Oceanomancers first detected the small island of blightust jutting out in the middle of No Man's Sea. The curious substance was a flour-like white. Upon contact, it was the most caustic substance known in existence: disintegrating anything and everything in its path. Strikingly, it reacted in a manner unlike any other, a process termed katacreasis, for the product of the reaction resulted in a net increase of blightust itself. Water was not immune to this process. Slowly but surely, the island grew. The affairs of human war and suffering siphoned attention from this inchoate apocalypse. Among the competing prophecies that predicted the world's end, it seemed unlikely that the world would last long enough for this meager white island to blanket the world in its sanitized desolation. Had blightust not rendered the world into eternal cessation however, worse apocalypses would have lain in wait. There's nothing left to see here. It's better this way. M.
