Dunno if anyone's even tried it but a buddy has the HD collection on PS3 and will eventually be getting to peace walker. I don't have a PS3 but do have a PS4, does the PS NOW version of the HD collection allow co-op with people playing on PS3, or am I poo poo out of luck?

Nice! Fond memories of doing psp co-op back in the day so it should be fun.

Been watching someone play MGS2 recently and Solidus really sticks out like a sore thumb in the series. Just having someone that looks identical to Big Boss as the US prez and on TV constantly with nobody finding that strange, considering the real Big Boss was supposedly on the cover of a bunch of magazines/famous in the 90s. Not to mention the patriots somehow confusing the two men despite them missing different eyes.

Feel like MGS V could have been a good way to tie him into the series rather than creating yet another copy but hey ho.

Knew I saw Big Boss on a magazine/paper somewhere.

Just finished watching the new series of Adam Curtis films and there was a segment on Abu Zubaydah, which led me to wonder how much of the whole MGS5 shrapnel subplot was inspired by Kojima's research into Guantanamo, where he inevitably would have learned of Zubaydah.

He's certainly got a familiar look to him.

In 1992, Zubaydah was injured in a mortar shell blast, which left shrapnel in his head and caused severe memory loss, as well as the loss of the ability to speak for over one year.

I remember looking up an estimate on how much it would theoretically cost to build and maintain a MGS style sea fortress base and it was comically expensive, the Diamond Dogs iteration being even worse due to the miles of roads connecting the struts (iirc put there to give the older consoles more time to load.)

I suppose Ocelot must have dipped into his philosophers legacy rainy day fund to help start the latter. No way he's not charging payday-loan level interest rates.

Kaz 'Genius businessman' Miller my arse.

1978 attack and Sealand Rebel Government

In August 1978, Alexander Achenbach, who described himself as the Prime Minister of Sealand, hired several German and Dutch mercenaries to lead an attack on Sealand while Bates and his wife were in Austria invited by Achenbach to discuss the sale of Sealand.[14] Achenbach had disagreed with Bates over plans to turn Sealand into a luxury hotel and casino with fellow German and Dutch businessmen.[15] They stormed the platform with speedboats, personal watercrafts and helicopters, and took Bates's son Michael hostage. Michael was able to retake Sealand and capture Achenbach and the mercenaries using weapons stashed on the platform.

Him sounding like that in ground zeroes kinda ruins that idea but funnily enough would actually make more sense if they kept their original idea to have it as a flashback on the chopper ride back from rescuing Kaz.

It would have been good if they got Hayter to voice BB in Ground Zeroes but I suppose it would have made the twist even more obvious.

On the topic of voice acting it really stands out to me how liquid probably has fewer voice lines than quiet, as well as the odd line read of "I'm not like you" (24:40)

https://youtu.be/E-c62vXHgXc

Where he says it in the same way Cam Clarke did in Mgs1 except this time he's not responding to anyone so it just sounds off. Makes me wonder what's down to the amount of cut content and what's down to strange voice direction.

Thinking on Huey I rewatched the
Diamonds from their ashes funeral scene. It's super jarring that Ocelot and Kaz aren't throwing Huey in the sea except without the lifeboat.

The guy they hate so much they want to bend his legs off the other way/rust his walking machine up to his femur waltzes in on the funeral of like a dozen of your cherished staff and starts gaslighting Big Boss about it being all his fault.

While everyone who listened in on the mission knows he was just putting them out of their misery.

And yet all Kaz can manage is a subdued "What", and Ocelot placing a comforting hand on Huey's shoulder for some reason lol.

I'm not sure it's even possible to critique the game's story in "Good faith" considering how notoriously unfinished it is. Very hard to tell if that's how the cutscene was meant to come across or if it was due to being rushed out the door

Still a great sneaking game tho

Well yeah I didn't mean literally execute him. They're a merc group full of rowdy guys and were giving him the full Guantanamo treatment days before, so I would more expect for him to be dragged off rather than handled like an uncle at a wedding who's had a bit too much to drink.

I do find the idea of the gang being so aghast at his poo poo that they don't really know how to react pretty funny though.

Edit: I know it's just a fun scene but It's so funny that they invited Huey to Venom's birthday party and how into the singing he is. Can't tell if he's trying to earn some brownie points or if he's actually being sincere

Huey definitely got way worse in V but he was pretty awful in moments in PW, and his interactions with Strangelove are impossible for me not to read a certain way knowing what will happen in the next game.

It's crazy that the last we see of him in PW there's this swelling music and hopeful tone as he looks to the sky, and all you know at that point in the series is he ends up at the bottom of a swimming pool. I remember it turning from "Wow that's a cruel fate" to "This is good, actually" when 5 came out.

Don't you have to redo Cloaked In Silence in V seven times to get Quiet back post-game?

Wonder if it's a coincidence or the same Romance of the three kingdoms reference (if that's even true itself)

I feel like peace walker really benefited from being constrained onto the PSP even with the dogshit control/space limitations. Apparently the team developing it was as big as MGS4 and it's got so many great moments between the side content/tapes etc.

God knows if it's even a consideration for including it in Volume 2 of the master collection but I feel like the Paz stuff would raise a lot more eyebrows in 2024 than it did in 2011 though.

Was watching some mgs4 cutscenes for the first time in ages.

Do you think Big Boss thought up that corny 0 to 100 binary analogy in the 90s, or was it when he woke up in the far off future of 2014 and wanted to look tech savvy to his grandpa son?
