Remember all those people who said this games going to be like TPP but better because Kojima is gone?

Look what kind of monster they've created

All right Metal Gear thread, this has been bothering me since I woke up this morning. I'm pretty sure I'm either seeing a nonexistent theme or I forgot something from V, but I'm not certain so I'm checking.

1-4 each had a "son"-themed element, right? Sons of Big Boss / Sons of Liberty / Sons of The Boss / Sons of The Patriots.
(admittedly the Cobra Unit is kind of a stretch but there's also the literal son of the literal lady The Boss)
And then there just wasn't one in 5?

Well the theme song of the game is Sins of the Father and that ties into the game as we see how BB, Huey, Ocelot, Miller and Skullface are responsible for a lot of poo poo that happens later in the series

I think the reversal is intentional

I played a bit of Revengeance yesterday. Its been a while (my current playtime is somewhere around 200-300 hours. I cant tell because the counter glitched at 146 hours)

The games so good. Everything from attacking to parrying feels like it has proper impact and the bosses are text book examples on how to make a Metal Gear boss

Same here. I actually started MGS1 last night on my PS3 and just finished up beating Ocelot and getting the FAMAS. Such a jarring experience switching from V to 1 gameplay wise.

I’ve never actually played through MGS1, just have memories of watching my dad play when I was younger. I was lucky enough to experience MGS2 and 3 as I got older and now I’m pretty proud of my Metal Gear collection of games. Still need to play through 1, PW and Revengeance.

Does Death Stranding count as Metal Gear talk? I’ve been interested in reading what you guys think about it so far. I’m mildly excited to play it but I get people who say Kojima without direction might end up being a dumpster fire. It will be interesting either way I think.

I feel like saying "Kojima without direction" is kinda dumb considering how much influence he had at Konami to begin with (even being a company executive at one point)

In fact, the moment they started isolating him and stripping away position things went to shitter (MGSV and the rest of the series were good despite of Konami)

Unless its some kind of persistent meter across all missions

Yeah I'm assuming the story mode is more persistent and has varied objectives and more stealth approach.

But at the moment coop is literally just mass zombicide without any restraint and more Killing Floor than Survive

So far Survive sounds like a bunch busywork abd lacking in fun stealth fuckery. Even in survival horror games you arent forced to collect resources but rather work it what you got

Even aside from that it doesn't do enough damage to be the auto win button it's made out to be. :downsgun:

It's not great against vehicles either.

One of the many mysteries in that game.

Umm the Honey Bee does ridiculous dmg to skulls compared to anything else you might have at that point.

You just point it at their feet and blam

Not using the Honey Bee however gets you more points at the end so the other person is wrong too

You can also run up to enemies in MGS3 and slam them before they can react.

This was actually tweaked in MGS4 so you never have enough time to run up to an enemy and CQC

Then it was changed back in MGSV so you can do those sweet running takedowns with Bionic Arm

Developing at least one FOB is important because it is an extension of your Mother Base and gives you more resources and manpower to develop things. You get one FOB for free and the rest require Konami Dollars to build

Invading is a good way to get extra resources and troops

You can ignore invading tho if you only care about offline stuff

C) is there a good spot to get backstory on the mist guys, pyro guys, and skull face without a ton of spoilers?

You can save the prisoner at any point. You just have to come up with a plan.

You can kill them without Honey Bee but its harder and you might not have enough firepower for it at this point.

Skull Face was introduced in Ground Zeroes as a commander of black ops unit XOF who wants to kill both Big Boss and his former commander Zero for reasons unknown.

I'm fairly certain Kojima is done with MGS for good. I know thats a pretty silly stance to take but Kojima himself openly said in an interview prior MGSV release that getting a budget for anything other than MGS is quite difficult.

Basically the man used MGS to try out his own ideas but never had a chance to do an original project at Konami.

My point being that he implied simply mentioning MGS would get him all the resources he needed but getting anything else accepted was practically impossible at Konami

(See Silent Hills and Zone of the Enders 3. Heck, who knows how many projects Konami refused because they are not MGS)
