A death beacon had been lit across the Wreckers' maps, announcing the death of Hievel, Rook's Hiver-geneline representative. How broken up is Sh'Bang over Hievel's death?: 1d10 3 - Miss! Sh'Bang is not grievously affected! "Oh man," Sh'Bang cooed, her schadenfreude plain, "a Desolate Gunman just splattered Rook's bee-man, Hievel! That's so rough! Like, I know my brother knew him from back in Dark so I guess he was cool. But still, those Anti-Materiel Rifle rounds hurt like a bee-otch, don't they? How sad! I'll bet my brother Skipp is really worked up over this right now... Hey bro - I'm so sorry that your Wrecker-friend died! I wasn't anywhere near it when it happened so you can't blame me on that front! I'll bet he was a good Hiver-person, really!" Sh'Bang considered the insincerity of the words she'd just spoken and tried to temper her apparent lack of empathy with a clichéd platitude to cap it off. "Why - like - why do the good ones have to die so young?" Sh'Bang sighed, a concerned pout plastered on her face. She was thinking of Grejja again. Seated safely inside the cozy cockpit of the Desolate Gunman, Sh'Bang flipped through the photo-feed her CSSC had auto-snapped on her Comms device, attempting to see if she could find any good angles with her or Grejja in them. She stumbled upon an image that might be worth a little extra Challenge luxe for her and her Exclusive Sponsor - Necrotech Post-Mortality Vitality Systems - so she dutifully sent it off. Bonus: Sh'Bang uploads a photo she'd taken of the Strato Cradle, from when she and Grejja were still together. She sends it to H.R.R.S. for their Geographic National Outsourcing Challenge! (+5) Stev rested his head in his hands. He'd done what he could--which wasn't much, given the circumstances, but it had been something at least. A chance at freedom, even if Rook hadn't granted Hievel the capacity to understand what that even meant. He wasn't the first Hiver to die--there was a certain level of risk involved in living on Io, even with all the work Stev had put in to adapt the Hive. He wasn't even the first Hiver to die on Wrecking Crew--although come to think of it, Zinore had been another one of Rook's, hadn't he. But the dumb potato of a man had had his charm, and Stev regretted his loss. But there were practical concerns that Stev had to consider as well as emotional ones. He'd seen Hievel's death on the screen, but he hadn't felt it. Not like last time. Whether by luck or by sheer weight of iterations, Rook had cracked the code. He wasn't going to be connected to the future Hivers they churned out. And that meant that they could grow their own hive faster than Io could keep up with--which meant that when that conflict inevitably came to a head, he was going to be in a very, very bad place indeed. Unless he could get that code right back. Taking down Final Rest for the moment to issue a new challenge He Shall Only Know Summer - (+5 Luxe) Transmat Hievel's remains to Io. Do as you please with his personal effects. The Good Stuff - Retrieve Stev's Secret Stash from the Flagged Location. Ingestion not recommended. Very Important Package - Request a Bee Box from the Solar Hive (free of charge, Wrecker must pay drone costs) and deliver it to Von Rinj.

