Help a hero out!

Battlerite is a top-down multiplayer arena game developed by Stunlock Studios, and the successor to the very excellent Bloodline Champions. And as of November 8th, it is now free to play!

Steam page is here.
Goon Discord is here.
Official Twitter is here.
Official Facebook is here.
Unofficial stat tracking is here. (note for returning players, this is a new site, not what was used during much of Early Access)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU6Ra-P746k

Matches in Battlerite are broken down into best-out-of-5 where two teams of players clash in a last-man standing battle royale (except Brawls, which I'll touch on later). There are two main versions of this, 2v2 or 3v3. You move your characters with WASD movement, aim with your mouse, and use some combination of keyboard keys and mouse buttons to case your spells. Your “shift key” will also add additional variation to your abilities.

Each character - a champion - has six unique abilities, an ultimate, and two EX abilities. As you land abilities you will accumulate energy, not unlike in a fighting game, and can spend 25% of a full gauge (a couple characters require 50%) to perform an EX ability, or 100% to use your Ultimate. If you fall in the middle of the fight, your teammate can pick up his energy and get a quick boost. The game also enters a brief slow-motion mode each time a player dies for people to adjust and react.

Right smack dab in the middle of the map is the Orb of Destiny. At intervals during a round, you’ll see a grey orb appear and destroying it gives the team who score the last hit a quick health regens and a boost to their EX meter. There are also smaller orbs that you can pick up near the center of the map; Green is for health, orange is for the EX meter.

Speaking of health, healing in Battlerite works very differently than most games. As you take damage your health goes down, but so does your maximum health. This means you actually can't get healed up to your normal maximum once you take a certain amount of damage, and eventually you'll barely be able to heal to a quarter of your maximum. Picking up green orbs and the center orb actually restore a small amount of maximum health in addition to their immediate healing, so consider letting teammates who have taken a beating pick them up, even if they're at their current maximum.

Games go very quickly in Battlerite - there's a 2-minute timer before Sudden Death kicks in, and many rounds will finish long before that anyway. You won't ever be trapped in 30-minute hell games, and there isn't any sort of snowballing since each round is completely separate. Keep your head in the game, steel your nerve, focus your Gamer Energies, and make that 3-0 comeback after losing two rounds straight! You can do it!

Currently there are five arenas, each with a day & night variant, making for a whopping 10 total maps! They're mostly relatively similar, with variations in wall placement and aesthetics, and no character is bad on one map but good on others. It's mostly for variety but sometimes you and your friends will develop a favorite and get pissy when you don't get to play on it, like me!

Mount Araz - Featuring not one but TWO giant skulls of some Ram-like beast. The Day version of this map is one of the most honest maps available - It has a few horizontal walls and a few vertical ones, and the middle section is pretty intimate. The Night version is quite different and offers two large walls to retreat behind. Doing so gives your opponent easy access to the various orbs though!

Orman Temple - A nice, pleasant romp through the woods (but still an arena??). The two versions of this map are probably the most similar of any map, with the Night version only shedding a few vertical walls. Lots of choke points, be careful not to get stranded in the northern or southern areas!

Sky Ring - This is an aerial arena that I guess is in the sky? The day and night versions of this map are, well, like day and night. The former has a good number of walls separating the outer ring from the center area, and the latter is wiiiide open and it's very difficult to escape line of sight from the middle.

Blackstone Arena - It's scary!! A lot like Sky Ring, the Night version offers few places to catch your breath other than some corners you don't want to find yourself backed up to, but the day version is a much calmer, more traditional map.

Dragon Garden - I hope you like jade (the rock, not the character) and Chinese warlords statues. The most unique aspect of Dragon Garden, other than its aesthetics, is its size - the map was designed for 3v3 while the first two were made when 2v2 was the primary format and the next two sorta tried to do both. The Day version features a very, very large center area, so large that getting pushed out of it is probably a really bad sign. The Night version has a layout similar to Orman Temple (but rotated 45 degrees), but larger.

Private Lobbies - Want to set up scrims, or just play against your friends/e-friends? You can do that here, as well as fiddle with a number of different settings.

The Odeum - The game records your most recent matches and even features a basic editor to let you make highlights and post them to your page in-game. What truly makes this feature godlike is that one of the worst-kept secrets for getting better at games is watching your replays to see what you did right and wrong, and Battlerite completely automates the process!

