chappelle had a second special released on the 31st that goes into details about what he meant. he made some jokes about caitlyn jenner and essentially said the only reason that she made the news at all was her previous status as a white man. had jenner just been another field working minority, everyone would have just said “that’s nice, but we still need to pick these strawberries” (this is chappelle’s argument and poorly quoted jokes not my own opinion) his entire point was that black people and other minorities (including trans poc) are still poo poo on to an extreme degree and the battle for equality is far from over.

i dont think the implication is that attention is too quick or wrong, but more to say the fight is long from over for any equality. he’s pretty aware of his own status and self-deprecating about it. you may have turned it off before getting to some of his comments, but he flat out acknowledges that trans people have it the hardest in the world and he feels for anyone going through transitioning. i’ll see if i can get a direct timestamp or quote if you’re interested. edit: definitely not trying to start an argument or anything. just offering my (obviously biased) perspective that nothing he said came off particularly anti-trans. he makes dumb jokes but acknowledges realities of the situation. that was last week. i just read through the decision and it's a mess. the rundown as i can tell is cis-woman was shocked to find a amab woman (please if i'm wrong correct me i'm not deliberately trying to use incorrect terminology) in the locker room and complained. planet fitness told her that there was and unwritten policy that people use whatever locker room corresponds to their gender identity. rather than quit the gym, she then just started transphobic rumors and generally starting poo poo. pf canceled her membership. the court denied her suit entirely and she appealed, the supreme court affirmed, it got kicked back down and appealed again. the supreme court affirmed all but one section. the issue at hand is does planet fitness' unwritten policy violate the state's statute against "Unfair, unconscionable, or deceptive methods, acts, or practices in the conduct of trade or commerce" pf's policy is unwritten and is not directly disclosed. this case would be complete mooted if it was written and disclosed (which is dumb as gently caress, but that's the state of the law). they didn't make a dispositive ruling, but rather kicked it back down to the trial court to make a determination if pf violated these portions of the statute by not disclosing the unwritten policy prior to her joining. quote:(s) Failing to reveal a material fact, the omission of which tends to mislead or deceive the consumer, and which fact could not reasonably be known by the consumer. so yeah, it's a lovely ruling all in all, but it's not the end of the case. the trial court could easily make a ruling that this policy is not a material fact. this is really where the action will happen. right now this is mostly procedural stuff, but still lovely in a general sense. here's a direct link http://publicdocs.courts.mi.gov/OPINIONS/FINAL/COA/20180726_C331286_83_331286O.OPN.PDF
