I loved the poo poo out of this and I want more Devilman which is seems is readily available on YouTube. My fiancé was also sort of watching this at the beginning while she was cross stitching, and then building a piece of furniture the next day and by the time the Taro scene happened she was sitting next to me watching.

I'm not much in to anime. Like my watch list has been just jojo, and a few random ovas here and there. But did watch this. Because it looked so drat interesting.

That was quite the ride. Those last three episode, holy poo poo :suspense:

So, is it in the manga the thing with Taro? How did he became a demon? Also demon kitty was so cute :3:

Nope - in the manga, Miki’s family die with her and the delinquents in the house siege. Taro presumably became a demon for the simple reason that lots of people were becoming demons as the invasion kicked off, as a deliberate terror tactic.

But most of all, you cheated BABA

I read Devilman volumes 2-5 yesterday and spent the rest of the day in existential despair. And yet - there's all of the groundwork for Shin Megami Tensei (especially 1+2) right there. It was wild to see how - blatant it was? Like, the threat of nuking Japan, literally everything about the opening sections of SMT 1 - wow. I'd say SMT ripped it off except that it took the threat of demons and took it in a wildly different and ultimately optimistic way that doesn't end with everyone dead, forever.

Just most people. :v:

So of course, like a smart person, I just watched Devilman Crybaby episode 1 and holy. That was wonderful and twice as weird and there's no way in hell it could've aired anywhere but netflix.

Not a fan of some of the changes, but the core story is there and I can't wait to watch more... later. I can't stomach volumes 2-5 again so soon. Calling Miko a witch is the worst thing the show is doing by way of foreshadowing.

Having read the original manga back in 2014, I can safely say this is an excellent adaptation of Devilman. Does a great job modernizing the series and providing it with that extra bit of heart

Kinda wish they did a better job with Jinmen though, and I wish some of the visually darker scenes were brighter so I could understand what I'm even looking at

I’m actually quite surprised people are so down on this version of Jinmen. Having his parents get munched feels much more naturally personal than it happening to a random little girl who has suddenly always been his best friend, and bringing in his dad’s rebellion and Ryo egging him on was the start of an organic process that led to him going against Ryo and starting to recruit Devilmen, sowing the seeds for the finale much more naturally than the original manga did (where it was literally just ‘welp, Ryo’s betrayed me, there are probably other people like me out there, Imma recruit ‘em in a few pages and start a war’).

All the changes they made only made it more part of the story, rather than a grim little aside that signposted the changing tone.

It was a little weird because up to that point I didn't really have a feel for who his parents were so I didn't have much reason to care, but the freakiest stuff to me in the show was when people would just brutalize their loved ones like when Taro munches on his mom so it was still pretty effective.

Honestly, this show had me so drat shook the night I watched it. I hadn't done any research and was anticipating some Kamen Rider poo poo or something. I'm glad I watched it though. After having some time to contemplate it, I think it' sreally good.

I do agree with this; I guess you can read and watch some of the remaining Amon stuff, but Violence Jack is despair and gore porn to the point that it is just comical than weighted (Devilman has always had this issue but it manages to hit the feels more often than not, this is not the case with Violence Jack).

Haha, a similar story happened with my wife: I usually wait to watch new season episode 1s with her, but I was so goddamn sure she would not only not want to watch Devilman Crybaby with me, but would actively ask that I watch it while she is not there.

So I watch the first 3 episodes myself and she walks in as I'm starting the 4th and after a verbal warning about the contents not only was she not just ignoring the episode per usual, but had actively stopped her computer activities to watch. I'm all ":stare: did- did you actually want to watch this?" "maybe."

Queue me replaying the first 3 episodes and us binge watching the rest in one sitting. Thanks for the most inexplicable impromptu anime date night, Devilman Crybaby

It wouldn’t feel right if we had delinquents acting like they came straight out of the 70s. I feel like rappers are the people who speak what’s on their minds today. Having professionals really gives it that impact, and it’s nice that they stand out in the street passionately explaining what’s happening (laughs).

Devilman Lady is half rape and half making the end of the original manga worse so you're not really missing out on much.

The anime is slightly more interesting but has terrible animation and a non-ending.

To kind of describe what happens, It turns out that God got so mad at Satan at the end of the original that he decided to put everything in a time loop to make him suffer. He somehow splits himself into two people, one being the main character of Lady, and the other the Ryo analogue (who is her... cousin I think?) to get off God’s radar. So the events of Lady happen, Lady goes to hell for a bit and it turns out Akira is down there too along with most of the slain demons from the original. Akira fucks Lady for reasons, goes back to Earth, and the rest of Lady happens.

Cousin Ryo screws Lady but realizes she can’t fully satisfy Lady without the male equipment. poo poo happens, Cousin kinda regains her memories as Satan, and screws Lady again with her full package this time. If the show, this was rape. In the manga, this was a way to impregnate Lady, have her give birth to a full grown baby in an hour, and said baby grows to a grown rear end man in another hour (who is Akira; this was one long dumb way to get Akira back in the real world). Lady and Cousin fuse so that Satan is complete. All the demons come back from hell and likely possess humans in mass.

All of this was done so that Satan can be like “see Akira, God really does suck!” Akira is like “yeah he kind of does” and he and his army of good devilmen join forces with Satan and his army of demons to likely get bitch slapped by God into another loop.

We haven’t gotten anything technically set past Lady yet.

Yeah, the way he's cognizant of the absolutely terrible painful experience and yet he can't stop noshing is truly terrifying. I think that moment hit me harder than anything else in the show.
