He's been around for 12 years and hasn't really grown at all - there were periods where he looked hot and WWE may have screwed up on striking while the iron was hot, but he hasn't really evolved or progressed much at all over the last decade, in some ways he has regressed. I mean, part of that is because WWE really hasn't given him any reason to, but he feels like a case of absolutely wasted potential and the chip on his shoulder just comes across as more ridiculous the longer he fails to gain any traction.

It's, like, 75/25. The booking murdered him with a hatchet every time he was getting over (except once when it was Jack Swagger giving him a concussion because poo poo happens) and that made the audience stop caring about him because they wised up to the fact that getting invested was a waste of time, and in response to that he started putting in visibly much less effort and it soured the last people who were hanging on.
