So I ended up just binging the whole thing. I really liked it, but also drat. That didn't go exactly how I was expecting.

The animation was a bit wonky at times. Might be a stylistic choice, but I didn't really care for it much. The rest was on point though! I loved how they adapted the story to fit a modern setting and I feel that all the changes they made, were for the better. Those last few episodes had some drat powerful moments.

Personally I thought it was an awful edgy pointless rushed mess Devil Lady was a much better show in comparison(which is saying something cause that show was pretty mediocre)

yeah besides not finishing the story the 2 80s ovas were, so far as i've gotten in this, better adaptions and devilman has been done a ton. i would rather get a devilman lady adaption since the manga of that while way worse than devilman, still continues the story and hasn't gotten a remotely accurate adaption. you could easily fit devilman lady into a 1, maybe 2 cour anime by cutting out most of the villain of the week stories

I wish they would cut out the engrish. It made the ending of episode 8, which should have weight to it, seem hilarious. But man there were a lot of hosed up scenes in episode 8, some that will haunt me.

Oh my God this show is untentionally hilarious with it's drastic tonal shifts. One moment he has to kill a demonic turtle who absorbed his mom and dad who... was honestly a little bit more scary in the old OVA And then suddenly he wet dreams so hard that he jizzed right into the goddamn ceiling. Now I'm at a point where the man is literally motorboating a demon lady.

I had a lot of fun with it but wouldn't rate it higher than the manga and it doesn't really rank with other Yuasa stuff for me either. First half was really drat fun though idk. e: ^

The traumatic death of his parents disconnects Akira from humanity, and he devolves into the ravening murderfuckbeast he believes demons to be, culminating in his fight/sex scene with Sirene. Then she and her sidekick show him that nobility and self-sacrifice can exist even within demons, giving the kick in the rear end he needs to return to being more than the sum of his instincts.

Having not read the original manga I was unprepared for how loving dark it was going to get. Episode 8 was horrific but then it got even worse! And then even worse than even worse! Satan is a dick, God is a dick, Akira is good except he died and couldn't save humanity. Dang. Berserk was definitely inspired by Devilman but I hope Berserk doesn't end like this.
