Ewok Hunt is too stressful. Amazing job on making the little bastards terrifying.

I'm bad at this game but I love wandering through the environments feeding free kills to the enemy team. Everything is so beautiful. I can only imagine Star Wars Galaxies using this game engine.

EDIT: VVV I loved TD and TD2 for their incredible environments. The weather effects (particularly snow) were impressive.

Ubisoft and Massive are working on an open world SW game using Massive's Snowdrop game engine, the same one used in The Division 2. Here's what the gameplay in TD2 looks like, to give you an idea.

Finally tried co-op mode and found that it's a good way for a bad player like me to unlock weapons and skills, and sometimes I even contribute to the team. Up until this point I haven't bothered with the advanced characters because my time to live is so short I didn't want to take up a hero slot a better player could've used. But in co-op I've started trying it and it can be pretty fun. The number of NPCs the game throws at you gets ridiculous though.

Is there some sort of primer for new players? I picked this up for free from epic and I've found it overwhelming. The unlock system for the basic classes I've sort of figured out and usually the early game makes sense. However, you get to mid-late game and it feels like everyone has lightsabers and maxed out skill cards and you're just cannon fodder.

Is there a recommended set of jedi/sith to get used to? A gametype to focus on for leveling them? Or a writeup of how to use them and not immediately die?

Sort of related, is there any way to shoot down skygods on maps like Hoth if you aren't in a ship yourself?

Scrub-Niggurath

If you’re trying to level up your heroes then play coop mode. It’s very short rounds against AI with a few other players and you get full exp for unlocking things. It’s great for learning the maps, leveling your heroes and special troopers, etc.

Playing them is pretty complicated but the best source for new player videos imho is the Star Bazaar YouTube channel, they have the most Battlefront 2 stuff for new players.

As for shooting down pilots your two best bets are either heavy with their lock-on ion missile (the ion turret can help but is easily distracted by things like walkers, and the enemies have to be flying relatively low), or the specialist with the ion version of the NT-242 if you’re a good shot and can manage your recoil

Now that I spend most of my time playing co-op I'm quickly leveling up the base classes. I even started trying the heroes now and then, but I'm focused on unlocking base class weapons so I can make the most of those characters.

There is no way around the fact that your poo poo just won't be as good until you've put in a lot of hours. There are ways to mitigate this a little, but it is a baked in feature. This is because the progression system is poorly conceived and had to be hacked into existence from a pay-to-win gatcha scheme. It is one of the Not Good aspects of the game.

One suggestion I have is, depending on how much you like heroes, either double down or ignore them entirely. If you like em a lot, then play the dedicated hero modes for a while. You'll get better and rank em up fast. If you like them less than a lot, ignore them entirely, and spend your battle points on constantly becoming enforcer/aerial/infiltrator classes. Unlike heroes, these classes share EXP across eras and teams, and you can be them a lot more often, so ranking them up goes much quicker than. Especially while you're in the "I have to think about where my progression goes because all my cards are white or green" phase.

Hoth with the 242+Ion is stupidly fun and easy to cheese for the first two phases (especially vs AI) because you can just camp by Echo Base and absolutely ruin AT-ST walkers from miles away before they ever threaten your team.

Alternately, play as an officer and follow around squads of more experienced teammates and give them boosts. You're helping the team, you get XP like crazy, and you might pick up a few tips from watching the veterans. Good advice. You can top the scoreboard and move your team to win as a Enforcer that is constantly doing work than as a Hero who constantly runs away to heal. To focus on hero play the best way to learn how to play heroes is this progression: Co-Op mode, Supremacy, Hero Showdown, Heroes vs Villains.

You might think that the primary mode where you only play heroes is the best way to learn heroes (Heroes vs Villains) but it can turn into a total gangbang mess, and if you are new it can feel brutal. Galactic Assault is also not a great mode to start learning heroes because the maps and objectives can be very focused so you can get yourself wasted as a hero extremely quickly.

Co-Op is a great starting point because it lets you get a lot of time in as heroes to level them up, but it also teaches you something very important. Heroes can effortlessly clean out troopers 1v1 or 1v2 or 1v3 no problem, but if you run into a huge room and draw the fire of a bunch of people at once your dead. Heroes are not invincible and the AI will face melt you with a pointblank headshot shotgun blast just as well as a human player can.

Supremacy is a great next step because on the ground phase you have plenty of space to run away and heal up, and you rarely face dense packs of troopers due to the large maps.

