Living the Dream
This needs like one more season after this so I can watch people turn 180 degrees on liking Ainz.

I haven't seen the latest episode but it doesn't surprise me they left it all in. Ainz realizing that Aura and Mare are basically children in elf-years is kinda funny in the LN but that fact makes some later stuff kinda squicky (nothing actually HAPPENS but NW NPCs can be pretty scummy).

The lizard man arc is great and I loved it. As much as Ainz and friends are cool, the normal rear end fantasy setting and native people's stories and plots are super well done and I would watch a show just about them.

I think it helps a lot that most fantasy works don't really focus on weird "primitive" cultures like lizardmen, and the lizardmen in Overlord have enough of a societal structure described to feel somewhat unique, with concepts like Zaryusu being branded an outsider/outcast because he opted to go wandering, or how they've had wars simply to kill their populations down to sustainable levels and Zaryusu bringing in ideas that seem simplistic like sustainable fish farming might have changed their society radically over time had Nazarick not showed up.

The LN goes into substantially greater detail about the lizardmen and by the end of the arc I felt more familiar with the lizardmen characters than most of the Nazarick guardians.

i'm glad da share z0ne finally got the anime it deserved

i'm not sure why i like this more than all the other blatant power fantasies, it's probably two things:

1) it does not gently caress around, brutal and insanely metal poo poo happens at a moment's notice
2) the weird but somehow heartwarming running plot of a near-emotionless skeleton dad trying to live up to the ideals of his insane murderous demon children who worship him as a god

Yinlock
Oct 22, 2008

skeleton dad doesn't want to disappoint his beloved children, his children are terrified of failing him because they think he might leave them like the others

it's very sweet and also leads to a lot of dead people because they're also super evil

e: didn't realize vol 7 was considered where the series got bad forever though, i enjoyed the recent books that are just Ainz bumbling around as a travelling salesman and everyone assuming he's some incredible chessmaster planning 10000 moves ahead

Backstory

She was a sex slave, slavery was declared illegal, that is the last brothel for the high class to get their dark rocks off in the capital because they have managed to have no leaks, she could give the people in the kingdom who care an excuse to brutally crush that brothel, which would cost the organization their blackmail material among other things.

This flat out does not happen in the Light Novel which is the version that is being adapted for the anime and manga so I think it's okay to reveal.

There's a young (exact age indeterminate I think? I don't recall totally...she's hopefully like 17-18 or order. I hope) girl adventurer type character that gets captured in Nazarick. In the Web Novel Ainz spares her and gives her to Shalltear.

Shalltear may have the hots for Ainz but she's a lesbian otherwise; like those "vampire brides" you see a bit of in the first season aren't just for thematically-fitting personal guards. This (again hopefully barely of-age or better) girl character ends up Shalltear's sex-slave until Ainz lets her leave to live peacefully in the 6th floor (the gigantic plains/forest area with the false sky). One of this girl's "souvenirs" from her stay with Shalltear is a cat tail buttplug she was forced to use. That's not a joke by the way.

She also teaches Ainz how to dance.

Ditto. The dwarf arc might actually be my favorite that we've gotten so far. The one fat otaku frost dragon was pretty dumb but otherwise the subjugation of the molemen was pretty fun.

Yeah, I get why Sebas wants to keep the girl protected from the monsters of Nazarick so he doesn't want to report it, but why make up such bad lies and act so pointlessly suspicious about it? Isn't he smart enough to figure out something better? Why is Solution so hyper paranoid and goes yelling about treason the first thing? It feels like it's just to force in some drama for no reason to me.

Why are the princess and the blue adventuresses so surprised and kinda calm about there possibly being someone in the castle spying on them (actually 100% true, but I suspect there would be more than just one)? Isn't that a huge freaking deal considering who they are up against? The kept repeating how the note was bait and a trap and seemed to plan to go anyway? Maybe I misunderstood it.

ViggyNash posted:

To me the appeal of this power fantasy is when Ainz fights some jerkass who thinks they are total hotshit and powerful but gets effortlessly cluwned into the ground just after realizing how utterly hosed they are.