Daily, Weekly, and Event Quests - You’ll get daily match objectives, like “Play a Support for 4 games” etc., and these award battle coins. You'll also get longer week-long ones or quests specific to events when those happen.

Cosmetics - Each champion gets an array of both costume and weapon cosmetics you can unlock, as well as options for mounts and poses for post-battle victory screens (make sure to win a lot!).

Brawls - Brawls are weekend events that modify the traditional Arena gameplay in some way. Sometimes this is relatively minor, like the 1v1 brawl, and sometimes this is completely game-changing like the absolutely fantastic Easter event, Bakko's Egg Brawl. Currently the game mode "Battlegrounds" is sort of a hodge-podge of all of these and incorporates some traditional MOBA elements like leveling and bushes, but it received mixed reviews so its future is uncertain. Play it now if you like it!

Chests and Currencies -The devs have adopted a variant of the chest system you may have seen in CSGO, Overwatch, etc. however in Battlerite there are three main types of chests offering different rarity in items. They are the Silver, Gold, and Legendary chests. Silver chests are mainly obtained with Battle Coins or doing daily quests. Gold chests are gained from weekly quests or purchased with Gems. Legendary chests are generally tied to achievements or awarded as season end rewards. All three chests can also be gotten from leveling up champions, though this is obviously a finite resource. Getting repeat items in chests nets you Tokens.

You get these three currencies in a few different ways:
  • Battle Coins - These are awarded after every non-private game you play, and you get a chunk from doing Daily Quests as well. Used to buy Silver Chests and Champions.
  • Tokens - These are only obtained from chests, either from item repeats or just by themselves. Used to buy cosmetics directly.
  • Gems - You buy them with real world dollar bills. Used to buy Champions or Boosters.

Battlerites are the game's method of mechanical character customization. Each character can have five slotted battlerites and these augment your abilities. You can have at most two battlerites corresponding to the same ability, or one in the case of your R-bound or Ultimate ability. As an example, lets look at some of Rook's battelrites:

Normally the ability "Crushing Blow" deals 16 damage and inflicts Armor Break, which increases the damage the victim takes from all sources by 20% for 3 seconds. If you take the Weapon Break battlerite it now deals 2 more damage and also reduces the damage the target deals, Squash would make Crushing Blow stun for .5 seconds, and Rook Smash simply increases the damage by 6. And since you can have two of those (remember, only two per ability), you could stack Weapon Break and Rook Smash to make Crushing Blow deal 24 damage and reduce damage dealt. Or however else you want to combine them, if at all!

You can store multiple loadouts at a time, and every character comes with a default loadout designed for newer players. These can be somewhat subpar though so once you're comfortable with your abilities I recommend experimenting with your own builds. This feature received a rather massive overhaul with the pre-F2P patch so unfortunately information on suggested builds and such is rather hard to come by, but no doubt there will be a deluge of information in the coming weeks if you have no idea what to pick.

This is a bit barebones, as I'm writing it during the last few days of Early Access. I'll fill in more once more information becomes available.

The primary monetization system in Battlerite is Gems, which can be bought on a roughly $1 USD-to-100 level, with bundles that offer better deals available.

There are also various game bundles available on Steam with more to come during seasonal events and such. This includes the Champion's Pack (all champs + all future champs), the Value Pack (some gems, chests, and a booster), and the Ultimate Fan Pack (only buy this if you're rich IRL, otherwise get the Champion's Pack).

Many thanks to Ruzihm for the original OP, which I have updated where necessary for the F2P launch!

Help a hero out!

Here's a bunch of tips that don't necessarily fit anywhere else and hopefully help you learn some of the basic ideas of the game.

