The Max Landis article is some absolutely stomach-churning poo poo.

quote:

“He showed me abuse and humiliation porn and constantly tested my boundaries—this became murkier and murkier as our relationship got more tumultuous, as I grew to view sex with him as the only way to receive love and connect,” Julie wrote in her statement. “This lead to me allowing myself to become more and more abused. He claimed that seeing me cry was a turn-on—this later turned into a routine of him yelling and humiliating me until I cried, then having sex with me while I continued to cry with no regard or effort to make things right.

Maybe explains why she's a little easy on him.

A little bit of older news but time barely means anything in COVID days, and I didn't see any mention of it earlier in the forums. It's also just the continuation and conclusion of the weird, desperate, forgotten footnote tier of all the Alamo Drafthouse poo poo that went down way back when.

Disgraced internet "film reviewer" and "personality" Harry Knowles - who was already floundering before this, and has always been lovely, attempted a mini-comeback in March by reviewing Pixar's Onward and he hosed it up so badly he had to issue an apology.

Harry Knowles' Onward Review posted:

Since Disney and Pixar kicked John Lassiter for giving employees HUGS, I've been a bit pissy about Pixar. We currently live in a world where showing affection for people is considered a sex crime. Hugs have become EVIL. I know this, because I too, have become targeted by such actions. Even if I hugged someone from the height of a wheelchair and did not anticipate the big rear end being where I thought a back would be. I regret it. I battled with it being wrong for a long time.

That's how the review practically OPENS. There's more that sucks, but here's why he decided to come back.

Harry Knowles' Onward Review posted:

I pouted like a baby. I was frozen by insecurities and doubts. Then Kirk Douglas died and I couldn't stop myself. My grief for such a giant of film was too much and once I wrote about him, the floodgates broke open and I couldn't hold back from writing. I'm not like most film writers. They tend to write about film from the stand point of finding flaw with cinema. Looking down upon film as though is wasn't worthy.

I am different.

Of course the comments section lit him up and he had to send an apology out. Your usual "I didn't read the room properly" non-apology stuff, but he let slip one regret in all this...no more perks and parties:

Harry Knowles' Apology posted:

My first best purpose in life is to share and pass on the film knowledge & enthusiasm that my parents infused into my DNA. I'm writing on AICN again for those that have been writing me wanting my particular GLASS IS FULL optimism and love for cinema. I won't be at any critiic screenings or advance screenings. My days of hosting events here are behind me, and that is a profound sadness.

Anyways, he reviewed one other movie, then cinema shut down, so who knows when he'll be back at it.

BirthMoviesDeath.com used to be owned by Alamo Drafthouse and were bought up by Cinestate like a month ago. They keep being literally owned by problematic companies.

The one thing I see in Rowling's "essay", and any other celebrities who endlessly tweet: the absolute, desperate, clawing-at-the-walls need to win the argument, to never take the L, to self-reflect, or admit that there's more than one way to look at things. I have no idea what pushes people like her or Graham Linehan or whoever else to constantly go "no, no, no...you just don't understand. Let me, your humble creator of things lay it out for you."

Obviously that's a symptom of Twitter itself, but it's more pathetic when it's someone who could literally be doing ANYTHING else.

Palmer was one of the first musicians to successfully fund a tour / album cycle through Kickstarter, I think to the tune of a million dollars or so.

Then she attempted to pay other musicians on the tour with "hugs and beer", which didn't go over well.

I think Hammer was pivoting his career to medium-budget-level indie stalwart, after Call Me By Your Name. He had a part in Sorry to Bother You and all this news has probably tanked the next Taika Waititi movie, since he's the lead in that and it's already filmed.

Looks like Michael Fassbender is the lead, although Hammer’s in it too. I don’t know how big his role is though. But yeah, it looked like he’d given up on the big leading man action movie star and was focusing more on indie stuff.

Oh goodie, Fassbender:

"A second instance of abuse reportedly occurred at a July 2009 film festival. Fassbender had been partying late and came back to his hotel room with a friend and the two tried to get into bed with Andrews. She says she ended up checking into another room so she could avoid the two men. The next morning Andrews found Fassbender “sleeping in urine” and when she tried to wake him up, he allegedly threw her over a chair and broke her nose."

The Hollywood Reporter went in-depth re: Joss Whedon and Justice League

Just a messy, iffy situation all around, but here's a choice quote:

quote:

Whedon sent out an email asking for questions, comments or "fulsome praise," but Fisher says it became clear: "All he was looking for was the fulsome praise." Trying to strike a jocular tone, Fisher responded that he mourned the loss of the Cyborg material but was moving on. He said he had notes to avoid issues in terms of representation of the character. But in a call with Whedon, Fisher says he had barely started to talk when the filmmaker cut him off. "It feels like I'm taking notes right now, and I don't like taking notes from anybody — not even Robert Downey Jr.," he said. Other sources on the project say Whedon was similarly dismissive of Gadot and Momoa when they questioned new lines.
