Whenever he had new baby chicks, we'd take them out to the field behind his house like a little army & help them hunt bugs

I think that is pair of eastern screech owls and their babies. I also think one of the babbies may have fallen off of the bird bath at around a minute and a half. https://youtu.be/ZcI44JywvgA You can hear the whinny of the eastern screech owl all through the video, so I’m guessing there is at least one of another pair nearby, trying to locate its mate. Although that might be the owlettes talking. Another owl tried to get into the bird bath at around 3 minutes I think. That’s a fairly small birdbath. Those owls are, like, 6 inches tall. Until I saw one nightly at my old apartment, I had no clue owls were made that tiny and cute. Bored has a new favorite as of 00:22 on Jun 29, 2020 |

I feel like somebody better go get that hummingbird some sugar water to make up for fooling it with the bright red necklace. Like, sure, maybe it’s a dumb hummingbird (is that what a fledgling hummingbird looks like?), but still, it thought that necklace signaled food.

Juvenile or female, but I'd lean juvenile just because it seems a bit on the fluffy side and generally unsure about the world. I had a hummingbird buzz me the other day because it was hoping the taillights of my car were something delicious. They were not.

My wife has worked with/rehab-ed/trained a lot of cool birbs over the years. Some of these birbs can be seen on old clips the Today show, Letterman, etc during the animal segments with Jack Hanna and Julie Scardina.

I got a kick out of the hummingbirds that ate at my friend’s house. She has hummingbird feeders all around the deck. So anytime you go outside during the day in summer, there will probably be at least 5 hummingbirds buzzing around. They will often buzz up a couple of feet in front of you to give you dirty looks for standing so close to the feeders. And they impatiently wait in line when wasps are getting drink from their preferred spouts, cause they are smart enough to know that wasp venom is bad for them.