Hero Showdown is nice because 2v2 with only a single life makes your victories and defeats much more obvious. HvV mode is usually decided by which team sticks together the most, Hero Showdown is more about who is better at individual heroes. On PC you can text chat and ask if people want to 1v1 duel in Hero Showdown as well, a large % of players actually queue for Hero Showdown for 1v1 lightsaber dueling. Ask if people want to duel, duels are usually more drawn out affairs where its about chipping away at people's max regen HP through getting through 2-3 attacks. Compare that to HvV 4v4 where its all about blasting the poo poo out of people and chopping them to death asap.

For all the new players since it’s free, here’s a guide to all the trooper star cards and a good YouTube channel for tips about the game mechanics (because there are a lot)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IF3R-j6VrIo

quote:

The passive cards (the top section) are the same for each trooper with one unique passive per class. Of the generic ones, Bodyguard is maybe worth it on the heavy but pretty crap otherwise, Marksman is fantastic if you have a slower firing weapon that you can consistently headshot with, and Bounty Hunter is good if you’re trying to lock down a hero in GA. Pretty much all the other passives are meh: Brawler doesn’t activate frequently enough to justify the slot, Resourceful is too marginal of an increase, Expert Weapons handling is fine but I prefer Marksman if I’m worried about weapon heat. Survivalist is decent I suppose. Of the class specific passive cards; the assault and heavy cards suck and the officer and specialist cards rule.

Now for the active cards. All of the “improves the default grenade” cards are good/great. Assault’s best cards are, hands down, Toughen Up and Smart Ion Grenade. Toughen Up makes your health constantly regenerate even when you’re getting shot, which lets you win a ton of fights simply by being able to duck into cover for half a second and then come back out with full health. Smart Ion Grenades pack more of a punch against players than you’d expect, have generous explosion and trigger radii, and will linger after being thrown like a trip mine for 6-10 seconds. Excellent against droidekas, turrets, heavy/infiltrator personal shields, officer bubbles, vehicles, etc. Upgraded Scan Dart is worth it if you’re not using Toughen Up out of fairness to the enemy team. Acid Launcher suffers from the fundamental problem that you’re replacing your (very good) grenade with what is essentially a grenade that kills people much more slowly while costing a star card slot. All of the Vanguard upgrades are good except the slug. I’ve never seen a single other person use the Flash Pistol ever, it’s the same slot as Toughen Up, and it’s just a pretty weak gun overall. The flash shot does make a very fun sound when you shoot it at least.

The Heavy probably has the best lineup of active star cards, they’re almost all solid. The Combat Shield becomes incredibly thick, which lets you mow down pubbies like a god (though watch out for ion grenades); Barrage is a perfectly fine if unexciting grenade launcher, great for replacing the shield if you want to focus purely on damage output; both Ion gadgets are very good in GA for walkers, fighters, speeders, etc. but essentially useless on infantry only phases (though the turret can work as a specific anti-officer turret tool); Explosive Sentry is hilarious and can be devastating if you have the high ground on them; Supercharged Sentry requires very good accuracy since the duration is so short but is probably the best hero-deleting trooper ability; Detonite Charge is great for booby trapping corners but its incredibly short throw range makes it pretty weak for most other uses; Mobile Sentry is kinda fun but you really notice the lower damage output.

Officer has some of the more interesting and unique ability star cards imho. Improved Battle Command is probably the one I would consider “best” as it’s really hard to beat immediate bonus health for yourself and anyone in front of you, although obviously the Improved Blaster Turret is always excellent. The Squad Shield can be single handedly game winning on GA, but can be a little harder to use effectively in other modes. The timing on Disruptor can be tricky to get a hang of, but once you do it’s an absolute game changer on close quarters maps. Recharge Command and Defuser are both criminally underrated; Defuser is amazing in the ship phase of CS and in GA for any team on offense, while Recharge Command gives your team a massive power boost that stacks with the health buff all your team’s other officers are using. Blast Command is ok, hilarious sometimes, but I find it’s harder for your teammates to take advantage of the ability than just giving them another grenade/shield/toughen up. Homing Shot is literally the worst star card in the game.

Infiltrator probably has the weakest set of ability cards. Personal Shield is the true standout, it’s basically a get out of jail free card that recharges. All of the Infiltration upgrades are pretty good and I think which one’s best comes entirely down to personal preference. Stinger Pistol used to be low-key great but DICE nerfed it because bad pubstomp hero players whined on forums about it until they caved, so now it’s just ok (worth noting that enemies tagged by the pistol are visible to you through walls, and is best used at mid-long range). The Binoculars card only upgrades the spot duration, which is ok but ultimately not worth a card slot. Trip mines are very funny but only work in areas with straight walls, which it turns out are kind of rare in Star Wars. Finally the Repulsor Cannon is super finicky and almost never seems to work right but I’ve been told that they’re apparently useful at knocking down heroes.

If you’re new play the coop mode for a little bit, it’s surprisingly challenging and you get full exp for leveling and unlocking things
