Finally caught up on this LP! I really enjoy how you're presenting this, especially all the little gifs.

I'm glad Mae and Ti'zo are getting a lot of love from the thread. They're two of my favorites.

Jodariel was a successful career soldier in the Commonwealth, according to the last update, so it's possible she's always been super built.

Let'en my post flyen true
: Winged Terrors – Gameplay
: Music: Sky Dance

: Although he had a hefty amount of Inspiration banked, Hedwyn is still only around halfway to his next level up. He’s got a way to go!

: Rukey, on the other hand….

: Like I had explained before, the two second-level perks in the right-hand tree currently available to us are Explosive Temper (when Rukey banishes adversaries by casting his Aura, the detonation can take out other nearby adversaries) and Keen Eye (Rukey’s Aura goes 50% further when cast).

: Our range has never really been an issue with Rukey’s Aura. He’s very fast and his Aura lingers three times longer than anyone else’s, thanks to Jomeur’s Fang. He’s very much a run-and-gunner, capable of getting into position easily and getting a snipe before repositioning. So, I’m not interested in Keen Eye.

: Explosive Temper, on the other hand, will basically allow Rukey to shoot tiny, Ti’zo-like explosions whenever he gets a kill. Explosive Temper seems like the better of the two options to me, so gimme that.

: And finally, Pamitha is just shy of a level-up herself. The next time she participates, she’ll definitely be getting something.

: …Don’t worry, I won’t be staying any longer than it takes. I like my air fresh so I can sleep up on the roof. I trust the Rites will cause my path and Tamitha’s to cross again before long.

: You’re welcome with us for now, Pamitha. Trust is what got us here. Isn’t that right, Rukey?

: But Rukey does not seem to hear the question. He has been rather quiet since first encountering your new guest.

: Pamitha shoots him one of her smiles.

: Is that what they call it nowadays?

: He runs off. During this discussion, the minstrel pulls you aside.

: Reader…? I ask a moment of your time outside.

Gfy

: If you can get past the dragons made out of briar patches holy gently caress that looks like quite the pleasant place to have a Rite.

: The Glade of Lu, directly due west… then, it is just as my client indicated.

: This client of yours… our informant… Sandalwood. He entrusted us with this wagon. This quest. Why? What does he want from us?

: You may ask him yourself. He awaits us, somewhere in Wakingwood, due west.

: How do we find him?

: He shall find us.

: It seems you are soon to finally meet Sandalwood… at dawn, you shall have to cross a single narrow path leading west, where he supposedly awaits.

: Somebody’s a bit of a night owl, it seems. Couldn’t hurt to give them the good word.

: I’m still a bit cautious around Pamitha, but conversation is a good start to building some trust between us. Let’s see what’s on her mind.

: Also, if the character portraits in the blackwagon are supposed to be to scale, Pamitha is much shorter than her other portraits and gameplay model suggests.

: You approach Pamitha, who has kept to herself since she joined your small band. You sense she is unaware of you as she preens her flight feathers. But then, she speaks up before you can do the same.

: Come to check up on me, Reader darling?

: This is the first time that my ‘sensing’ someone’s thoughts or motives has failed me, meaning that Pamitha may have the ability to hide herself from my all-seeing eye. To be fair, this doesn’t mean that I should trust her less, because doing so would mean that I’d be a paranoid control freak – Pamitha is entitled to the privacy of her own thoughts. But still, it does mean that she’s more of a wildcard than I thought.

: In those first moments when we met, the misgivings you relayed to that nice Hedwyn boy. I wouldn’t have trusted in me, either. One of your kind’s ancient enemies just happens to insert herself into your group, and you just go with it…?

: However, I assure you that my motives here are plain. You’ll see. I’ve business with my blood-sister Tamitha, and nothing more. You briefly met, I think. She’s quite a catch.

: As to the little quibble between us, well… it’s a long story, all in all. One that’s frankly no one’s business but hers and mine.

: Surely we’re run into her again, maybe not soon, but in time, and we have the rest of our long lives to wait.

