Guys I figured it out. The Seer is the psychic inhuman guy that Daisy befriended and May fought earlier. He is either reading their minds from quite some distance or he's reading the mind of someone from the previous loop who knows roughly what's going on. Or long shot, it's a revived Virgil, and he knows what's happening because of the Prophecy.

The Seer shouldn't be any of the team he's had in custody for 50 years and broke, because he didn't seem to have any knowledge of the future in the past. If he did he should have removed the stash of SHIELD weapons from the Lighthouse, known who Fitz was, known about the Zephyr on the surface, killed Robin when she was on the Lighthouse, etc.

Cassius could have simply not known the importance of the SHIELD agent he held captive for ~50 years. He only thought to revive them and torture them for info once he knew he was presently dealing with time skipping SHIELD agents from the past (which was after the Fitz reveal).

I really think they are stuck in a time loop and the next pod will be fighting Gravitron and second guessing themselves every step of the way. I really hope this is right because this means we'll likely see Sinara again. For a villain with 5 lines total, she was pretty fun.

If we assume that the "seer" is a captured SHIELD agent then it also seems safe to assume that they give information under duress, and thus only really answer the questions Kasius asks. The things you're listing are thinks that practically Kasius wouldn't have had reason to ask. "Hey, did anyone hide a cache of weapons in some panel of the lighthouse for decades?" just isn't the sort of question anyone would think to ask until it comes up. And there's a difference between knowing who Fitz or Robin are and knowing WHO they are. Unless he had a sketch artist sit down with his seer he could know Fitz is in play but not know who he is.

I mean, there's intel holes like why the "seer" never told Kasius that Fitz would infiltrate his inner circle and bust Jemma and Daisy out. But that's all easily handwoven away by saying if he didn't ask direct questions he didn't get full answers. Which isn't to say it PROVES its a SHIELD agent either. But it just doesn't seem as disqualifying as you put it.

Okay, we know that the films will never acknowledge the show, but if the showrunners are privy to what happens in Infinity War like they were with Cap 2, and internet speculation based on leaked Infinity War set photos is correct, something bad will happen in the movies like the earth gets destroyed, and the Avengers time travel to fix it. If this is the case, this could be a great excuse to have the team doing adventures in some kind of postapocalyptic earth without contradicting the movies.

Seems like bad TV to have the reason the world was actually destroyed be completely out of the control of the people in the show though...

Not really. The events of Winter Soldier massively impacted Agents of SHIELD, but the people in the show had no real hand in resolving the problems in the movie. They just created smaller sub-problems (Garrett and Ward) for them to deal with, and it ended up being fantastic TV. If Infinity War impacts Agents of SHIELD, they’ll probably create a subset of Thanos’ invasion force that the SHIELD team can take on.

Why is this the worst season since season 1?

The only thing that twigged me was the dumbing down of the characters for plot reasons. They immediately tried to start poo poo instead of laying low and getting an understanding of the situation and put the last remnants of humanity at risk of extermination.

At least they waited until S5 to do time travel.

This season has been a bit retready with itself, but that's a side effect of the budget reductions I think. Hopefully they stashed away cash in this first half from each episode to give us a normal second half of the season with other filming locations.

Cassius seemed intimidating, but he is pretty drat incompetent. I don't really care about any of the new people. You already mentioned characters acting stupid.

The season is still ongoing, but it seems like nothing is really going to matter since they will go back in time and fix everything. So looks like it'll be another retread of the Framework except Fitz isn't a nazi this time.

I think this is a similar concept to problems with The Flash where they have the team constantly be in horrific peril worried about death and fighting against the terrible insurmountable odds without any real change in tone.

We were in the horrible murder dystopia where a lot of time was spent on making you miserable. Fitz becoming Hitler had a lot of time put into it. Mack's daughter dying again? Mace dying? The general getting shot in the face and the world hating SHIELD? The base and most of SHIELD blowing up or getting killed? May being replaced to gently caress with Coulson while she was tortured and captive? The uncertainty of LMDs pretending to be humans?

Now they up the stakes by going to a horrific post apocalypse where billions are dead and humans brutalize each other at the command of slave masters that have made them a sterile livestock while people get murdered constantly.

Coulson cracking wise once an episode doesn't really dispel the extreme tension they've tried to build. The ten seconds in the diner isn't enough to counteract 20+ hours of depressing horror where our heroes constantly get poo poo on. As a viewer if my favorite character I identify with is Fitz because he's an awkward nerd I'm not really cool with him being pushed to the point of insanity for like two literal years of viewing.

Like, Mack is a cool guy. If his story arc has to be having his daughter literally be deleted from existence while he cries and holds her, which completely devastes him only to be sent to a world where he is forced to become something he hates haunted by the necessity of his actions and what he is willing to do to survive in a horrible, depressing nightmare I probably want him to get a break somewhere in there or else the narrative just makes me feel bad.

Cassius never seemed intimidating. He seemed like a lunatic playing at Emperor and only dangerous because he was so unpredictable and held no regard for any life but his own.

I am getting tired of seeing everyone beaten down. We need a win or I could just go watch Walking Dead or something.

I guess blowing the top and bottom parts of The Lighthouse apart could be considered a "win" but...

We've got Daisy with an inhibitor, May still has a messed up leg, Coulson just got hit in the head, Deke may murder Daisy to save the earth, Robin is dead, Cassius knows the calvary is coming and has his own "seer". We know they are going to make it back to the present. Then we know that Mack and Gemma are supposed to die. I mean, it seems like torture porn at this point. The Framework was brutal, but it was not "real" and that provided distance. We have no distance.

I enjoy the show, I like it, but it is starting to wear me down emotionally.

No. We don't.

When the team goes back, they'll have Flint with them which will split off into a third time-line. One in which Graviton doesn't crack the Earth because Flint holds it together via geokinetic power.

I mean it sucks for Timeline 1 (enslavement as breeding stock for Inhumans) and Timeline 2 (extinction either by Kree retaliation or eventual starvation).

But the SHIELD team we're following will be A-OK and save the day in the new timeline they splintered off by bringing Flint to the past.

I agree with most of the sentiment that the constant peril is a little grinding. It's not that they're in danger--that's the show--it's the fact that they've been shoved into two back-to-back distopias of oppression and gloom. I am also a bit miffed that SHIELD has been constantly poo poo upon to the point that the entire organization is like ten-ish people. Going from a massive organization to a post-crisis rebuilding faction in S1-S2 was neat, but being an on-the-run group of dwindling members for the last few seasons has been a little uninteresting (at least for me). I still love the show, I'd just like for them to catch and break and get back to some globetrotting and espionage/mystery solving like S2.
