for the past few years, really strange videos started appearing featuring elsa from frozen as well as a host of other recognizable characters like spiderman, the joker, etc in extremely provocative and in nonsense situations. the storylines are usually incomprehensible, and also has recurring motifs of sexual fetishes, injuries, enemas, pregnancies, and crying these videos often have upwards of hundreds of millions of views, few comments, and an almost 50/50 distribution of likes and dislikes. they can range from live action to animation. here's ethan from H3H3 productions breaking one down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBWf6Zvn0jQ these videos are often nightmare fuel, seriously just watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=302&v=uXjJdv5fj5k there are loving THOUSANDS of these kinds of videos with and some with literally half a billion views. it's absolutely insane and they are all targeted to kids, who will have a tablet in front of them and just let autoplay curate for them. these hosed up videos then start playing. some channels even copy the same scenarios with difference characters. for example, there's a motif of kids drinking beer, getting intoxicated, and then injuring themselves. this same scenario is played with mickey mouse, minions, paw patrol, etc. this video goes in more detail: https://youtu.be/qlNKi5etxhk the mainstream is starting to pick up on this because kids are getting exposed to these videos. there are a lot of theories and speculation on what is going on. 1) these videos are grooming children to normalize abusive and strange situations. some videos also have gibberish in the comments, theory is that these is some kind of code 2) this is a form of bot cancer - people have found a way to game youtube's algorithm using key words strings and let AI randomize stock videos to create these. this explains the animated ones but doesn't explain the live action ones, which have to have a director and actors. 3) it's some sort of psyop campaign intended to traumatize young children by introducing weird concepts at a very young age. most of the videos seemed to be created in russia or vietnam. 4) kids are just hosed up and respond well to gross videos. probably likely, and could be combined with #2 to exploit that. anyway, whatever happened, the youtube algorithm and the way our system is designed to create profit from views has created something incredibly hosed up and bizarre. some additional reading as well: https://medium.com/@jamesbridle/something-is-wrong-on-the-internet-c39c471271d2 i went down a rabbit hole with this poo poo, and it's equal parts fascinating and horrifying. the kids section on youtube is far more insidious than anything i've seen on the main site

Pretty sure the reason is a combination of #2 and #4.

There are entire businesses dedicated to creating really hosed up and bizarre kids videos and posting them on youtube. They are posted under thousands of accounts and once a kid clicks one they get caught in web of clicking through for hours. There are also a separate group of people who have built ARGs on top of the video webs in the comments sections or with their own tie in videos.

The main thing is the content of the videos is so hosed up and needs to be removed because of how problematic it is- I'll explain... In the cartoons, one of the characters is burned with a hot knife, another has their ear cut off, and still more get injured in other ways. The key thing here is the situation is always remedied by simply wrapping a bandage on the severed ear, or putting cream on a burn. If a young child took this to heart and figured the solution is simple and trouble free to such a "prank" (and these acts of violence are always framed as harmless mischief), that is a problem. The actual aftermath of such a monkey-see monkey-do injury from these videos would be difficult and costly. I haven't forgotten about the Road Runner, the difference between cartoon violence and cartoon violence is that these Youtubes are almost instructional in how to inflict these very real injuries with implements that are within their grasp as opposed to sending in a mail order to ACME for an anvil.