: Until then, stay vigilant, darling. You needn’t concern yourself with making small talk with someone like me, and besides, we Harps have a saying: ‘Liars abound.’

: She swoops away before you can respond.

: It’s reassuring that the Harp, blood-sister of another Harp that wants to kill and burn my home, who inserted herself into my group, and continually insists that she isn’t lying and that she’s laid her motives out in plain view, basically just said that all Harps are liars. I’ve got my eye on you, Pamitha.

: Whoa, that’s a handful of places to go coming up next.

Gfy

: The wagon has hit a snag, descending the black crags. Its wheel is stuck. Jodariel is not pleased.

: First, that blasted little bird. Now, this.

: Though you lack Jodariel’s raw strength, you join in as she attempts to dislodge the wagon.

: In case you misread it, Jodariel is pissed off enough to chuck a wagonboat.

: …May this Sandalwood be worth all of the hassle.

: Thank you, Jodi. I’m guessing Sandalwood doesn’t like to be kept waiting.

: He is very patient, on the contrary.

: Not I. Let us move on.

: Soon, the wagon is prepared to press onward, down the jagged slopes, toward Wakingwood. Your companions who explored ahead advise on which of the forked paths is best.

: Man, the area ahead is even busier than that! Wakingwood is a very dense place, apparently. Let’s see what our current options are.

: Vendor trash, or a Talisman. It’s actually kind of a difficult call.

: On the one hand, we could always use more money. Things cost a lot of it in the Downside, and we should take opportunities to get cash more often than I honestly have been through this Let’s Play. On top of that, we have no idea what this ‘Talisman’ could be.

: On the other hand, we went dumpster diving for vendor trash not too long ago, and our coffers are… well, they could be better, but they could also be worse. Like all things, and while we do need as much cash as we can get, opting to constantly get vendor trash is opting to forgo other bonuses that we could make use of.

: On top of both of those, the thread hasn’t had the opportunity to vote for either Gilman or Pamitha, so I can’t use their bias to choose for me.

: … you know what? Prove to me you’re on our side, Pamitha. Get us one helluva Talisman.

Gfy

: Having gone the route Pamitha recommended, she directs you toward a particular crag, no more conspicuous than any other.

: They clip our wings before they cast us down, you know. But, just the same, we learn to flit around a little bit. Just watch.

: Pamitha swoops up to a nearby peak, and disappears behind it.

: For you, Reader darling. We Highwing Remnants stash away such things for such occasions.

: Holy poo poo, that’s a huge number. This sort of speed could mean the difference between a score and an interception, as has happened multiple times already, and we generally want shots from half-court as opposed to slam dunks because then we get to keep our player.

: And I’m planning on giving Jodariel the third-level perk Celestial Spike, which will allow her to banish anyone she throws the Orb at. She’s already incredibly imposing and overpowering on defense; giving her this with Celestial Spike would provide her with two fistfuls of utility on offense as well. If we can find a way to buff her Quickness a bit, she’d be our star forward.

: … good work, Pamitha.

Gfy

: Having passed beyond the black crags, your wagon arrives at the edge of Wakingwood. It is here that Sandalwood is to be expecting you. However…

: …Most puzzling. He ought have met us here.

: You said he would find us himself.

: Aye… he was to find us at the edge of these woods.

: We supposed to keep waiting for him?

: He would desire for the stars to be your guide, as always. The Rites beckon, and the Rites take precedence above all else. Surely he shall find us, yet.

: Then, let’s keep moving. How do we get through these woods?

: The Lone Minstrel notes two possible paths forward from this point, though cautions that the woods are difficult to navigate, and Sandalwood would have known the most expedient path.

: Based on the name “Needlefield,” I think there might be a little bit more to this ‘small clearing’ than the game might be telling me. Besides that, though, the goal we’re trying to achieve is to find Sandalwood as we approach the Glade of Lu. Where could he be?

: Well, in order to come to my decision, I ask myself another question: if I were Sandalwood, where would I be? Would I be at my house, or would I be at school?

Gfy

: Sandalwood has led a long life, compared with any of you at least. In the latest years of his exile, he became rather reclusive for a variety of reasons he shall no doubt explain. He found some solace here, in these woods. Though I fear I cannot locate his residence without him.