[Sponsor Luxe: 15 -> 0] While he waited for his office's auto-coffee service to arrive, Dr. Skipp Wiley Sr. held his corporate-mandated moment of silence for the recently departed Wrecker, Hievel. Rook BioEngOrg wasn't exactly a business partner of Cosmiq's, but the two conglomerate biotech entities have had plenty of mutually-beneficial market dealings in the past due to their cooperative sponsorship in the Wrecking Crew games. It was only a matter of proper professional etiquette that Dr. Wiley would perform an official token gesture of respect for the competition's fallen Veteran Wrecker. Dr. Wiley muted his Sponsor-tailored holofeed. The holoscreen was displaying nothing more than his daughter Sh'Bang lounging in her idling Beta rig's cockpit while humming off-tune and listlessly scrolling through some pictures she'd taken with her new Comms device. With none of those ambient sounds to distract him further, Dr. Wiley steepled his fingers, bowed his head, and closed his eyes for a moment of silence - for Hievel. The blaring warble of an incoming Comms cut through the nothingness like an arc of lightning through molten butter. Dr. Wiley's eyes snapped open as he sat bolt upright in his omni-chair. "What now?" He asked, rhetorically. In as few words as possible, Dr. Wiley instructed his Comms machinery to field the call so that only he could hear the caller's voice through his earpiece. "Ear-Comm, accept call." "Junior! How are you?" The excitement in Dr. Wiley's voice was genuine. "Have you been watching the games? Sh'Bang's been doing-" The voice on the line cut him off, so he held his tongue. Dr. Wiley replied at the next available opportunity. "Yes, and it's such a shame about that, really. Hievel was an old soul, he really was-" Dr. Wiley paused again, his mood visibly souring as he continued to listen to the person on the phone. After he'd had enough, Dr. Wiley interjected. "Now don't you take that tone with me, young man! I was in the middle of a moment of silence for him, I'll have you know. Besides, it's not my fault your bumbling bee-friend got himself pasted by an Anti-Materiel Rifle at point blank range!" He let the voice raise some inflammatory points before interrupting again in turn. "That's patently ridiculous and you know it. How could she be responsible, anyway? You're not there, Junior - remember? It's none of your business what goes on in Tomb, just so long as your sister lives." Dr. Wiley's eyes narrowed at what he heard. "Now you take that back! You're just upset your friend got himself killed in the season you weren't returning. We all experience a loss like Hievel's differently..." "What do you mean 'What can I do about it?' I can't reverse time, Junior, if that's what you're asking. I can only nudge things so far in the field, add incentives here and there. You know that." Dr. Wiley listened closely to the voice on the line. As he did so, the Caffématic wordlessly pushed its way through the office door and rolled itself next to Dr. Wiley's desk, priming itself to serve some piping hot caffeinated beverages. "Fine - I can try that." Dr. Wiley said, waving the auto-coffee over. "Maybe Necrotech or I.P.C. might be receptive to deploying more of their new Experimental tech. And?" The voice on the line made another detailed request as the coffee-serving robot squirted out several pumps of coffee, creamer, and artificial sweetening agents into Dr. Wiley's mug. As Dr. Wiley listened, he switched from nodding his head along to shaking it in disbelief. He scratched at the back of his neck and gave an honest assessment. "That one... might be a little more difficult, Junior. No promises." Once Dr. Skipp Wiley Sr. had finished talking things over with his son, he submitted the official Wrecking Crew paperwork needed to clear out two of Cosmiq's less-popular Challenges. He needed to make room for a pair of new Challenges centered around catering to his son's special interests. When that was done, he made an alteration to the requirements for an already-existing challenge. COSMIQ SURVIVAL CHALLENGES (1-10 of 10):

