I'm excited for both the legitimate uses of this and the two immediate consequences: people being beaten up while trying to sell pokemon in person, and a bot teleporting to your house to trade you the farfetch'd you just bought on ebay

Stat randomization gets less and less the closer you are a friend with someone, so people with multis can still trade all of their good poo poo to one account and not take too much of a hit, it would seem.

We actually have a pretty even split here (judging by the legendary raids I’ve done) but my problem has been that me and my girlfriend both downloaded the game on day one and I went blue and she went red, and we’ve been wanting for one of us to be able to switch ever since. Seems like it should be easy but no indication of it ever happening.

I'd rather be able to topple all of the perpetually blue poo poo around here and get my Pokemon/coins back from gyms more regularly. There's just too many blue team people in my area.

flatluigi posted:wait if stats are randomized if you trade with non-friends can't you trade low stat/high rarity pokemon away and back to try to reroll into something better? It's randomized within a range defined by your Friendship Level or something so I expect it can only go down over time, not up. I'm sure silph road will figure it out but I read it as the max IV it could trade at is the current IV, and it might (probably will) roll lower. At which point that's the new max for a second trade, etc. basically I expect a bunch of 0 IV regionals to be passed around for dex completion and then nobody will use this feature.

I'm sad the distance based bonus candy maxes out at 100km, I would have made bank trading my assorted collection of New Zealand caught mons with my Montreal raiding group. I wonder how much candy it'll give? 1 per km would be fun but I somehow doubt that...

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/pokemon-go-update-adds-trading-andfriends-system-s/1100-6459866/ This confirms that trading can improve IVs. If the non-special trading is reasonably cheap I can see trying to roll some high level, bad iv pokemons into better versions by trading it back and forth until its good.

On one hand, finally. On the other, we could just have more Farfetch style catch events to spread out regionals and everyone would be cool. There's already people on my Facebook and Reddit feeds offering money for certain shinies and legendaries.

all i care about is getting my na regional dex done, meaning i need latios, latias and unown. i won't even keep any of them since none are useful. i'll prolly end up with some other non-na pokemon though since i am in college. i've already seen mr. mime, kangaskhan, heracross, corsola, lunatone and volbeat in gyms and people are already making plans to pass all of them along. I feel like each community should find one super obssessed high level person to act as a trader. It's gonna be real costly to trade a bunch of stuff for Dex entries to random people, but if a hundred people all get 30+ day friendship with one person, they can pass through for cheap

Do unowns count as legendaries? I was planning on just doing an immediate traceback, but that might be impossible. Guess the silph road can finally fulfill their stated purpose.

Beachcomber posted:Do unowns count as legendaries? I was planning on just doing an immediate traceback, but that might be impossible. No, but if the person you're trading to doesn't have one it will still be counted as a special trade(legendaries/shinies/dex entries) so can only be done once a day. I doubt they'll make it as specific as every letter is unique. Community day was pretty great. Caught about 150 larvitar on both accounts, both accounts got 5 shiny and both got 4 91+ iv larvs(notable mostly only because my alt is lvl 29 so the IV's are random). Did anyone else see that privacy policy release? That sure was... Something. I hope one of the sites does a breakdown of its implications.

kensei posted:What is Lapras good for anymore, besides the dex entry? Honestly asking, I have not cared about catching it since they were massively nerfed. I like using Lapras a lot because it's a good mix of survivability and being in the upper crust of what ice Pokemon are available right now despite that nerf. There's some harder attackers, but they have less CP and are more glass cannon-y. I'm probably just biased because I like Lapras as a Pokemon though. I dunno what else people use to kill dragons but I always whip out my best bud Lapras and ice them to death.

" With our new knowledge that the probability of receiving a shiny Pokémon from an eligible wild encounter is roughly 0.222%, or 1 shiny in every 450 encounters, we can extrapolate that a traveler has an 80% chance of receiving a shiny Pokémon after engaging approximately 725potentially shiny encounters." On the surface that's perfectly fine as shinies SHOULD be rare, with the exceptions being events where they adjust the probability. I know people are insane over shinies and get bent out of shape when they don't get one but that's the point.

There are ways to increase the odds these days, but farming for shinies is still a major PITA. Edit: I fail at Pokémon and fractions. Yes, people put on Twitch streams just for shiny searching and sometimes encounters can get up in the thousands before they get what they want. The probability for some of them can be insane.
