I mean I'd be down with CR picking up the slack but there are just too many series, especially smaller/niche ones, that no one in their right mind would ever want to pay money to license/translate.

Anime Scanlators are ftw but all will eventually be pushed out by corporations, and left with nothing to show for their work. A terrible fate.

Maybe there'll be a second skilled web developer and sysadmin out there willing to sacrifice their life so that there can be a quality upload site for kissmanga to scrape, you never know.

We could formalize it. Make it into a ritual. ONE VIRGIN MUST BE SACRIFICED TO THE MANGA GOD

The next project won't be run by me, but I probably will still pop in and talk about it. Not sure if there is a Bird Cafe thread but either way I like engaging with the community.

We do still have an IRC channel which we use for releases too.

They added a new volume of it a month ago or such, strange if they just lost the license all of a sudden.
But Comico are weird. I read Momokuri raw on their website, except the last chapter. As soon as that released, the entire serialization went behind appwall, no more web reader for it?! Maybe even paywall, never checked.

this is incredibly dumb, western publishers are providing maybe 5% of the series that you're going to find on batoto, nevermind all the random one shots that get put up on those places

i say this as someone who's bought like $300 worth of manga in the last 4 months, and subs to CR

I think the immense popularity of some mangas' scanlations was probably a big factor in them later getting localized. It's also only recently that any of the actually readable homo stuff (with a few notable exceptions) is getting localized.

We will always have digital manga sites where we can pay for chapters. They tend to be $2 which is nice but I tend to frown on them once they end up being $10 as physical copies. I would pay for niche digital manga if companies picked it up vs struggling with the latest HxH release.