  • Do the tutorial!!
  • "Focus the healer" isn't a viable strategy in Battlerite. This is for several reasons, but the easiest to explain is that near everything in this game involves targeting, and by only attacking a healer you're making it very, very easy for them to correctly hit their heal target. If your teammate says "focus the Blossom" at the start of the round they probably don't really know what they're talking about unless your comp just really, really capitalizes on that sort of thing. Instead try a "focus whoever is vulnerable" strategy, meaning whoever doesn't have tools available to deal with your pressure or whoever is out of position. Which is related to...
  • Think consciously about enemy cooldowns. You definitely won't memorize them right out of the gate, but try to get a feel for defensive cooldowns at least. If you see a Sirius use his counter and teleport you know he doesn't really have any great defensive options for around 8 seconds, meaning you and your team are free to go hamburgers on his rear end.
  • Learn to Cast Cancel. This is a tool all characters have access to and is bound to C by default, but I personally use Mouse-4. This is more important for some champions than others, but everyone benefits from this. Canceling an ability puts it on cooldown for about a second, but you can use the startup animation and sound to trick your opponent into blowing cooldowns. Just make sure to not overly rely on this since eventually your enemy will figure out that you aren't making good on your threat. Mix it up!
  • Supports in Battlerite do damage, they aren't healbots. Some of them do pretty whackadoo damage actually, though it generally isn't burst so it doesn't really "stick" a lot of the time. Still, this means if you're playing a support you need to be using your damage abilities, including your M1. This creates pressure and makes it more difficult for enemies to safely engage, which is basically hyper-proactive healing if you think about it.
  • If you press Tab and mouse over the damage/protection/control numbers you'll see a more specific breakdown of what percentage of those came from which abilities. What might surprise you is that your #1 damage source will generally be your M1 ability. M1s make up a significant source of damage for pretty much every character in the game, and if you aren't landing M1s then working on that will immediately elevate your game faster than pretty much anything else.
  • Hit Your poo poo, Dodge Their poo poo.
  • Brake, a very dedicated community member on Reddit, made an absolutely fantastic newbie thread that goes over a lot of what I discussed in greater detail, including suggested character builds from the top players and some other great features. I strongly suggest you check it out if you want to learn more. I particularly recommend the "Things to do before you queue" post he links, which helps you set up your game options and other settings.

As of now Battlerite has 22 champions, split between Melee, Ranged, and Support. During Early Access champions were generally added in a 1-1-1 manner, where no type got a new character until the other two did to keep numbers balanced. There are currently plans to release a new champion every month until March, not including Thorn who was added on F2P launch. Below is a list of all current champions, you can click their portrait for a link to their Wiki page with a more detailed breakdown. The title next to the character is also the title you get from leveling that character to 20.

Note: These are all my personal opinions on characters (gained from a decent amount of playtime, mind you), or opinions from people I play with. None of this is gospel, especially with balance patches being a regular thing.

Bakko, Hero of Boulder Pass

Bakko excels at disruption and initiation, and acts as a potent spearhead for his team to rally behind. His M1s charge his M2, which is a ranged axe throw that does more damage the more you charge it. Don't be afraid to just use this ability constantly; The cooldown is quite small and you can use it for either footsies or burst, either at melee or ranged. Bakko also loves EX meter as he possesses some of the most potent meter spenders in the game, especially if you can get value out of his R ability by hitting some allies who are getting poked. He lacks self-sustain though so be careful not to stay in too long - unlike some melee champs, Bakko really thrives off his cooldowns and retreating to heal up and reset is important.

Croak, the Ranid Assassin

Despite being a stealth character, Croak actually has a lot in common with Bakko in that he loves to deal his damage and then reset to safety. However, unlike practically every other melee champ, Croak deals very poor damage if you simply M1 in someone's face forever. He has a unique reload mechanic where, after several seconds, he will gain 4 weapon charges that significantly increase the attack speed of his next M1 attack. Once these are used up, typically after you unstealth and stun someone, it's often better to retreat to safety. Fortunately for Croak he has a huge number of tools to do precisely that, most of which pass right through or over enemy hitboxes or walls. Once you're safe you can poke freely with his Toxic Spit to do a bit of chip damage and heal up. Also, as a pro-tip, EX Stealth (Deceit) is INCREDIBLY good, try to use it constantly.

Shifu, the Spearmaster

Shifu is a highly mobile burst champ who is, frankly, terrifying. He deals an incredible amount of burst damage if he gets to play his game, which is building up charges for his M2 or hitting his counter (Kunju) to teleport directly onto people and ravage them. I'm serious, if you like melee and burst, Shifu is your character. He can also simply go invincible every 12 seconds and still deal 50% damage while doing so, but you generally want to save this to retreat unless you use the EX version, which also heals you. That also goes for his Javelin throw, don't be afraid to use that to retreat, not just engaging. Shifu also possesses one of the best crowd control cooldowns in the game, Tendon Swing, which incapacitates all enemies in a rather generous arc. Oh, and despite using a glaive rather than a spear, Shifu loves to talk about his spear play.

