other thing to consider: the new TI DLP projector engines can emulate 4K decently to the point where it might as well be native. OLED is obviously going to still stomp it on black levels, but Optoma has a 4K projector for like $1800, so if you’ve got a bigass blank wall you should get a projector instead

holy crap i think someone who moved out of my apartment building left behind a cool rear end 55" philips tv with ambilight in the basement. its a christmas miracle sadly it weighs 25 kg and im a low-t twink if its still there in 2-3 weeks ill figure out a way to drag it to my apartment in the 3rd floor with no lift

whats the best tech for good contrast / true blacks at the moment? My old 50" bedroom tv is perfectly serviceable except its like 6 years old and has two backlights to the sides, and any dark scenes are basically grey mush. also projectors are cool & good if you have the room - i have a short-throw 1080p unit that gives me a 10ft diagonal picture in the front room and a pull-down screen I picked up super cheap.
