Dr. Seuss is kinda strange for propaganda, because he was making some specifically anti-racism cartoons while making anti-Japanese cartoons that were really racist

Perhaps capitalism forced him to produce art for the benefit of different markets in order to survive.

he was one of the most visible critics of isolationism in the run-up to WW2

but he also made those horrifically racist anti-japanese cartoons because wartime propagandists gotta toe the line. fwiw i'm pretty sure he deeply regretted the japanese stuff later in life

edit: he regretted it about a decade later and Horton Hears A Who was his apology. you learn something new every day

We're not much different today. There are plenty of films out there with heroic and admirable African Americans or women - usually serving some role in the military or law enforcement - yet who are fighting incredibly one dimensional racist stereotypes of middle eastern people. Anti-racist messages can very comfortable exist nestled within an overarchingly racist or xenophobic worldview, especially in America where racial equality often amounts to an equal opportunity for all American citizens to share in the proceeds (and responsibilities) of plundering the wealth of the rest of the planet.

Wow, that's pretty cool!

I was looking at a few trying to find thread-suitable ones and Seuss was admirably up front about the holocaust too

While the American Public heard and recognized the holocaust as a thing, I get the impression they didn't realize the full scale of it until the Adolf Eichmann trial and the release of a movie about the holocaust in the late 1950s

Jugoslavia was the old way of spelling it, and Jugo Slavia directly renders as something like "The southern land of the Slavs" in Croatian. I don't think it was written with the Y until the late 40s? Not sure.

Even before the internet, people commissioned characters doing very specific fetishes to multiple artists.
