Dear Agrikk, I am opening this support case to let you know, in no uncertain terms, that I truly do not understand how to cloud. I am also acknowledging that all of your previous efforts to educate us have fallen on deaf ears and we remain as willfully ignorant of your best practices and concepts as ever. Sincerely, <customer> (Customer opened a critical case because they could not SSH into a single ec2 instance. I can't imagine a scenario in which not being able to SSH into a host is a business impacting event with financial implications.)

The guillotine for whoever decided letting apps block screenshots was a good idea. Makes it really difficult to show an error message to support when it shits itself.

I got a request to start buying dual monitor stands. They all need to fit in the desks grommet hole. Does anyone have a recommendation? C-clamp stands just won't work.

How big is that grommet hole? You might take a look at what Ergotron has to offer.

Yeah, you're right. A vertical joint instead of a horizontal. My boss told me to buy this one, but it's no better. https://www.amazon.com/Loctek-Monit...ual+monitor+arm

A human came in a week ago... This shot however was from Saturday. I'm out of PTO time so it's super great being back at work while my 1.5 lb 3-months-early baby chills about 2 hours away from me. The amount of fucks I've given about literally anything at work right now has reached new and unprecedented levels of zero. Brand new space age children's hospital that's been open for 8 months needs to update their Alien Wares. Edit for the curious : This is our first and probably only child, after 5+ years of attempts. Her name is Summer and she's probably going to live in that box for the next few months. Nerdrock fucked around with this message at 18:47 on Jun 5, 2018 |

If you want a longer arm that articulates more, you can buy the 3-monitor model and just not use the center post mount. Humanscale and Ergotron for monitor arms, every cheap one I’ve tried has been trash. Some of Dell’s arms are rebadged Humanscale, some of the Amazon Basics ones are Ergotron, you might find a bargain there.

Think it was a BP checking thing. So the other night I was hanging in the baby's room as she's surrounded by machinery all doing various jobs... and BEEP BEEP. LOW POWER PLUG IN IMMEDIATELY. BEEP. PSSgghhzzrrwwwww off. .. ... I poke my head out of her room "hey uh, something turned off is it important?" turns out it was a respiratory monitor, nothing major. "I don't get it, it's plugged in!" This happened a second time, but with a machine that was one of those syringe squeezers delivering I believe platelets to the kid. Normal computer power cables in the backs of medical equipment apparently like to get loose and nobody could figure it out. Guess i'm glad I was there.

Dunno-Lars posted:Good luck, and please remember to take care of eachother as well. Mommy and daddy are very important as well. Indeed. We're EXTREMELY fortunate to have a lot of support systems around us. Summer's 2 hours away from us, but thankfully my wife's brother, 2 of her best friends, and 1 of my best friends all live up there. So I'll be holding down the fort at home with the 2 dogs. We just have to tread lightly on the amount of care Mommy and Daddy do for eachother. Her cousin set up a gofundme that was overwhelmingly successful for us, but in the wake of that I just freak out and hate to like, go out to eat. Ya know? wtf what if someone who gave us money sees us living like rockstars here at dinner at... Olive Garden. Nerdrock fucked around with this message at 20:24 on Jun 5, 2018 |

When people that drive way shittier vehicles than you are throwing you money it bums you out. No Aunt Susan you drive a rusted 1991 Mercury Sable fuckin take that money back do something nice for yourself I literally have 3 motorcycles maybe I'll sell one. Oh no I might have to wait a year or two to get my 1125r back on the road, it's ok really. Anyways sorry for the e/n. I'm getting super pissed at work right now. We're trying to upgrade our couple of thousand macs over the summer, and I did a lot of testing and with only minimal tweaks, everything will be great! right? Can do an inline upgrade rather than reimage everything in the district and it'll take WAAAAAYYY less time. Let the installer trickle out over the last few weeks of school, and all we have to do is boot each system and fire off a script to start the update. Except : apparently upgrading from 10.11 to 10.13 MAGICALLY NUKES NOT ONLY YOUR LOCAL ADMIN ACCOUNT, but also JUST STRIPS ANY ADMIN RIGHTS YOU'D GIVEN TO (domain) GROUPS. Guess i'll go annoy the wizards in the macadmins slack this week. better news though we're dropping support for classroom printers, rolling out a shitload of very big tree killers, and are going to roll out Papercut to manage it. Demos and testing on that have gone great so far (but that's always the case until school starts)

When you are worried you are loving up just look at all the idiots you know that have raised kids and know that you are going to do better than them. It sounds dumb but all I do is look at my cousins and know that at least I’m not worried my wife is drunk and breastfeeding.

The best parenting advice I ever got was to trade off nights on duty with your partner. My first kid barely slept at night for months, but having a guaranteed night's sleep every other night was magical.

Good luck with the baby, nerdrock! Sounds like you have a rocky ( ) period ahead. I can only relate a tiny bit since my daughter didn't breathe for 30 minutes after birth, but those 30 minutes were the longest of my entire life. Content: our 1.5 sysadmin (one is basically both dev and sysadmin, the other full-time sysadmin) are massively overwhelmed, do you guys have any tips on tasks I could help them with? I'm a dev but massively interested in infosec, system adminstration sounds very interesting but also very technical in places.
