The kanto event wasn't very good for it because it limited the available dittos. It should be a little easier now.

Ugh tell me about it, hell it was bad for the Pidgy Murkrow mission too, it took my wife a week and a half to catch three pidgy's. She refused to drop it and wanted to see how long it would take.

I wouldn't worry about the excellent curve ball stage. I thought it would be tricky for me too, but got it within the same afternoon while churning through the parallel "Use berries to catch 50 Pokemon" quest. Just try curve balls with everything at that point (particularly ones with big hit circles) and luck should take care of it.

I've done it before but I don't think ever on purpose, I was honestly more worried about evolving a Magikarp until the Kanto event and now I've nearly enough candy for two Gyardos.

Other people can inform you of ones they find, that multiplies your chances for each person searching. People report them in the local whatsapp groups here.

Discord here but same difference, the problem I run into is that the group serves a large area, and I live and work in an area that hardly anyone reports on. But you're right, I should be checking it more especially now that the Kanto event is over, the Ditto channel was all but dead last week.

Easier to list what hasn't changed, which is "nothing".

The game has more meat on its bones now, though it's a bit threadbare still.

Gyms work completely differently now, with a heavy focus on making sure everybody can earn pokecoins not just high level spoofers, and you can spin them for items now too like pokestops. There's a heavier focus on cooperative gameplay with the introduction of raid bosses, rare Pokemon that often have to be battled by multiple players for a chance to catch them. Research quests give you items and rare Pokemon for doing what you were probably already doing in the game anyway. A weather system based on your areas actual local reported weather causes certain Pokemon to spawn more frequently and at higher levels than usual based on their type.

Check your Gengars, Dragonites, Gyarados and Omastars to see if they have any strong moves that are no longer obtainable on new Pokemon. If your account has been sitting for a while you might have some useful legacy movesets.

Oh and you can also change moves with TMs, so if your dragonite is stuck with hyper beam or something you can fix that now.

Yeah, double weakness means the attack does x1.96 the damage. STAB also adds a 1.2 modifier as well. Prior to the gym rework STAB was a higher modifier and super effective attacks was at a lower one. Double resistance does 0.71 damage, making someone like Dragonite good against a boss that uses solar beam.

Apparently there has been some huge spoofer banwave targeting IOS spoofers (which have been safe so far). Lots of funny spoofer tears and internet drama.

They have done really well lately with the security/anticheat side of the game. I miss maps a little but I'm slowly adjusting.

This bigger detection range for unowned pokemon is pretty awesome. I took a 30km tram trip through the city and caught 2 new critters I didn't have before.

I wonder if this can be used further. I have two larvitars that are both pretty lovely. If I transfer both of them maybe I get the detection range bonus for larvitars...

By the way in case anyone cares, I programmed this little tool to show me quickly what weakness which pokemon has, because existing tools on other websites were just a little slow, and some of them even play ads:

Is anything more irritating than a high school neckbeard who says, at every raid, how much using the maps is cheating, but has multiple accounts for gym shaving? Note that the rear end in a top hat didn't think maps were cheating enough not to go to the raids found by the maps.

I hope they get back up soon. It's kinda nice not buying passes, but it sucks for trying to do anything for a raid train.

Well, I'm on the Catch A Ditto quest, which really sucks.

I've been playing (casually) since release, and after some quick math, Dittos are a grand total of 0.3% of Mons that I've caught. It's pretty lovely that you can't specifically find them in any way, and it's all about whether the game decides that a specific trash Mon is a Ditto or not. I understand the Great / Excellent throw requirements, because those are actual skill based achievements that you can practice and get better at. Even finding a certain type, like catching 10 Ghosts, you can see them on your radar if you wander around. But Ditto? Nope, just try and catch everything and hope your number comes up. Boooo.

Ditto was only added in 6 months after release so the % chance is a bit higher than those stats would suggest.

It’s not a bug, it will be because an earlier one you turned in had a Pokémon encounter for the reward, but for whatever reason you didn’t catch it at that point. When that happens the encounter hangs around (looking identical to a completed field quest) but reopens the slot for another to be taken. Similarly when you catch the Pokémon it doesn’t count as “completing” it at that point.

I feel like the only people I see having been stuck on the Ditto quest are the ones that hang around my town's Discord channel constantly asking people to report one for them if encountered. That's fine and all and I help post too when I run into one, but they're probably always too late to get to the location because as non-scanning accounts, we have no idea how long they're going to last and if they'll make it or not. Having this paralysis of not trying to hunt more yourself and waiting for reports is probably making this take longer for them.

The thing about a quest like that is that a small amount of players will indeed get hosed by RNG.
If the chance is actually 1%, then every 2500th guy will have to catch 1000 pidgeys, and one out of a billion will have to catch 2000.

Edit: Has anyone already tried hitting a lot of Pokestops while constantly recycling quests to see if they can get the "3 excellent throws for a Larvitar" one?

It didn't work during the Kanto week because it was being overridden, but I'm fairly sure people found that there was an increased chance to get a Ditto when you have the quest for it. I got mine three catches after the event ended, on the first eligible pokemon.
