Mortal luxury was useful only as much as it twisted mortal hearts and ruined mortal faith. Nearly every scripture around the world warned of it, 'The love of money is the root of all evil' to quote but one, which made it all so very, very beneficial to his cause. Those who had been utterly twisted by its siren call and used religion as a dragnet for their own gain were among his truest thralls, which had the side benefit of said thralls having the wherewithal to be of the best service to him.

The Scandal of Shargeton had been exceedingly pleasant: The hypocrites at the heart were no less hypocritical, even those whose livelihoods were diminished, but turning over the rock so that everyone could see the lurking things scurrying let that get magnified to wither and erode the faith of pretty much anyone who took an interest. What, then, for Atlantica City? As he traded niceties with the televangelist, he reached out ahead to see what potential there was on landing, where to sow seeds or to reap, any religion, any denomination, be it mosques, temples, synagogues, churches or wats. Perhaps there were others like himself there, Best to keep an eye on the competition.

Reaching out with Religiosity +2 to survey the spiritual land in Atlantica City on aproach, looking for potential opportunities and threats.

Mekhistos Temp +2

Power. Sweet, addictive power. Still but a shadow of what was rightfully his, but Mekhistos has plans for what to do with this small windfall. Proper worship would have to wait, but he could start tilling the ground and planting seeds of devotion.
Akadaimoan warrior-priests took what they called "Crow's Milk" to be fiercer in battle and to better hear the voices of the gods after: if a stimulant based on that would hit the streets, there would be hundreds of addicts ready to believe. He could conjure some out of thin air, but he knew from past experiences that he would never be able to supply enough with that method.
No, he'd have to repeat the trick he used with the Acid mushrooms, and change a plant so that it would become a natural source, ready to be harvested. He'd need many specimens, but as luck had it, he had a favor to call. Grabbing his burner phone, he quickly dialed the number Nick gave him.
"Nick, it's me. Do you remember what I've told you about making something that will blow the competition clear out of the water? I might be able to do it, but I need a suitable starting material: I want you and your associates to bring me as many nightshade plants as you can get your hands on. Do as I ask, and I will deliver on my promise".

So, gonna try to find some survivalist, see if we can make that a cult, and probably some chosen to get Edea's support in the times to come. But I figure I'd let you decide what kind of person this survivalist is and how they run their operation

A wiry man with a stripe of gray hair running back from a scar that stopped just above his left eye frowned at Edea through a thick piece of glass set in a metal door. After awhile he opened the heavy door: "Well, come on in then. May as well give you a tour since you managed to find me. Afterwards you can tell me how you did that, I thought I bribed the filing clerk well enough to cover my tracks when I bought this missile silo."

Clifton Wainwright, as he introduced himself, looks to be in his late 40s and is gregarious. He seems like he might be lonely after living out here by himself and eagerly shows you around his renovated, but still fortified, surplus missile silo. He leads you back to a comfortable living room with solid steel walls. "So, what brought you here?"

Sygyzy's modifications to Arthur's connection speeds work a little too well. It looks like they're faster about 75% of the time. In any case, Arthur is pretty pleased.

You are on your way to very first site when suddenly there's an incredibly loud bang, a whoosh of heat, and then your jeep is flipping over and over in the air. It comes down on it's roof and you narrowly miss having your skull crushed in as it crumples. Glancing wildly around you can see two groups of natives approaching, one from each side of the ride. At least 3 people in each group.

Surprise! Probably not a surprise, you've been ambushed.

Veränderung - FP: 0

Ambushing the supply caravan's security detachment is almost childishly easily. It's as if the new government has no idea how to protect its roads. Surprisingly, one of the guards isn't quit dead. As you walk past he grabs your feet and begs to be allowed to serve "the great Veränderung." Hearing his request, several of the civilian drivers gather around, it seems they might be interested in joining you as well. He, or any one of the drivers, could be a plant, intending to spy on and betray you. What do you do?

Atlantica city never sleeps. Bright lights blaze up at your private jet as you come in for a landing. The staff obsequiously help you with your luggage and as you walk towards the limo your benefactor usually uses, you see bustling crowds. To your sight, the city is a pustulent sore oozing over with hypocrisy. Especially bright are the so called chapels in many of the larger casinos. Surprisingly, there is one spot at the edge of the city that doesn't. The university is also curiously dim.

Marcus calmly takes the note, and walks out of the office as though nothing unusual had happened, not making any attempt to stop the fleeing VP. He heads home, his hours are flexible enough that it shouldn't raise any suspicion. Once home he gets to work, he needed to dispensary the money in the account. Luckily, he worked for a large company as an accountant and the same principles that applied to hiding money from the taxman, apply to hiding it from anyone else who might be looking for it. What he needs is to route the money through a dizzying array of shell companies he could easily set up in various offshore locations. Better yet, since there's no chance he'll need to bring this cash back onto his metaphorical main books at a later date, he can burn the shell companies once they'd serve their purpose hopefully severing the chain anyone else could follow.

