven't happened to straight bands accused of similar (Brand New) and hetero musicians accused of far worse (R Kelly) and it should have happened to them too

Wouldn't be the first thing about Barrowman https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Barrowman#Allegations_of_misconduct

quote:

In February 2008, Doctor Who co-star Freema Agyeman in an interview to thelondonpaper newspaper revealed that Barrowmore allegedly often arrives on set with his penis exposed and walks around having conversations with people like it was nothing.[103][104]

On 30 November 2008, Barrowman exposed himself during an episode of Radio 1's Switch programme.[105] Although the act was not seen, as a show staff member had covered the webcam, the BBC and Barrowman subsequently apologised for any offence caused.[106]

The injustice of Cosby going free is a greater injustice than the injustice of him going to jail, because he should be in jail, because of all the rapes he committed that he has never once shown contrition, shame, or guilt over. If you really think now is the time to be a rules lawyer, then you are playing Devil’s advocate for a serial rapist, it’s not that complicated.

I'm curious about what he was using the blackmail for, but also kind of terrified of the answer.

It was alleged that he'd invite media members to parties at the mansion. With cameras and mics being installed in every room in the building, eventually one thing would lead to another somehow, and any attempts at bad publicity from their workplace would basically be dead in the water or else it'd be revealed what their employees (and in some cases bosses) got up to in the place they were criticizing

He had tapes of everyone obviously, not just media, and they were "collateral" but it wasn't expanded on much. In the event of his death his executive secretary was instructed to destroy all the sex tapes, and an assistant said she was told they were put in a barrel that was then tossed to sea

Dick had been staying with a group of people living out of their RVs in an Orange County campground and livestreaming their lives together on the Captain Content YouTube Channel. According to a man named Maximiliano in the group, one of the members alleged Dick “molested” him recently.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched about 9 a.m. this morning to the Trabuco Canyon campground, where a man alleged he had been sexually assaulted by the comedian, said Orange County sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Steinle. Dick is being held on $25,000 bail, according to jail records.

“Did anyone witness anything last night — last night or this morning — anything unusual?” one of the deputies is heard to ask Maximiliano and a woman named Jessica as they livestream the events.

While their responses are unintelligible, Maximiliano is heard to explain that the comedian has been saying in one of their friends’ RVs.

“He lets Andy stay there. He’s been staying there for a while…Camping.”
