DC Murderverse posted:it's like the "loving a coworker from afar" stuff with Boyle in the first season of Brooklyn 99. it's really uncomfortable to watch him pine over Rosa that obviously and obnoxiously (not for the exact reason early Tom was, but similar reasons), but once the writers developed the character a bit more and realized how stale and awkward that story is, the show gets a lot better. I still think that romantic comedies and romance subplots hosed up people's ideas of relationships at least as much as porn.

I recall wondering the odds on whether it was Uncle Dan who got Jamie-Lynn Spears pregnant, which ended her career with Nick. IIRC they pinned it on her boyfriend. Would be nice to see him going down hard.

I'm not surprised at the multiple degrees in writing. It's not that hard as long as you can enjoy hashing out bullshit with other students and scramble to finish essays barely past the due date before too many late penalties stack up on tons of coffee. For an active script-writer it's probably useful exercise.

A Buttery Pastry posted:I think it makes a lot of sense to gradate like that, if you want to be able to distinguish better between anonymized celebrities. Plus the gradation itself mirrors the American grading system, so it seems as sensible and easily understandable as any other suggestion? Contrary to an A/B/C/D/E/F/G/H/I/J/K/L-list system would clash horribly with the more general idea of A/B/C/D-list celebrities used outside the site itself. Weirdly enough they grade comic book characters in the same way.

Interesting that comes up since GameSpot recently deleted and apologised for a tweet that called the old Lara design 'over-sexualised' and implied she wasn't an icon before her reboot redesign, after a feminist complained it's slut-shaming and enforcing patriarchal modesty norms.

Given the pattern of these things, might be a good idea to reserve judgement for a while, because this might get someone to come out who does say they feel victimised by his behaviour. But until then, no need to try to jump the gun to try to claim a scalp. It's about solving a problem and preventing future harm, not about finding enemies to claim victory over.

Knowing very little about the rap/hip hop scene other than cultural osmosis, it seems like you're considered a little behind on your cred if you HAVEN'T been in prison at some point, or at least gotten shot, addicted to drugs or having dealt them.I mean, the whole thing kinda is built on making confrontational and boundary-breaking art out of their shared terrible experiences with poverty, racism and crime.

There's a lot of discussion to be had over the actual cause, and a lot of it likely comes to capitalist alienation rendering many people essentially superfluous to society, toxic masculinity as the default upbringing for boys with no coherent alternatives, and suburban isolation, but I figured this thread is more to do with rich and powerful sexual predators rather than random losers on the internet.

I vaguely recall one guy who seems to have been abused by nearly everybody in Hollywood said the only people he could trust are Steven Spielberg and Michael Jackson. (oddly enough. I've mentioned that in retrospect, the latter seems maybe almost too obvious compared to the pattern we've seen of how easily the rich and famous can sexually abuse and get away with it, though that's a can of worms best not opened and no one has any proof)

Origami Dali posted:Didn't Jacko have a bunch of nudie kids magazines in his bedroom, per the politice inventory of neverland ranch? That doesn't prove he diddled kids, but it doesn't exactly instill confidence that the accusations were bogus. I recall they were more art books with supposedly non-sexual nudes of children among other pics rather than flat out porn, though obviously that's a blurry distinction at best. Still, might point to the theory that Jackson had a warped view of sexuality and physical boundaries from his upbringing, being exposed to sexual favours at a young age from being forced into being a child star. While there's no way to prove it, there are pointers to that he was just legitimately mentally hosed up rather than being a sexual predator. Mostly I find it interesting that despite being one of the first high-profile entertainment sex predators in the news, he really doesn't fit the profile now.

Straight men are definitely taught almost entirely terrible and bad lessons about sex and relationships by media, peers and most social institutions in general since birth. Doesn't mean that people of other genders and orientations can't have problems with it, though there's probably not as much study and insight into other angles of things. It's probably at least partly related to the above problems in a lot of cases, at a guess. Also likely doesn't help with queer people being more vulnerable all round.

Honestly, it seems to me that the best thing to do for the fears of false accusations and ambiguous consent is to just drag more of the dirty laundry out into the open to force people to think and talk about it and the forms that sexual harassment, assault and exploitation take. That and start to overhaul the whole way that society treats sex from the ground up, but that's obviously going to be hard.
