We might take a closer look at her when we head out for our next mission, though we're still always going to stick with our own crew as she has no dialogue during missions. As per her own words, she's "not the chatty type." As a nice touch, hiring her at least once before talking to her for the first time changes the introduction slightly to reflect that you've met but haven't gotten the chance to talk.  Yeah, I know who you are.[She takes a drag on her cigarette.] How you holdin' up, champ? I heard what happened to your boss. She wasn't just my boss, she was a friend. But it happens. Running the shadows is a dangerous line of work.[She smirks, then lets the smoke escape from the corner of her mouth.] Don't I know it. So... you need something? Did she really make herself a leader, or did her charisma and skill at dealing with the Flux ultimately land her in a position where people with no one else to turn to naturally started relying on her? [Lucky Strike taps out her cigarette and leans forward, a predatory grin on her face.] You and your friends, you followed Monika, too. Obeyed her orders without question. Right? Not without question, but she was our team leader. Of course we listened to her. I've got a news flash for you, friend. Here in Berlin, teams don't *have* leaders. The very *idea* of a team leader runs counter to the spirit of this place. For such a rabid anarchist, your friend seemed awfully comfortable being in power. Kind of a contradiction in terms, don't you think?That seems a little extreme in a profession like shadowrunning, but otherwise she's not entirely wrong - Monika did certainly enjoy a position of some power and influence while simultaneously advocating against the concept. However while Lucky Strike sees it as a sign of hypocrisy, another strong possibility is that Monika herself didn't even realize just how critical her role had gradually become over time. Or maybe she did but by then it was too late to back down. We'll probably never for sure. Either way we've seen some signs that the conflict between her personality and her position may have left her incapable or unwilling of making decisions which ran counter to her beliefs, even when such decisions would've been warranted. A devoted anarchist in a position of control and authority is a bit of a paradox, and at the very least an imperfect match. Yes, actually. All your points are valid.Maybe not all of them, but this is the only choice which allows this conversation to keep going a bit longer so... what can ya do. [She blinks.] Huh. "Big heads" should be a debug_mode option. For the shotgun Orc shaman request from earlier: Standard hybrid build approach like Gun/Decker. Maybe a bit more karma intensive depending on skill selection. Even spread between Quickness and Charisma. I would decide if you want all the spells (Charisma 8) or the biggest gun (Quickness 8). Intelligence 3 makes Orc talk smart. Biotech 2 is always nice for looking at the enemy hp numbers. You wont have the points for all Charisma skills (Conjuring, Spirit Summoning and Spirit Control). Option A: You would focus on shaman spells with conjuring and put up barriers against melee dudes and waste turns to haste youself or others before charging in with your shotgun. Option B: You are some kind of ranger and dabble in spirits (pets). Summoned spirits cost 1AP upkeep, so you are kind of slow and can only use 1AP skills with a summon. But spirits are are sturdy meat shields and come with some nice spells at higher levels.

So since you've used the console to enable Big Head Mode, I feel like pointing out that I can't play these games without the console anymore ever since I learned that you can speed up the movement speed of all characters using it. Why this is buried in the console commands and not just a regular option is a mystery for the ages.

Yeah, Further research showed that she is likely Filipino, but not because of Maliit (that can be a Greek name), but Holyey which is a Filipino based word. Unless it's a corruption of Holley, but that's just guessing. So yeah, probably Filipino. As for your argument as to why it's not Nordic...yeah sure, ok. That information is just based on quick research, and I'll happily admit I'm not an expert on such things. I do know that Maliit can be a Greek name however, because I know a person named Maliit who is (as you likely guessed) of Greek descent. edit - just looked in my contact info book...friend's name is spelled with one i (Malit). It's true that the Kreuzbasar is in a predicament now as a direct result of Monika's actions and position, but without those actions and position there might not even be a Kreuzbasar anymore by this point which the majority of its residents would probably agree to be even less preferable. They can't really afford to go at it purely from an ideological standpoint like Lucky Strike who doesn't live there and who, as a successful shadowrunner, is in the very privileged position where she can easily just head elsewhere if one community or other suddenly stops existing. I'm not saying I disagree, because anarchism is a dumb way of running anything, but when you get right down to it, she is correct: want it or no, Monika did make herself the "queen of the Kreuzbasaar," for all that it's mockingly phrased, and their little island of stability is only threatening to crash down even harder for having handed off the responsibility of dealing with their problems to someone else to the point where they can't do it on their own anymore. The game makes an (in my opinion) pretty interesting point of drawing attention to it, too, but I'm not sure I can really comment on that at this point without spoiling stuff.

It's catching a fish for someone versus teaching them how to do it themselves. For a proper autonymous state, all parts must be equally capable and, honestly, for whatever reason, they were not. Monika was a crutch and now that said crutch is gone, everything's falling back into a situation that it would have been in if she'd never shown up.

There's a reason historically anarchy ends up being, at best, a temporary state of affairs. Not everyone is capable or is necessarily allowed in this egalitarian utopia from participating fully in decision making and we've met quite a few denizens who wouldn't be functional without someone looking over them. Pinning this on Monika is really a damning indictment of the system they've put in place and no amount of rhetoric makes up for it.

But that's precisely why Lucky Strike's there, to provide that cold and detached Flux viewpoint which pretty much nobody else shares (at least to quite the same degree) because they obviously have vested interest in the ongoing existence and stability of their community. In any case, seeing people's different thoughts on the matter is interesting, but let's all make sure we keep it civil and don't get unnecessarily heated up about the subject. We're not going to make this an argument about governance in the real world because that's guaranteed to get out of hand, so please stick to Dragonfall and Shadowun to the best of your ability.

uh, no, i provided an unsubstantiated claim about the history of anarchist experiments in this, our world statements like "anarchy inherently is a bad way to organise things because human nature, thence the failure of attempted anarchist societies in history" isn't really being fair to the ideology, because those attempts have not generally had the opportunity to be failures on their own terms - the flux-state is an attempt at showing what something like it might look like in the world of shadowrun. as we'll see, it's pretty complicated, but i would like to note that people like monika or samuel showing up and doing things for their communities is featured much more heavily in dragonfal than in hong kong or DMS - even someone as shady as altug has a more benign side to his character

part of the Thing of a setting like shadowrun is that, while life might not be materially deprived, it's existentially and morally horrible. so, while you might be able to pull home a decent wage at the torture farm, you have to work there every day, you have no say in how the torture farm does its business and you can never, ever leave. this basically reduces people to cynical, soulless husks barely recognisable as human in berlin, the material side is much more insecure, but you can actually choose what you want to do (within the bounds of the possible) and communities will tend to band together and pull more or less as one. it's basically the one place in this world where people are allowed to be actual people, though at the cost of lawlessness and life being more of a genuine struggle. still, at least it's interesting

I always read lucky strike here like kreia on nar shadda in kotor 2. By solving people's problems for them Monika deprives the locals of the strength gained from surrounding the obstacle. She gets stronger while making them effectively weaker. Of course half of the bazaar is dead with no intervention and weaker beats dead so...