Freya, the Eye of the Storm

Freya loves to engage aggressively, prey on the weak, and stay protected while doing it. She applies a debuff called "Static" with many of her attacks that empowers her M1 (adding 2 damage per swing) and allows her to incap people with her M2 hammer throw. And unlike most melee she doesn't heal, but instead applies constant barriers to herself and has a lot of invincibility frames, both of which make it difficult to trade with her if she's controlling the tempo. She has difficulty escaping from fights that are going south, but as long as you maintain your barriers and make your enemies afraid to actually attack you with proper Counter usage then Freya can really do what she wants. Her biggest weakness is that she simply doesn't have a lot of ways to protect her team short of dealing enough damage to make herself a priority.

Ruh Kaan, the Crypt Warden

One of the more patient melee, Ruh Kaan prefers to bring the fight to him with his Claw of the Wicked ability which pulls enemies to you. He can also zone decently with Shadow Bolt, a short cooldown ranged ability that does massive damage after a somewhat lengthy cast time. The most important mechanic for Ruh Kaan though is his Curse. Similar to Freya, Ruh Kaan applies this through several skills and it augments his M1s on the victim, significantly increasing the damage dealt and healing him every time he hits. This makes it very difficult for most characters to trade with Ruh Kaan while cursed, meaning the RK player should push the advantage and get his damage in while he can. Play Ruh Kaan if you don't mind playing patiently and waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike.

Raigon, the Exiled Prince

The true hunk of Battlerite, Raigon is as polite as he is frustrating to duel. An incredibly strong 1v1 character, Raigon is typically played by diving the opponent's backline and going to town on whichever Support or Ranged character who looks at him funny. He can spend EX meter to augment his weapon with wind, causing his next several attacks to become ranged and heal him, and his M2 heals him for every enemy it hits. Unfortunately for Raigon, his neutral game leaves a lot to be desired at times - His only true projectile has a long cooldown and if he uses his Heavenly Strike ability to force your way into the backlines he can easily find himself surrounded with no real way to escape. But once you're on someone Raigon is an incredibly sticky duelist who can potentially just sit on someone indefinitely without their team to take care of them.

Rook, the Hungering Berserker

Voted "Most Likely to be Changed in Early Access", Rook is a big boy who likes to make big plays. Like Raigon his options for ranged pokes are rather limited - his Boulder Toss is an AoE that can be walked out of and his only projectile is an EX ability tied to one of his most important normal abilities. He also self-heals quite a bit using his EX M1, Eat, but he isn't really a duelist in the sense Raigon is. Rook is reliant on his Berserk buff, which is by default only applied by having an enemy hit his Counter (tip for fighting Rook: Avoid Doing This), which significantly buffs his attack and movement speed, gives him temporary invulnerability, and can be augmented with Battlerites to make him tankier, speedier, or both. He can also apply Armor Break, which increases all damage the target receives. Just don't make the amateur mistake of Rushing in, immediately Countering, and then promptly dying when no one attacks you. Proper cooldown usage as Rook is incredibly important since otherwise you'll just die, but if you do things right you're a disruptive whirlwind of pain.

Thorn, the Twisted Terror

Perhaps the most anticipated character leading to his release, Thorn offers a bunch of crowd control and neutral game tools compared to the other melee characters. His two main projectile, Leeching Thorns, does decent damage and gives him a bit of self-healing, but the main draws of his kit are the setup offered by Entangling Roots, Evil Clutch, and most controversially, Burrow. Each of these tools allows him to pick the enemy team apart in different ways to keep people separated, immobilized, or locked down as the rest of your team bears down on them. And Thorn himself is able to do quite a bit of damage, though befitting his aesthetic it rarely comes in the huge bursts many other champions offer. Instead Thorn trades that burst potential for versatility. And even this lack of burst "weakness" quickly falls away once you have enough meter to use your ultimate, which creates a massive wall of thorns that block enemy projectiles, snare and harm any enemies stuck inside them, and grants you a massive amount of mobility and i-frames when you activate it.