Von Rinj saw no shock, no reaction of any kind as it was swept off him and into the wall with a crunch audible even without his augments working. A storm of shrapnel washes over Von Rinj, pinging madly off plating and leaving a shallow cut just under his good eye. Energy crackles on some subsystem damaged by the blast. His systems finish rebooting and he turns to survey the effects of the bombardment. The devastation penetrated the dimensional barrier. Interesting. A gift from on high, considering his previous circumstances. Tiny abominations are chewing their way free of the broken corpse against the wall. Disgusting. In a corner the last of the mutants is cowering. Von Rinj will deal with it in time. Now though he receives a transmission. Ah the infamous hunter. Judge Oculus stares at a large eight-by-eight board suspended above a massive churning pit full of dough. Two of the squares light up in sequence and a man in a flimsy PAFer costume charges forward with some sort of weed whacker, bifurcating their target. "Umm... boss." The board spins 180 degrees, causing several of the pieces near the edges to stumble, tendrils extending from the pit below to flail at them. "Why do you distrub my contemplation cycle Speaker?" "The purifier page won our RADICAL contest. I tried arranging for the EXTREME luxe to be delivered directly so that we could insert a nanophage, but WC has us locked into digital payouts." Two more squares light up and a piece wearing a Crux costume slowly advances in a straight line, dragging a comically-oversized mallet. "And?" The mallet's target stands still only a short while before fleeing out of their square, trying to hide behind the other pieces which studiously ignore them. "Our BODACIOUS secondary market analytics node is prophesizing that this will be seen as an endorsement, reducing our sales to GNARLY nonstandard genotypes by 2-6%." "A necessary sacrifice. All markets must be tapped. Even the purifiers shall fall under the sway of our Brands in time. It is inevitable." The board rotates again. She had something to take care of first. Seated within the DoppleHawk-241's Beta cockpit, Sh'Bang toggled several display switches and surveyed the rig console's resulting readouts. Once she'd taken everything of value that she could see, she walked over to Felix, who was sitting next to a delivery drone with her Optiscope inside, and gave him half of the rescued components. "Hey, kitty, you did real good there. You are the bestest most murderous kitty I ever met, and such a cutie too!" Galaxploitation Media 5L -> 0 > INCOMING MESSAGE < We'd like to thank Lucky Ted for hacking a gate open and would love to award him for it but unfortunately real hacking is dull and doesn't look anything like the exciting hacking scenes in the movies. We do appreciate footage of the gate opening and will attempt to reward Ted should we lose our limited status (void if Ted is responsible for that). > END MESSAGE < ___________________ Shay D. was furious at the rate hike. How was a semi-honest company supposed to turn a profit when these clowns were driving up shipping costs? Something had to be done. Sh'bang eyes gleamed with predatorial glee, "Ah, there you are, my little Gamma friend! Just as expected... now, if you would be so kind - just a little bit closer..!" Sh'Bang bit her lip, holding her breath in anticipation of the long-awaited shot that was to come. When the Haunted Enforcer stepped in position, Sh'bang flicked on a panel full of switches, remotely activating the cordon of perimeter lights she'd set up around her ambush site. The Haunted Enforcer was bathed in the flat warm glow of the ambient lights, caught in its tracks with apparent confusion. Sh'Bang took a picture of the D-active Gamma Enforcer, taking a shot that struck the rig from the front-on with a "deer in headlights" look to its mechanical face. The resulting picture was sent from Sh'Bang's CSSC to the Academy of Titan, for their own particular research purposes: "Perfect, you're a star, darling!" Sh'Bang crooned. "And now for the coupe de gracie!" Sh'Bang flipped the activator toggle on her Desolate Gunman's primary armament and took aim at the Haunted enforcer's head-sensors, lining up her trajectory reticules as the Gamma rig blundered around in the bright lights, searching for the nearest threat to shoot at. Before Sh'Bang could squeeze the Gunman's trigger to fire a killing blow, the ground began to shake. Sh'Bang's trajectory-aiming sensors were thrown wildly off target. Various perimeter lights fell off their stands and tumbled to the ground, throwing shadows everywhere. "Whoa~! Moonquake!" Sh'Bang braced herself and held on to the insides of her rig's cockpit. Nestled within the Dopplehawk-241, lying down in a sniper's position without anything overhead, she couldn't be in a safer place during a moonquake... But it was no mere moonquake. As soon as the ground's intense vibratory crescendo reached its climax, a gigantic Imbrium Wurm burst forth from the ground, breaching the surface of the topsoil like the great whales of yore. Sh'Bang realized with the sharp tang of panic coursing through her system that she was no longer the big fishy in this little lunar pond. "Whew - that's a big one! Hm~! Should I stay or should I go? What do you think, Gladys?" Sh'Bang looked over to the Moon Mummy that still was tucked away in her ambush site and zoomed in on the corpse - it'd fallen over from all the shaking. "Put yourself together, Gladys, we have company!" Sh'Bang scolded the Beta Pilot's tumbled, mummified remains before getting ahold of herself. "I should go. Duty calls! Sorry to jet, ladies and gents, but I've got a dead friend to pick up (Not you, Gladys. I'll have to catch up with you later. Hold down the fort while I'm gone.)