the scope is also a little specific. like how it's hard for some people to relate to catcher in the rye because they come from different cultural or economic backgrounds, if you can't understand being in your 20s in a sleepy small american town (in fact, that's the Big City Dream to me), a lot of it will go over your head or hit the wall or whatever. my 20s existential crisis was "most of the people i love are dying of bad luck before they hit 30" so the malaise of living in a town big enough to have an applebees doesn't exactly speak to me.

Not sure I understood what happened towards the end, not sure I'm supposed to be able to understand, but it really did hit home in a number of different ways. Maybe someday I can wrap my brain around coding well enough to aspire to make something even 1/12th as decent as NitW, something that would allow me to paint an interesting snapshot of my life and experiences here in much the same way that the writers' lives and experiences in western PA impacted NitW.