Ashka, the Molten Fury

Ashka is an incredibly selfish champion on the surface; he has no way to shield or heal allies, he does't debuff the enemy, and he doesn't really have ways of mitigating damage on himself to ease your Support's burden. But what he DOES do is controlling the neutral game. Ashka keeps himself and his team safe by putting stun AoEs and firewalls down, dealing massive damage from a safe range, and being able to turn up the heat with his various forms of mobility that allow him to either disengage or chase as necessary. One of the few champs who will end rounds with 0 Protection rating, Ashka will instead earn his spot on your team by simply keeping people out while you chip away at them at your leisure. Fighting a good Ashka is one of the more thoughtful encounters in Battlerite, so make sure to keep people on their toes and to control the pace of the game if you pick him so people can't download you before you burn them up.

Ezmo, the Mischievous

Something of a feast or famine character, Ezmo has a shorter range than most ranged champs and little in the way of defensive options. What he instead has is unique mobility in the form of Displace, a blink-type ability which can be recast during the next few seconds and ignores all obstacles. This allows him to play like something of a jerk, where he Displaces in, deals a bit of damage, then leaves to do it again later. The rest of his kit supplements this in various ways, like Shackles which root whoever is under your cursor after a short cast. You can either use it to punish a melee who overextends or to stop a retreating target. He also has Chaos Grip to poke safely and force people out of position, and can temporarily increase his range with Tome of Destruction. Ezmo's tools are mostly quite basic, but incredibly versatile; the key to being a successful Ezmo is thinking of new and terrifying ways to use your options. That, and M1 tracking.

Iva, the Scavenging Inventor

The other ranged champion with a limited range, Iva packs a shotgun and just about every other tool you can image, and is capable of dealing some frankly disgusting damage while having a unique support-oriented ability suite. She can dispel buffs, barrier and speed up allies, incapacitate enemies from a terrifying range, pull people around, slow them down, fly around the arena, and probably a bunch of other things I can't remember as I type this. Basically, think of an option you wish a champ had, and Iva probably has some version of it. Unfortunately the cost here is that her kit is rather unfocused and she has no real redundancies in her abilities to act as a safety net when you mess up a cooldown. You also need to be comfortable mixing it up in mid range if you want to realistically deal damage, but still stay safe far away until an opening presents itself. Not a great beginner champ, but worth the effort.

Jade, the Lone Gunner

Contrary to her name, Jade actually has some of the best options to support her team available to any ranged character. She is able to cloak like Croak, but her default Stealth skill isn't fantastic. Fortunately her EX Stealth is absolutely fantastic, granting her and any nearby allies a nice shield in addition to cloaking her and giving her a nice burst of speed. But the reason stealth is important in the first place for Jade is because of her Snipe skill - dealing a massive 38 damage by default which pierces enemies (and the mid orb), hitting Snipe is an essential part of good Jade play. But Snipe has a long cast time with a very distinct start-up animation and sound, meaning stealthing allows you to mask the animation. Once you get comfortable cast-cancelling you can even bait out defensive cooldowns with just the sound.

Jumong, the Beast Hunter

Jumong has one of the longest ranges in the game and some very potent burst damage, but the real appeal of the character are his two unique mechanics, his bow charges and Seeker's Mark. The former is gained by hitting his M1 arrows and, upon stocking three charges, he can dual-cast almost any of his abilities. Need burst and the enemy has no cooldowns to stop you? Fire off two Steady Shots. Want some area control? Drop two Rain of Arrows right on someone. Gotta get out of dodge, fast? Black Arrow twice and be halfway across the map. As for Seeker's Mark, it's a debuff Jumong applies and can consume with Black Arrow or Steady Shot to heal himself for a chunky 16 health, giving him surprising self-sustain for a character with such a generous range. He also has some rather strange EX abilities, but both are very strong and Jumong has no shortage of energy gain, so experiment with them! Just make sure to save enough energy for Prowl or the hunter may quickly become the hunted.

Taya, the Wind of the West

Taya is fast, fast, fast. Having access to on-demand Haste in multiple forms, Taya can zip and zoom around the battlefield, hurling boomerangs every which way. Many of her attacks have a unique property where they will return to her after being deployed, meaning you have two chances to hit, and these attacks all pierce enemies as well. This means Taya is capable of dealing incredible damage to enemies who bunch up, and it's practically impossible to stop a determined Taya from securing the middle orb. Her main downside is a lack of defensive capabilities; her only true defensive cooldown, Tornado, has a hefty 15 second cooldown and requires energy, and a lot of the time you'll be giving this to your allies anyway. Making things even trickier is her rather mediocre range and weird hitboxes. Still, if you want to constantly be dealing damage and moving around, Taya is a great fit.