: Unfortunately, you find no trace of Sandalwood, and without him there to guide you, you remain quite lost.

: The woods seem to have encroached. There is no path forward, while neither of the paths leading backward appear to match the route you took to this point.

: Jeez, we’re just going in a bunch of circles here. I suppose it’s ultimately better to try and backtrack to familiar territory than try to press forward.

: Currently, Mae is one of the only characters in our troupe that has not led us astray: every time we chose a path she recommends, something great has happened for us. Unfortunately, I’m not playing by those rules.

: The last time we used Ti’zo and Mae were against the Pyrehearts in the Sea of Solis. They were both in the Rite – but Ti’zo was voted as the forward and Mae as the support. So, since we’re slightly more biased in Ti’zo’s favour, we’re going with him this time.

: Also, if you remember way back against Barker and the Dissidents, Tariq implies that Ti’zo has some history with the Nightwings. Maybe he knows where to find Sandalwood?

Gfy

: The woods are so disorienting, at this point, that you decide to break for camp and survey the surroundings for any clues. Perhaps, later, there shall be time to pursue your Vocations.

: Oooooh, that’s an interesting one. Let’s not keep Sandra waiting.

: Well, first, we’re in a brand new biome. May as well chat up Sandra a bit before we get down to brass tacks.

: Let me ask you something, lovely Reader. Have you any idea for how long I have been imprisoned here?

: Uh… well, we know that it was so long that she hates her fellow inmates. She was imprisoned in the Beyonder Crystal during, or roughly around, the time of Soliam Murr and the start of the Rites and the lives of the Scribes – her punishment came directly from them, after all.

: A hundred years is too short, but a thousand years seems a bit too long to me. Maybe I’ll humour her and ballpark a lower number?

: You guess that Sandra could have been in her current state of exile for the span of an entire century.

: She smirks at this.

: A reasonable guess. But you are off by a wide margin.

: I have been imprisoned thus for 837 years.

: … looking good!

: According to my count, at least. It is possible I have lost track, although, given my state I can assure you that I have had ample time to verify my arithmetic.

: She goes silent for a time.

: If you decide to kill the Emperor, make sure you achieve what you set out to do. I expected my own death, regardless of the outcome of my task. I was not expecting this… certainly not to be telling you about it 837 years later. Or however long that it has been.

: …Although, enough of that for now. Let us get back to business.

: I heard that you’re looking to slap around one of my companions to see if they’re worthy of a boon.

: Certainly, my Reader. You need but indicate who is to be my subject for this round.

: You ask Sandra to administer one of her special trials for Jodariel.

: That surly demon, is it? She could stand to lighten up, though I fear that is not a secret I can teach. But, let us bring her forth, regardless.

: What is the meaning of this, Reader?

Gfy

: What is the meaning of this…. Reader! Where are the others?

: The apparition Sandra appears, and loosens her mask.

: Welcome to my humble home, Demon. You are good at taking orders, no?

: State your purpose quickly, wraith.

: My purpose is to put you to the test.

: You may be fearsome to behold, but you are old and slow. Your weaknesses perhaps outweigh your strengths. Though, I sorely wish to see you and your lovely Reader prove me wrong.

: Old, she says. Very well, then, Reader. Let us show her whether she is right.

: To The Test – Gameplay

: Hm. What do you have there, Reader?

: I’m kind of on the fence about this Talisman. Sure, it sounds pretty brutal on paper, but, like with Rukey, Jodariel’s long-distance range was never really an issue. Also, her Power Cast is pretty easy to hit, so the speed with which her Aura travels was never a particularly damning weakness for me. I dunno, I’ll give it a shot, but I’ll probably swap in the Star Splinter once I get Celestial Spike.

: Now, on to more pressing matters.

Okay, the sisters' mutual-banishing at 9:53, and the Voice's reaction, that was funny.

And Sandra got a piece of old Soliam before he relegated her to the eternal practice squad. Literally and figuratively.