!" Sh'Bang cranked up the DoppleHawk's full mobility suite and got to running. Aethelred was leaning forward, looking over footage from Sh'bang's POVcam and the various camdrones flitting around her. He forwarded the footage to the research and development departments most likely to be interested, which was most of them. "It sure looks nasty, Your PAFness. Definitely not something you want to throw down with solo." Stormy replied, twirling a pigtail lock around her finger, the other idly spinning and holstering and unholstering one of her Pompom revolvers. "I'd be interested in seeing how it's adapted to a near-zero atmospheric environment. I might have some special work for you and the other girls on the team if it doesn't get rekt during the show. That said, I should probably incentivise a capture slash kill and exfiltration order on it while we have expendable assets down there, though they're proving a little less apt to chase special challenges this map and this one's going to require some teamwork." "You could always toss in an after-map shindig with the Pertinax Encouragement Operations Squad, we know how to party. Don't we sis?" Stormy grinned "We sure do sis" replied Misty. "Can I go?" asked the hopeful voice of everyone's favourite swab, 58262-K-G33, known the Decree over as Gee after his sudden appearance as a proxy sponsorship liaison during Dark. Apparently there was still some marketability in his presence and likeness among the working class. "We'll see..." "Yay!" - [HP: 3/3] Hat HP: 3/3 Move: 3 Augs: 1/3 Cyber (Jacklegz©), 0/2 Mutant Luxe In Hand: 20 Hat had to admit, she was disappointed. She was hoping for a cosy pub, an affable and knowledgeable bartender, a fine selection of drinks from ales to spirits, someone on a strange instrument playing a haunting moon-tune, maybe an old codger nursing a pint willing to play a few games of Döminöes. A place to relax, and forget about your worries, and the insane bloodsport competition you'd found yourself in. The reality was stark: an drink-dispensing contraption and a scattered collection of tables and chairs. Even worse? The machine had a queue. As Felix made himself comfortable on top of the machine, Hat read what passed for a menu. "Mare Campari", self-explanatory. "Blue Moon", looks like a gin drink made with something blue or violet. "Apollo 181", the Wreckterminal just returned pictures of Luxe. Unable to decide just what to choose right now, Hat tried to strike up a conversation with one of the Teeming Spectres. "Hey, so, uh...," she gestured at the menu. "...What's good?" Boost.

[Sponsor Luxe: 0] A flashing violet warning beacon lit up and splashed across Dr. Wiley's Sponsor console. Those honey-addled semi-sapient fools at the Norilsk Union of Independent Ursine Tribes (a subsidiary wholly owned by IPC LLC) had gone and made the same mistake that Pertinax Ammofab had committed to back in Drop: they'd up and purchased an authorization token to gain temporary access to an experimental delivery system known as RealityShift®. No one really knew how the unfathomable D-systems worked, they could only ascertain that the potential savings in supply shipments alone could be absolutely astronomical, with only minor risk of bodily harm. A lot of essentials and helpful devices could sent along to Sh'Bang on the cheap if she acted fast and played her cards right. For that reason alone, it was absolutely essential for Sh'Bang to get as much as she could out of this one-time Wrecksgiving cornucopia from the Ursine Tribes - that meant generating as much luxe for Sh'Bang as quickly as possible! Dr. Wiley had dutifully scanned over the available Wrecker challenges and spotted one that even he could complete, in a fashion. "Well, if no one else is going jump at the obvious luxe dangling in front of them, I may as well see if this promo material qualifies, see if I can't get Sh'Bang some last-minute spending luxe courtesy of GEN." Bonus: Dr. Wiley uploads a poster designed to promote Wrecking Crew's cast for the season of Tomb. He sends it along to GEN (on behalf of Cosmiq's active Wrecker, Sh'Bang) in order to complete their Challenge: That Is Trend!

The fabrikit dinged, indicating it had been mollified by the attention paid to it and was available to use for repairs.