Marcus is taking the money and using his skills as Accountant[+4] to make it difficult if not impossible for someone looking for it later to figure out where it went and who has it. His aim is to move it (after numerous cutouts) to an account he'll set up for it, basically disguising where the money from the VP's account went, and where the money in his secret account came from.

It wasn't pretty, and it itched a bit, but it worked. He could feel a steady flow of energy into his system like he was mainlining coffee. Maybe he could start a geek fashion trend too, like that stupid Glass thing from a few years ago. Milton still saw people with those things on and it usually made him chuckle.

------

The Energy 4 2morrow building sat on a cheerful looking compound not far drom the outskirts of the city. The squat white building was covered in mirrors and looked like the architect had tried to give everyone a corner office. The roof, of course, was all solar panels and their location in a valley was carefully planned to have a maximum wind tunnel effect on the massive turbine behind the compound. The air here practically crackled with enthusiasm and optimism.

It just might be more of a challenge that he had expected. Well, Milton always kept his word. One of the few ideals he still clung to. Your word was everything. Even if it was a pain in the rear end to keep.

He had practised a bit with his power before coming here and he found that in tiny doses it actually took very little effort to use. The merest flick of it and he was able to walk right past the guard shack, effectively invisible. Now it was just about finding a good spot and settling in.

While Nick was busy wrestling with his lack of botanical knowledge, Mekhistos had created a small sample of his new drug, tentatively dubbed Albacorvine. A powerful stimulant, with the welcomed side-effect of leaving the user malleable and open towards belief in higher powers.

Once the last of the plants was delivered, Mekhistos went towards Nick, a small baggie of white powder in hand. "This is a sample of our new drug, do you want a hit? I can promise it will be the best high in your life."

After the Greek had snorted a line and, as testified by his contracted pupils, was high as a kite, Mekhistos stood up and grabbed a small knife from a nearby workbench. "You like how you're feeling, right? And you want many others to feel good, since you are an altruist at heart. Well, I have good news for you. I can make sure many others will feel this, and that you will be the one that makes it possible. I only need your belief in me. Oh, and a bit of blood. A small cut on the palm should suffice."

Shaky hands took the offered blade, and a swift cut later, Nick's left hand was bleeding. Mekhistos collected a few drops, mixed them with the remaining Albacorvine sample, and blew on the mixture, which changed into a reddish mist that seemed to seep into the nightshade plants, leaving the underside of their leaves stained black and their berries milky white.

He might be an inhuman deity governing all telecommunications, but he's a sucker for a cute baby animal. So while he speaks to the Security Puppy (Who is Almost Certainly A Personification Of A Security Subroutine), he is also trying to give it scritches.

"I'm not sure, actually; I just sort of cruised the data stream until I got here, I must have missed your Dad. I'm sure he's very awesome. What's your name? Is it all right if I go see this guy?" Pointing, here, to the staffer that he had noticed earlier. "How about if I give you a treat?"

So Sygyzy is figuring that within the data stream visualization he's currently in, this pup is representative of a program of some sort, and he would like it to be kindly disposed towards him. Ergo, he's going to tweak the data to create a visualization of a nice juicy steak. This will probably reflect in the actual security program as a cookie saying 'it's okay this one passes muster' or somesuch, but the steak image is more fun so we'll concentrate on that. Now this was interesting. Someone knew he was in town to play, and whoever it was was deserving of that capital 'S', which narrowed it down almost certainly beyond the teeming hordes of humanity. Another being like him, then, or one sufficiently akin to be in the same ballpark? Given the suggested location, just outside the area on the outskirts totally devoid of delicious repugnant hypocrisy, it was more than likely this would answer some of the fascinating brainteasers that greeted him in this citywide den of sinners, and probably provide him with several brand new ones. How could he refuse?

He inhaled a heady draught of self-deception, and sent a request to some rich, obese highrollers who believed themselves to be particularly pious and godly, as evidenced by the almighty blessing them with their extravagant stretch limousine, which of course they'd be happy to lend out to further the 'good work', aren't we so holy?

With that scheduled, it was just a case of enjoying himself until the appointed time, raising up a fresh, healthy crop of rot-sweet sanctimony in the hearts and minds of a touring church group who were otherwise beginning to have second thoughts, just enough time and effort to tide him over until then.

Onward to the meeting, his appearance respectably besuited.