One wonders if she had to yank the fang from Many-Mane's mouth personally, too. Given that the Eight Scribes did take down multiple beings described as 'Titans', I'm thinking that even making it past them to get her crack at Soliam Murr suggests that Sandra was something of an unholy terror in her day.

I hear you! Of course, a big part of that is that Maple Leaf has said that he's gonna use whatever outcome we get for these matches, win or lose, and that he will activate the Supergiant style optional difficulty boosters later on, so the tension is likely only going to get higher!

No one left uncured.
I got you.
Fact: even midway through the beginning of the game after the game allows your adversaries to be smart enough to not let you just walk past them into their pyre, nothing that we have yet seen approaches the twenty-four carat horseshit that this game will start throwing at us in its back half.

There'll be better opportunities to expound on this later, of course, but for now I'll say that the really cool thing about Pyre is that almost none of the usual difficulty modifiers are nearly as significant as the AI scaling. This is kinda new territory for Supergiant; Bastion and Transistor didn't really have variable intelligence for enemies, only very discrete toggles that could be switched on and off or numbers that could be raised and lowered. All these things were still expertly balanced, but when you really got down to it there wasn't a whole lot of difference between any given enemy group with all ten idols/limiters activated than with none other than how much room for error you had. With Pyre, though, obviously we're going to get some toggles, and some of them are motherfuckers, but we also get an actual difficulty slider that literally just kicks the AI up or down a peg, and a gradually escalating general difficulty level, and opponents that ultimately can gain all the same perks that we can (which is something else new in Pyre; both player and AI have the same range of tactical options).

I'm still not really sure how Pyre's difficulty actually works under the hood. I think it has six distinct AI difficulty levels, which each unlocks various general tactics and capabilities.

So, a penny just dropped for me. We've seen that the slain titans can have lasting effects on their environments - the corpse of Plurnes was surrounded by assorted weather-related unpleasantness, for example, but I think we've also seen another one. As soon as we got inside Flagging Hands, everybody except Ti'zo got slammed with an all-pervading aura of despair. That effect is linked, I think, to the fact that (per the tooltips) the witch Milithe stuffed what was left of Yslach Astral-Born into the Pit that bears her name, which appears to lie at the centre of the nasty-rear end swamp in question.

Come to think of it, maybe Flagging Hands is named for the motivation-destroying effect that despair has on people.

Let'en my post flyen true

: Jodariel’s been having a bit of a rough time of it lately. Hopefully that last performance will lift her spirits – not only did she slap Sandra around after she called her old, but it involved beating three Harps into the dirt. And she got one of Soliam Murr’s very own horns as a trophy.

: Now that we’re rested and reinvigorated, let’s get back to trying to find Sandalwood.

: You find nothing of interest while sifting through the tall brush of the Underthicket. But then…

: What is it, Ti’zo?

: (Ti’zo seems to have found a clue to the whereabouts of The Lone Minstrel’s client.)

: The little imp brings to you a strip of bark. It does not seem unusual at first, until you notice a message carved onto the inside.

: And it’s worth ten bucks! Good work, Ti’zo!

: Actually, that’s got me thinking. This bark doesn’t have Sandalwood’s signature, but it’s a safe bet that it’s from him. If you’ve ever seen an episode of Pawn Shop or whatever, you’d know that letters or parchment or whatever that has a famous person’s signature on it is worth something. I wonder: if you could prove that the letter in question was written by someone famous, but it did not have their signature, I wonder how much it’d be worth.

: Seems that way. Which way to Cinderroot?

: It is due northwest. Perhaps we can set forth early tomorrow, when the woods are still.

: Sounds good. Everyone, rest up. Big day coming up.

: This one is a bit of a tough call, I thought. We’re not immediately hurting for money (although we will be soon), so I don’t feel the need to scrounge right this moment. So it comes down to tutoring one of my allies, or going for a global bonus.

: I really want to do the tutoring. Both Gilman and Pamitha are on the cusp of a level-up, and a tutoring session would put them well-over and get us a perk. But my hesitation comes down to a pretty simple question: which one do I tutor?