Varesh, the Eternal

Varesh is Taya's opposite, playing more like a turret than anything since his only reliable mobility is his Reform teleport ability, and he slows down quite a bit when he starts shooting. Instead he deals high single target damage while also enfeebling the enemy with two of the most potent debuffs in the game, Corruption and Judgement. Corruption reduces the damage and healing done by the target for 5 seconds, and Judgement increases all damage they receive for 5 seconds. These debuffs are represented by a teal and purple ring at the target's feet, so if you're playing with a Varesh keep an eye out for those and capitalize on them. Varesh also consumes these debuffs with Shatter and Crush to deal extra damage, heal himself, and snare and silence the target. As if that wasn't enough he also has a potent support tool in the form of Inhibitor's Guard, a barrier he can place on himself or allies to absorb a bit of damage.

Destiny, the Sky Ranger

Destiny, like Ashka, has an incredibly strong neutral game and is able to play well both aggressively and defensively. Unlike Ashka her options for getting out of a bad situation are quite limited and she really relies on that neutral game and pressure to keep herself safe. Fortunately she has the tools necessary to do this. Perhaps most notably among these is her infamous Plasma Wall. This ability creates a long, thin band of light on top of your cursor which temporarily absorbs any enemy projectiles and snares all enemies who walk through it. The key word here is "temporary", since after the barrier expires any projectiles it caught will resume their trajectory, dealing damage and effects as they normally would, so make sure you aren't in their path! I don't generally talk about EX abilities here but Destiny's EX-1, Transform Weapon, is a crucial part of her kit that goes ignored by new players so I'm making a mention here. When cast this ability grants you a 10 HP shield and reduces the damage of your M1s to 6 for the next 5 seconds. However anytime you hit someone with an M1 while in this mode you gain an additional 10 HP shield (to a max of 40), and shooting an ally grants them the same shield. Oh, and also this champion is Samus. There, the Obvious Joke has been made.

Alysia, the Ice Weaver

very new, info coming soon!!

Lucie, the Expelled Alchemist

Probably one of the most "support-y" of the supports, Lucie is an expert in keeping her allies safe; Her heal is potent and applies a small HoT on allies, and her barrier (appropriately named "Barrier") is the strongest in the game. She can even dispel debuffs or enemy buffs with Clarity Potion - and it is incredibly satisfying to properly predict and dispel a Croak's stealth just before he gets the drop on you. She also has access to Panic Flask, a potent CC ability that sends the victim fleeing in the opposite direction, letting her and her allies either reposition or get a few free hits in, or possibly both if you setup properly. Her damage also isn't bad, though her burst is almost nonexistent. Lucie struggles with aggression and her only true escape is Roll, a long cooldown which costs energy. Proper Lucie play involves knowing your positioning and making your limited escape options count!

Oldur, the Time Mender

Oldur is an aggressive support who deals damage while controlling space better than almost anyone. Oldur's M1 isn't the fastest attack but he is able to keep firing them off while moving around, which is uncommon among supports. Both his M1 and heal have two parts to them, dealing or healing a mediocre amount of damage upon impact and then another burst several seconds later. This means Oldur is a goat-man who likes to spread the love, since spamming either on the same target isn't great value relative to other supports. He also has access to Stone Glass, an AoE melee range Petrify that takes about 2 seconds to actually kick in once applied. People will generally try to escape from you the moment you apply the debuff to them since otherwise you're free to setup a bunch of burst damage with M1 and your Quicksand AoE. Oldur's biggest weakness is his lack of healing throughput and ways of directly mitigating damage on allies, so make sure to kill the other team before your time runs out.

Pearl, the Ocean Sage

Pearl is the first champion who is wholly original to Battlerite instead of a port from Bloodline Champions. She is also one of the simplest characters to grasp - her M1 deals the highest upfront damage out of any support but has no associated DoT or debuff, her teleport has no fancy properties beyond charging your M1 (which makes your next attack Silence for 1 second and deal extra damage), and her counter just pushes people away and heals you a bit. She does possess a rather unique skill called Bubble Barrier which puts a big blue bubble on the ground that significantly slows any enemies or enemy projectiles that try to pass through it, as well as pushing friend and foe away from the bubble when its placed. Pearl is most notable as being very difficult to kill between her heals, counter, bubbles, and ways to escape. Her bubble shield also dispels debuffs so try to use it on an ally who was just Stunned or CC'd in some way and who would otherwise take a bunch of damage. Other than the shield though she's a rather selfish support who is more about self-preservation than damage or directly helping allies.

