Bird also actually understands the difference between balls and strikes, and I'm also going by the scouting projections where the Yankees apparently love Bird and see him as a 30 HR bat, but there was at least the NYPost report suggesting they're not that high on Adnujar. Andujar is slugging 500 in the majors as a 23 year old rookie.... The people who can't wait to dump him are awfully quick to give up on that. You are probably right about them not being high on him though just based on how they handled 3B coming out of spring training but that doesn't mean they are right or that it's a good idea. They must have 1 cameraman who's job it is to show Lindor clapping and jawing like an idiot after every play. mcmagic fucked around with this message at 02:16 on Jul 15, 2018 |

Andujar has a 120 wRC+ going into tonight so while his pitch recognition (really, his BB%) could certainly get better, he's a positive offensively.

I have a hard time calling what Andujar did on that last play "shoddy D" and not just failing to make a tough play.

Going into the break 4.5 back... Not great. This game was a pretty pathetic offensive performance. They really need Gleyber and Sanchez to come back.

There’s only so much you can do about a team that’s on pace to win 106 games. Boston will come back to earth and it’s on the Yankees to take advantage of this super weak second half schedule

It doesn’t help that the team is approaching about a month now playing .500 baseball (12-11 since sweeping the M’s from June 19-21), mostly against bad teams. That almost perfectly coincides with Sanchez’s injury, though, so getting him back will be great. They do really need to get some starting pitchers before the trade deadline, though. German has pitched worse than Sonny Gray for a couple of months now, but unlike Gray, he doesn’t even have a history of pitching well. Since mid-May: German-52IP, 6.48 ERA; Gray-57IP, 5.15 ERA

German is weird. Like, I'd say he should be a reliever, but he can actually go a few innings. And he's usually really good outside of his fuckups, but when he fucks up, boy. He's honestly been way more impressive than Gray this year. And he's clearly better than the Luis Cessa/Bryan Mitchell/David Hale types. Maybe he could be the new Mendoza? Even though the Yankees apparently still have the magic long man machine humming along with Warren and now Cole being pretty good. It's almost like he's Ricky Nolasco in that he pitches worse than his numbers say he should, but he's honestly not that far off from being a poor man's 2017 Tanaka. Like, I trust him way, way more than I would Happ, who just sucks and I want nowhere near the team.

I feel that German can be a super relief ace like Betances was from 2014-2016. all the stuff is there but the longevity factor isn't, so I feel that if the Yankees add a starter it would probably be for the best for them to move German to the pen so his stuff plays up even more

The couple of swing and misses German got on balls in the dirt several inches outside to righties yesterday were so amazing.

If they trade for a pitcher I would rather see them have German start in AAA than go to the pen. He has 3 major league pitches, there is no reason he can't start going forward.

Frazier was removed from the game today in the 2nd inning because he got concussed again. Couldn’t have come at a worse time with the trade deadline coming up.

I'm fully on the Carlos Martinez train at this point. Yeah he's expensive and he's been Bad™ since coming off the DL but we're in a pennant race, let's roll the dice. Or bring up Lasagna again because how much worse could he be?

Martinez probably has one of the more affordable contacts out there. 5/70 but the last two years are team options at 17M and 18M respectively. Because of that, he would be tough to pry away from St. Louis if they do bottom out and decide to sell. Have to imagine STL starts by asking for Andujar + two topish prospects

Please refer to the Favorite Baseball Players thread for my thoughts on Carlos Martinez. You could offer the entire Yankees farm system and I'd be offended. I love CarMart and never want to see him leave. If the Cardinals do trade him and you mistreat him in any way, my god will I be upset.