: The easy answer is ‘one of those two,’ but that doesn’t actually help me. We haven’t voted on who to use for the next Rite yet, and we might not invite either Gilman or Pamitha at all. I could choose someone else entirely, but that would be wasteful, I think, considering that we have two companions that need it more desperately.

: So, I decided: gently caress it.

Gfy

: For the most part, I’m fine with our current weaknesses and strengths when it comes to Quickness and Presence. That’s not to say that we don’t need or want them, of course; just that, I feel like we’re fine with regards to those stats right this red-hot moment.

: But, the valuable lesson I learned from Flagging Hands is still with me: you can never have too much Hope. And besides, we can only upgrade one stat from Vocations twice; might as well polish Hope off.

: You extract a deeper meaning from the words and teachings of the Book of Rites, one you feel in your core, yet struggle to articulate.

: Inspiration comes to you in a flash; whether from the Book or from within, you cannot tell.

: Moving on!

Gfy

: You arrive on the outskirts of Cinderroot, but once again, the informant Sandalwood is nowhere to be found. You sense the hopes of your companions waning as your search through the area yields nothing.

: Then, something startles the little imp Ti’zo.

: (Ti’zo seems to be crying out in surprise. He has spotted something, or someone.)

: A tall figure strides forward from the trees, making a sound like laughter. The imp charges toward him…

: …and, leaps right into the figure’s arms. They embrace.

: Music: Certain Plan

: The tall Sap produces something that the imp swallows immediately and with great pleasure. The Lone Minstrel nods his head in affirmation.

: Everyone… I wish to introduce you to my client, Volfred Sandalwood.

: Hey, Fred.

: It has been too long, Volfred, sir.

: Too long indeed, Tariq. I trust your new companions bring some color to your days?

: They do, sir. I think that you shall find them worthy of the Nightwings.

: We shall see.

: Then he turns to you.

: You must be the Reader. I’m certain that we all appreciate your efforts here, my boy, though we shall manage on our own from here on out. You’re welcome to continue on with us, of course, though you are free to go. I trust you have been adequately compensated for your time? Thanks as well for looking after all my books.

: You consider what to say to all of this.

: ‘Free to go,’ he says. ‘Adequately compensated,’ he says. We’re trying to bust out of prison here. And if I’m a ‘boy’ to him, he must be an old man to me.

: If the option to punch Fred in his immaculate jaw comes up, I’m gonna take it.

: Well. If the option to deck Fred in his perfect lips isn’t there, then I’m just not going to give him the satisfaction of any answer at all.

: You stare back at Volfred, attempting to glean a deeper insight into what drives him, though you remain unable to sense anything further. Still, you refuse to budge at his behest.

: Hold on.

: Volfred, sir. I’m Hedwyn. My companions and I are the ones you answered your call. We followed the signs you left for us.

: Now we’re here. Thanks to you, and also to this Reader.

: Not just a Reader, he… he is our friend. My friend. He’s not disposable. We made him a promise, and our freedoms are now intertwined.

: Volfred smirks at this.

: Freedom’s not something to be traded or exchanged, my boy. I’d hoped that you’d have come to grasp this much by now.

: Then surely you’d appreciate my bartering skills when I tell you to eat poo poo.

: He breathes a sigh.

: You have a Rite to get to, do you not? I’ll come along, though shall not interfere. For it seems you have a kinship with this Reader of yours.

: …Now, then, Tariq?

: Aye, Volfred sir?

: Come, let’s have a chat.

: Of course, sir.

: Volfred strides toward the blackwagon, which must have belonged to him. You sense many conflicting emotions among your companions.

Gfy

: Your wagon cuts through a clearing to arrive at the Glade of Lu, where the stars directed you. Volfred nods his approval but leaves everyone to their devices.

: Lots to do here in the Glade of Lu. Which is good; I’m in a bit of a touchy mood after that altercation, and I could use the time to get my mind off Volfr–

: … I’m gonna read a book.

Gfy

: … As much as I don’t really want to look at Fred and his amazing cheekbones, I can’t avoid him forever. I may as well give him the time of day.