Pestilus, Lord of the Swarm

One of the most unique champions, Pestilus is one of two supports who doesn't have a specific "heal" ability. Instead his M1 and Bloodsucker function as both healing and damage abilities depending on if they hit friend or foe. This also means he has no direct means of healing himself, and in fact actually hurts himself whenever he uses Bloodsucker. Fortunately healing a friendly target with M1 will also heal Pestilus a small amount. And in the event you don't have an ally nearby you can use your Queen ability to summon a stationary insect which heals all friendly targets around it and can be healed by your M1 (which also heals you!). You can also detonate your Queen with Bloodsucker, causing all enemies around it to become Panicked. He has a few other fancy tricks, like his teleport actually hiding him inside another character's hitbox or his Brain Bug that straight up allows you to move your enemy's character around. Just be careful with your positioning because Pestilus has very few reliable ways to save himself once things start going south.

Poloma, the Psychopomp

Poloma shares Pestilus' unique mechanic of healing and dealing damage with the same button, though she's much less self-destructive while doing it. Instead Poloma has two mechanics called Spirit Link and Soul Bind, which are both applied by her M1 to allies and enemies respectively. Every time you heal an ally under the effect of Spirit Link it heals nearby allies (including Poloma) for 50% of the amount, and dealing damage to any enemies who have Soul Bind deals 30% of that damage to all other Soul Bound enemies near them. Note that this bonus healing/damage only applies to abilities that Poloma uses, not your whole team, but it can add up to a rather silly amount of extra healing/damage over the course of the game. It's easy to heal off the extra damage so make sure your team capitalizes on the chip by pressuring appropriately. Poloma also has access to several unique movement skills, including the incredibly powerful Other Side, which makes her or an ally completely invulnerable for a few seconds (or until cancelled) and allows them to pass through enemy hitboxes, though they cannot attack or use abilities while in this state. It's a very long cooldown though so use it wisely!

Sirius, the Zenith

Currently the only melee support, Sirius gets access to a weapon charge mechanic similar Ruh Kaan where his M1 attack will become empowered every 8 seconds to deal an extra 14 damage and inflict a very, very nasty Weaken that reduces the target's damage and healing output by 50% for almost 3 seconds. He is also the only support with access to a true counter ability, Sunrise, which teleports him to your mouse cursor when activated and instantly charges his weapon again. Speaking of teleporting, Sirius has one of those too which heals allies and hurts enemies wherever he lands. Perhaps scariest of all is Lunar Strike, a ground targeted AoE that Petrifies any enemies unlucky enough to be standing on it after the cast delay for a whopping 3.4 seconds! As you probably guessed, his main weakness is that he really needs to be in melee range to deal reliable damage, but his non-charged damage is pretty pathetic. This means Sirius is about who to initiate on and when, unloading your charged strike and a bit of extra damage, then reevaluating the situation to see if you should continue pressuring or retreat to help your team.

Blossom, the Forest Mender

Blossom, like Lucie, is a support focused on exactly that, supporting. And like Sirius she also gets an M1 that charges over time, doubling its damage and applying a Snare on the target, though she has the fortune of getting to use it from a safe range. Blossom's two most unique abilities are Hop and Tree of Life. Hop lets Blossom leap to your cursor, but then immediately cloaks her, making her the only support with access to invisibility without requiring a Battlerite. The invisibility breaks when you use any ability but you can use that time to relocate to a safer position (or pop out nearby for a surprise charged M1 if you're insane) or run around picking up the green and orange orbs. Tree of Life summons a massive tree that immediately heals any allies nearby and continues to heal them in a rather generous range, meaning if you can force team fights to happen around your tree your team has a massive health advantage. Much like Pestilus' Queen your tree can be killed though, but fortunately this also means you can use it to block attacks for you. Blossom doesn't have a really pronounced weakness aside from being somewhat vulnerable when Hop isn't available, so make sure to watch your positioning while you wait for that to come back.

after a 4 hour delay on freetoplay launch, they've delayed it again without announcing anything and took down their patch notes. still costs 20 dollars on steam. also, the security certificate on their website expired. also, season rewards got hosed up and people are getting diamond rewards even if they didn't play last season. lol

pastebin of patch notes here: https://pastebin.com/raw/zXyUukTY

Discord Integration

Updated Discord user profiles while playing Battlerite with new “Now Playing” section, making it easier to keep track of what your friends and community are doing within Battlerite
Added the possibility to party up via chat embeds on Discord, with real-time information about the open party slots and party’s in-game status

neat

Looks like the free to play version is now live on Steam!

