I watched Dune for the first time last night, I've never read the books. It was a messy film and a lot of the time I didn't understand what was going on but I didn't want to turn it off at any point. It was fascinating. I had to go and read a bit of lore on Wikipedia and that made it fall in place a bit more. As for the new film though, I see now Feyd in the cast and that's a shame because I thought Sting/Feyd was one of the best parts of Lynch's film. Someone told me it's meant to be a two-parter and Feyd doesn't show up that much in the first half of the book. But even so, how are they going to cast him as gloriously as in the old film? Just doesn't seem likely to me!

Some parts of the film that made me laugh: Stilgar sounding like Zapp Brannigan when he says Muad'Dibuh Stilgar sounding sassy/flirty when he exlaims "Muad'Dib!" at Paul being able to weird without the device Alia saying "how could this be? He is the Kwisatz Haderach!" when it starts to rain at the end. I'd been so long since that had been mentioned and I was having trouble keeping up with all the words so I thought for a second it was another entirely new concept that hadn't been brought up before at all.

Somehow his Dutch name and his appearance in the movie go perfect together in my mind. By the way, is there a book reason why both he and the Atreides' mentat have bushy eyebrows?

I don't think UBI is necessarily incompatible with Libertarianism if Libertarianism is understood as a specifically American brand of incredibly ignorant Neoliberalism. Both Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek were for it in some form, they realized that the "free to choose" part of their philosophy made no sense without it.