: Also, the man smokes some huge goddamn pipes, oh my Lord.

: As you approach Volfred Sandalwood, you feel very much aware that you reside within his blackwagon, rather than he in yours. He studies you in silence for a time, then…

: Tariq, if you have a moment…?

: Aye, Volfred sir, what is it?

: This Reader… you deem him worthy, by your estimation?

: The Lone Minstrel tilts his hat in your direction.

: Of course… it is not entirely for me to say, but I have seen this Reader integrating with the others well. I believe that his achievements are self-evident in having reached Black Basin. Your instructions were deliberately difficult to follow, yet, he and the others followed them.

: Indeed… your words make sense as ever, Tariq.

: And, what does little Ti’zo think of him, I wonder…?

: (Ti’zo indicates that, as a matter of fact, he is happy to have you around.)

: …There you have it, sir.

: I see.

: He continues to examine you.

: Now, pardon us. Tariq and I have matters to discuss.

: They leave without another word, although you think you notice The Lone Minstrel look your way over his shoulder.

: I guess that wasn’t as painful as it could have been, although that’s through no effort on Fred’s part. He’s putting Tariq’s and Ti’zo’s opinions first – which I can’t blame, he’s more familiar with them than he is with me – and they seem to like me, so that’s reassuring.

: Before we start looking into beginning this Rite, let’s give our pal Ron a quick visit.

: Oh, and, hey there, Mister Sandalwood.

: Good day to you as well, Ron.

: Ron’s got a new Pinch of Stardust available for 16 Sol, along with a new Talisman. This new Pinch is his cheapest right now, so I might as well take it. And, while we’re here, we can offload that stripe of bark that has Fred’s handwriting on it to offset the Stardust a little bit.

: The new Talisman available is called the Rite Lite, and it’s basically a Last Stand kind of Talisman: once per Rite, if my Pyre should be extinguished, it’s instead restored by 5 HP. It can also stack with any other Masteries or Talismans that restore my Pyre.

: Like I said before, ideally, I should never be in a position where I’m losing to that point, and even if I were, I’m not so sure another five points is going to rescue me from whatever hole I’ve fallen into. It’s relatively cheap at 25 Sol, but it’s not worth it to me.

: The really good stuff – namely, the Lunar Glass, which allows the bearer to move 10% faster while holding the Orb – is well outside my current price range, so, I guess that wraps up my business with Ron. He’s made a whole six dollars from me today.

: Ron’s pretty delightful to be around sometimes. He loves his dad and he loves running his business. How can you hate that?

: You and your fellow exiles arrived at the sacred site called Glade of Lu, and now look to the stars in the sky to signal the beginning of the next Rite.

: The woods about you bring a sense of tranquility you have not felt in some time. But then, you notice one of the trees move. It shuffles toward you, and regards you with an exaggerated bow.

: Music: Grand Ceremony

: Oh, but where are my manners, hmm? One moment!

: The Sap claws at his mask with his wispy fingers.

: H. Manley Tinderstauf, at your service! Perhaps you’ve heard of me?

: Well… at least he looks like he’s having a good time.

: My fellows and myself, you perhaps know us as the Chastity. We soon shall stand against you in the Rites!! For now I am just whiling away the time, making small talk!

: Now, then, as I have introduced myself, your turns!! To whom am I speaking?

: <Manley Tinderstauf is not to be trusted. Reveal neither yourselves to him, nor me.>

: Well…?

: Beneath her mask, Jodariel stares back at him in silence. You suspect Volfred’s message may have reached every member of the group.

: Why, now, how very rude, indeed. Well, fine! Ignore me, but you do so at your peril!

: Anyhow, once this evening’s Rite commences, any moment now, then I’m afraid ignoring me won’t be an option any longer. Oh! And now I do believe the sky is beginning to show. We’ll have to chat again some other time! Now come along, come along!

: Manley bows again and wanders off into a clearing, as the stars begin to burn.

Gfy

: It’s time, indeed, for us to face off against Manley and the Chastity, here in the Glade of Lu.

: This time, we have no temporary bonuses or penalties, and every single one of our triumvirate is available and willing to compete in the Rites. Who do we bring into this match against the Chastity?