Additionally, you can get a free Ashka champion at this link.

https://wccftech.com/battlerite-giveaway-10k-codes-ashka/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Also, if anyone still has Battlerite Lite keys available, I believe they are still active and give new players access to a few heroes for free.

Battlerite is incredibly fun. It’s no-frills MOBA-style teamfights with some fighting-game meter management. It’s biggest downside is variety and playerbase.

I’m really excited for the f2p launch because I can get my stingy friends to join me in glorious battle. It’s immediately engaging in the perfect arcade-y fun way.

5 minute queue for a 3s match...

idk why they didn't just man up and make 2v2 casual, 3v3 ranked, and then 1 excess queue type for gimmick modes and events, like the Battlegrounds queue. Split queues are gonna be a disaster for finding fast and decent games if the population ever dips back down again.

Getting back into this. It's been like a year since I last gave it a shot, relearning a lot of stuff.

I don't understand why they split up the playerbase into so many queues.

yeah, I've been playing him a bunch already. He's great at trapping melee opponents into bad situations, but once his Husk and Burrow is down he's really vulnerable. What I see a lot of players doing against me is peeling off entirely when I Husk, giving me extra seconds to get cooldowns back online.

I'm bad at remembering to use EX abilities but Root Network looks like it'd be hilarious.

I haven't played Blossom since I haven't really played in like nine months (lol) but dang she's good. Such a shitload of healing. Anyone who plays her more, got thoughts on the battlerites? The only one that seems necessary is the one that puts a weaken on her m1 charge.

Oh sweet, Thorn has a Zerg-esque skin. I just tried him out in the training arena thingy and that's all I was thinking when I saw him burrowing, lashing people with vines, etc.

Good lord the UI in this is a mess. I keep getting lost in menus, I'm constantly unreadied while waiting in queue, and mounts are bugged and you can't equip anything that has more than one color.

Why are there so many redundant paths to any given menu tab?

At least the game's actually fun once I finally get into a match.

It's pretty crazy how little the core gameplay has changed since the initial release, seems silly to have waited to make it f2p.

Still a fun game though, so whateva

Agreed

Gameplay flows much better just playing 5 rounds after setup, too, instead of a bunch of setup time after each round. I wish you could default to setting up talents every game without clicking through a loadout, then clicking customize, then clicking accept and readying. Just show the talents and then I click ready when I have my 5 set.

I had a bunch of good Battleground matches around noon today, but now as we get into the afternoon I just get one person who ragequits after losing the first objective and then the enemy team forfeits. Haven't managed to finish a match.

What are you talking about? It is possible to set up loadouts beforehand and just clicking on it + on ready.

Yes. I want to manually do that before the game when I see who my opponents are. Without clicking five times first.

Considering how important team composition is in this game I really don't want to do predefined loadouts, especially not when I'd frequently go "Well, against this particular combo, I'll skip Deep Burrow and pick up Lurker instead" for practically every single loadout.

Just let me pick my battlerites directly instead of having to double click Default Loadout then find and click Customize Loadout, at which point the battlerite window covers up the 3rd player on the enemy team, so I go "Shoot" and back out to confirm that, yes, it's a Croak, then reopen Customize Loadout.

The game's UI is stuffed full of unnecessary stuff like this and, while far from a deal breaker, it gets on my nerves.

Aside from the new art assets, I can't really point to any part of the new UI that's better than the old one. It's mostly just different, instead of being better.

Yeah, having 3 loadouts when there's 2 different modes (3 if you count the battlegrounds) and various matchups makes it almost pointless. I end up having to switch 2-3 battlerites before every match anyway

Man, Raigon has such stupid amounts of self-healing when specced for it. I'm consistently outhealing my ally in 2s. Hits my damage a bit, but doesn't matter if I can outlast everything.

Overflowing Power / Hawk Dive / Duelist / Invigorate / flex. I like Dragon Mastery but Perilous Height is decent too. Headlong Rush I haven't really found too much use for yet.
