Manchild King posted:Perhaps not equally harmful. But if you really think this is good content for a toddler to watch. I didn't say it was "good" content for a toddler to watch, I just can't imagine a toddler being significantly affected by seeing one of these videos. Worst case scenario is the kid gets confused and starts crying - most likely scenario is it just keeps staring at the screen in silence because it doesn't understand what's going on and is just mesmerized by the colors and noises. I mean we're talking little toddlers here, they're not going to lose sleep contemplating man's inhumanity to spider-man. Funky See Funky Do posted:A healthy kid isn't going to be exposed to much of this in the first place because they'll have parents that don't babysit with youtube. I don't know exactly what the effects of a toddler spending multiple hours a day watching these bizarre videos with minimal actual human interaction will be but I'd bet a lot of money it's nothing good. I don't think there's any good outcome to a small child being neglected. I don't think adding or taking away these videos is going to make a huge difference to that.

Lol yeah, human trafficker use YouTube videos with 500 mio views as a secret message board. You know, instead of Telegram, encrypted email or an actual TOR forum. I'm not sure why these hosed up videos are supposed to be any more damaging to kids than any other crap on YouTube. It feels like a moral panic. There is zero evidence that images of needles or piss will gently caress up a child's mind (There is nothing wrong with piss in general. Just ask the President of the United States of America) Also, if you use random videos on YouTube to raise your kids, instead of the responsible choice of TV, it's your own fault. There are probably 10 mio ways to set up a curated kids playlist with semi-education stuff like Sesame Street or Teletubbies on YT Also², these animated videos look like you can throw them together in half an hour in something like Unity without needing any skills. Making these probably pays off if you are located in India and get more than $10 ad revenue per video, which explains why there are so many of them.

Yeah it's just outsourced stuff churned out by east asian animation sweatshops. Whoever is commissioning them is just collecting popular keywords and then giving those keywords to the animators and saying 'make something with Spiderman and Elsa that fits with these keywords.' So, for whatever reason 'needle' is one of the popular keywords, so the animators add some weird scene with a needle because that's all the context they're ever given. A list of keywords and a list of characters. I find it very hard to believe that some of the conspiracy theories over on r/Elsagate are true, like it's all a massive pedo ring grooming children en masse, or a Russian psyop aiming to somehow destabilize and traumatize the next generation of Western kids. Where it gets weirder is the live action channels with actual kids - I haven't actually watched any of those channels that get linked on that subreddit because I value my sanity and I also don't want to get put on some sort of watchlist, but if they're doing the same thing (collecting keywords and then simply making videos with their kids vaguely related to those keywords) then that is just supremely strange. Also, a lot of the weird comments can be explained by kids just mashing the phone/tablet by accident. The fact that some of them seem to be actual words, or turn into actual words if you correlate the keys pressed into other language keyboards, can probably be explained by predictive text.

They're buying cheap or getting free sound effects packs, and just using random clips from them. Because they're in Thailand or India or wherever, they likely don't understand the content of the clips - they're just shoving random ones in to get around Youtube's copyright system. I know it's fun to think that this is all some deep and weird conspiracy theory, but it's just low effort gaming of keywords algorithms to make easy and quick money from outsourced content. If the rationale behind these videos is to get the Russian populous to question the integrity of western society and western ethics It would explain the scary similarities in art style between channels as well as the fact most of these videos are in fact russian. The subreddit is pretty interesting, perhaps more so than the videos themselves, because it’s filled with people overanalyzing this stuff and projecting all kinds of fears onto it. It’s really quite a rabbit hole. twoday fucked around with this message at 13:38 on Nov 19, 2017 |

Otherwise there is no reason to assume that this somehow "fucks up" their mind. The burden of proof lies on someone making the claim. There isn't even a plausible mechanism how this could happen. btw, I'm not defending this crap in any way. In a perfect world kids would be red a book, play with other kids, draw, etc. instead of this. I'm just not sure why this is supposed to be any worse than Teletubbies, except for moral panic

Youtube obviously shouldn't be using the same sequencing algorithm in the kids section that they use in the rest of the website and as a society we should not allow blind virtual intelligence to choose what our children watch. It would make sense for Youtube to fix this problem this sooner than later so that stupid parents don't infect their kid's minds with neverending troves of nonsensical garbage and inadvertently make the next generation of zombies.

But when television is bad, nothing is worse. I invite each of you to sit down in front of your own television set when your station goes on the air and stay there, for a day, without a book, without a magazine, without a newspaper, without a profit and loss sheet or a rating book to distract you. Keep your eyes glued to that set until the station signs off. I can assure you that what you will observe is a vast wasteland. You will see a procession of game shows, formula comedies about totally unbelievable families, blood and thunder, mayhem, violence, sadism, murder, western bad men, western good men, private eyes, gangsters, more violence, and cartoons. And endlessly commercials — many screaming, cajoling, and offending. And most of all, boredom. True, you'll see a few things you will enjoy. But they will be very, very few. And if you think I exaggerate, I only ask you to try it.” -Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman Newton N. Minow (1961)

Impressionable isn't the right term but I can't imagine some kids not remembering or being weirded out by this. Accidentally seeing a kitten stomp and porn video really messed with me as a kid and I can not be the only sensitive baby I can NOT. I am not that big a loser..... Maybe creepy crazy gem tooth removal game Elsa heel stomping Spiderman to piss or abuse dad isn't very weird to most people but I have a different thought on that, I am not a fan. I will sit over here clutching my pearls scared of the dark, yes.

Yeah when I found out these were a thing I just figured there was some production company in a 3rd world shithole churning these fuckers out constantly because it pays way more than taking a normal job there. The violence and content is easily explained by the idea that the person making these probably had some paramilitary dude force him to shoot his parents or something so in context the videos probably seem tame to him. I think it speaks alot to the reddit people's knowledge of the world that they've arrived at the conclusion that its some bizarre psyops AI procedurally generated content instead of a group of smart people in a third world shithole who figured out how to game a lovely algorithm. I'm sure even the comments was just them figuring out that they're part of getting recommended so they just hired some bots to comment on the channels.