: Our options are Hedwyn, Rukey, Jodariel, Mae, Ti’zo, Sir Gilman, and Pamitha. You cannot vote for Jodariel and Pamitha at the same time; you must pick one or the other. First to five votes gets their spot guaranteed, and remember, the order you vote for them in matters!

Gilman, Tizo and Pamitha.
Grand Ceremony is my favorite track in the game.

Sir Gilman, Pamitha, Rukey.

H. Manley Tinderstauf reminds me, oddly enough, of Gilderoy Lockhart from the Harry Potter series.

Ah yes, Volfred. The most handsome tree you'll ever meet.

Huge pipes, huh? :pervert:

I fee like you're being very tsundere toward me, and it makes me uncomfortable.

Sir Gilman, Jodariel and Mae.

I wonder if Treebeard there is going to join the team as a player. He did say to fill out all the masks, after all. Does that mean we'll run into a benevolent snake lady, too?

We did already. Well, questionably benevolent, but she did upgrade the wagon on Sandlewood's request, so that's alright.

I think it's the hair. Also he's kind of a piece of poo poo in the same sort of way.

I really love the way the game shapes your impression of Volfred. Also, I just now noticed he has the same sigil carved into his forehead that was on the Reader's robe when we saw him at the start of the game. I think at the start of the game that sigil branded you as literate. Which makes sense, considering Volfred wrote us a message.

Not nearly enough Rukey votes in here

: Our options are Hedwyn, Rukey, Jodariel, Mae, Ti’zo, Sir Gilman, and Pamitha. You cannot vote for Jodariel and Pamitha at the same time; you must pick one or the other. First to five votes gets their spot guaranteed, and remember, the order you vote for them in matters!

Even if no one votes for Jodariel and Pamitha, they might still be the first to reach five votes each. How would you handle that?

It'd be a shame to the people that voted for the character that passed-the-post second, but that character would be vetoed from the team by necessity. Blame them and their characters, not me!

No one left uncured.
I got you.
Manley is piss garbage, but he's hilarious, and his theme loving rules, so.

The weird not-quite-voice-acting lines they have for him are so completely perfect.

Sir Gilman, Pamitha, Ti'zo. Team inhuman morphology, awaaaaaaay!

But definitely Sir Gilman - dude hasn't had a chance to take part in a Rite yet.

Definitely add me to the list of folks entirely won over by Manley and Co.'s amazing harpsichord theme. Also, H. Manley Tinderstauf is the kind of name I expect to see heading up a legal firm.

I've been wondering about the Reader's ability to, well, read people thus far - specifically, whether it's just a function of being a canny people-watcher, or whether there's something more magical about at work here. Somehow I'm not surprised that Sandalwood can stop it dead in its tracks, whatever it is. Also, apparently, communicate psychically.

Wait, the only other confirmed literate person here can block our intention-scan and communicate psychically? Is reading, like, actually magical in Pyre's world or something, and Sandalwood's just been reading for a lot longer than we have? (I've actually been wondering for a while now what the state of magic in this world is - there's something obviously supernatural about the Rites, and I'm guessing the Scribes didn't carve up old Yslach for Book of Rites fodder just for giggles. There's also the matter of the voice that alternates between wishing us failure and providing a spot of commentary on our matches - is that built into the Rites, or just for us? Lots of questions to look for answers to, I suppose.)

By my count, our team now consists of Sir Gilman as our forward (with a huge blowout in votes, I might add), followed by Pamitha on support and Ti'zo on defense. Spot three was up in the air a little bit between Ti'zo, Mae and Rukey, but that last vote clinched it!

I actually really love how Sir Gilman plays. His aura casting is really easy to use, the AI generally doesn't know how to react to it because it's the opposite of how other characters' works. And then his abilities can make it even better!

So I have played the game to completion and I know well that whether you win or lose is not important here, but let me tell you, if you ever lose to this loving bourgeois ponce Maple Leaf I won't ever forgive you. :colbert: (he's such a good villain. all the characters are such good characters)
